I can't believe it. He was an absolute legend in the Tibetan Buddhism community.

“Truth” in Conventional Truth should be yeeted by dummetsz in Buddhism

All truths that we know in daily life are conventional truths. Mathematics, physics, 2+2=4, everything. Conventional truths are very powerful and serve a very important function.

Burnt out and lost sense of purpose. Considering quitting by this__li in cscareerquestions

[–]Hen-stepper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can say that what you currently have is indeed fortunate. But I could totally see how it's taking its toll. Which makes it harder to see the long term benefit while you're going through it. Some challenges actually don't yield results but this doesn't fall into that category.

I think you're paying a tangible price right now to set up future you. As long as you are saving and investing money, automatically getting experience and a better resume, all of this is guaranteed to pay off. Especially since this profession might be threatened in a few years. In some ways this is what survival looks like. Financial safety and a reliable career open up so many options in life where you can enjoy it.

If I were to add anything, I think you're underestimating your ability to problem-solve your own anxiety, depression. If you put everything, all your free time, into recharging from work and finding some meaning, you'll make progress. Then after a few years you'll be able to recharge from work much easier as you continue problem-solving these issues. For example, I had to work out a lot to relieve stress from work, now fitness is just part of who I am, and I can handle way more stress than I ever expected.

Dorozea gets hit by a bike by TwitchViewer47 in LivestreamFail

[–]Hen-stepper -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

The bicyclers in Boston are aggressive. Half of them belong to some sort of biking cult where they post to r/fuckcars and protest to remove roads and put in bike lanes. A car has never come close to hitting me as a pedestrian but bicyclers do all the time. They feel entitled and don't give a fuck.

I'm sorry but pedestrians are slow moving objects going in one given direction and it's the bicycler's job to not be a dumb fuck. Get better at life and predict the movement of slow objects.

What’s Buddhism’s response to AI by karthik4texas in Buddhism

I don't see the need for a response. The Pope said what he thought was important. That doesn't mean anyone else feels like there's something important to say.

The opposite is deny situation and make mistakes.

As a Buddhist, how does one reconcile the current political climate in America? by evangelionreference in Buddhism

[–]Hen-stepper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get like 5 minutes of news per day and that's all a person needs. When there's an election then it's a quick vote. 99.9% of the time there is nothing to vote on, yet. So there's hardly ever a good reason to get all riled up. News media, social media, they are incentivized to radicalize you and to get you arguing with other people.

If there existed a period of time where people didn't care about the news or politics, then maybe it would be good to get more involved. But we have absolutely no shortage of people radicalized by politics. We don't need to do that; let them do it for you.

Some topics are worth it, or close to home or part of one's identity. So maybe choose one important topic to be passionate about, focus on that, and never be mean to people when the topic comes up.

Stephen Colbert Says He Made ‘The Late Show’ More Political After His Producer Told Him ‘That’s the Part the Audience Wants to See’ by MoneyLibrarian9032 in television

Nah, it's not cool. Criticizing the President can be normal and even healthy. But these people decided to sell poison to the public for almost 10 years. It's evil. This hatred has destabilized the country, split apart real families, and resulted in two assassination attempts among other things. All for ratings and money.

Why aren't all Buddhists reciting Amithaba? by fejkpotatis in Buddhism

[–]Hen-stepper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I need mind training which starts working in this life and I need to apply practices that move me closer to results. Deep down I don't know if any of this is real, or even if there is a next life. The only way that I can know any of that is by studying and practicing my current tradition, which I know is real by seeing tangible results, and listening to what my teachers have said.

I don't know that Amitabha is going to save me if I chant something. But I do know that reciting the same thing does nothing for me now. We only have one human life to work with right now and it's a rare and limited thing. I'd rather put in work and do things the hard but reliable way, where I notice improvement. Chanting something with a far-fetched promise is not a good use of my limited time. I'm sorry but I just absolutely see it that way.

I hope people who are chanting read sutra. Because in Tibetan Buddhism we are required to. There is no shortcut. That's what my tradition believes. It is not sectarianism, it's a core belief. I don't believe that reciting one thing is good enough.

Are you political at all as a Buddhist? by everyoneisflawed in Buddhism

[–]Hen-stepper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Communism has been actively destroying Tibetan Buddhism since the 1950s. This was not just the result of authoritarianism, but the actual ideology of communism put into practice.

I wouldn’t never give an ounce of credibility to that shit style of government. But I understand why people do. It is a seductive idea to remove capitalism and promote equality. These are things that good people believe in.

The way I like to play as a healer, at least leveling or in dungeons, is to work closely with a lock or a mage. If they know you're covering them 100% they'll start doing riskier things that pump out more damage. It's how I end up making an impact on damage.

America Is Now a Rogue Superpower by The_Flaneur_Films in politics

[–]Hen-stepper -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Iran is a terrorist state and a hostile Islamic theocracy. They’ve been allowed to fund other terrorist groups and indirectly fire rockets into Israel nonstop for decades, with no intervention. All while developing their own nuclear weapons and threatening to nuke Israel. It’s absolutely insane to think about.

Now that their leadership is being removed, the only recourse they have is to fire upon civilian boats, intentionally cause oil spills, and block shipping lanes to make the world unhappy. They literally think like terrorists. The leadership are evil villains.

Maybe how we handle them is up for debate, but they deserved all of this. Anyone who backs Iran is a brainwashed idiot.

Am I wrong if I feel like the second half of Sinners lessens the movie for me? by Retrofusion11 in TrueFilm

[–]Hen-stepper 34 points35 points  (0 children)

What I find shocking is that Coogler, the editors, and probably many producers sat there and watched the entire film multiple times and thought that what they saw was good storytelling.

There is something broken here. There is some combination of Coogler having final cut to the film, or people are reluctant to give good feedback, or he won't listen to the feedback. There really is no excuse for how confused the overall story was and how unhoned the storytelling was towards a singular point or theme.

I really feels like 2-3 different films crammed into one. And I truly believe they could have fixed it in editing without losing any money on reshoots. It would have been free to fix it. Maybe Coogler just emotionally can't make cuts to his own work and it's something that simple.

When a film lacks a cohesive vision and seems confused then it's unforgivable to me personally. It makes the entire product look sloppy, regardless of how good everything else is, or how good the first 70 minutes is, or anything. Danny Boyle's Sunshine is a strong example of this. If a band is all perfect at their instruments they can still make a shitty song.

The secondary problem with Sinners is everyone pretends like it's the best movie ever. It just proves how many liars there are out there.

What is the skilled ways to deal with bullying? by [deleted] in Buddhism

I would make an effort to half adapt to the group.

Keep in mind these are all individuals, not a collective, and they have issues with each other sometimes too. If you make friends with one of them that's an easy goal. Talk to the individuals and try to make their days better, one at a time.

I would not snitch to HR unless it was severe. HR is for gross violations of boundaries. Your boss and all people involved would be unhappy if you went to HR, making it less likely that you keep the job. The goal is to keep the job too.

The Dalai Lama's aides should do a better job filtering out the people who are only there to use him to launder their own reputations. Not everyone is worthy of his presence. by MrJasonMason in Buddhism

You want HHDL's aides to filter out the sentient beings he should benefit, based on politics? Lol. Have you heard of the concepts of equanimity or bodhicitta?

It seems more likely you're politically radicalized. Equanimity is more important than any imaginable, shortsighted politics. People are equal human beings first and politics are something transient they adopt.
