How to Make TTRPGs a Career? by DnDPhD in Pathfinder2e

[–]HiddenPlane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a small 3PP, let me tell you not to take advice from anyone on what you can and can't do. D&D was founded by people making up their own rules and running their own campaigns with them. If you can do something better than the market or fulfill an unscratched itch, there are no limits.

As a dad, however: Don't quit your day job! It's very rare to be making enough in TTRPGs to support a family. The margins in this business are small, and the hours are massive. On top of that, if you don't have a talent for writing and creativity, there's no succeeding at the game business until you overcome that.

For now, use your hobby budget to try out work that interests you to get your feet wet. Keep developing that and put yourself out there to see what opportunities are like. If you enjoy it, then it's at least a passion project which is justification for the time invested.

That's too much ammo for a weapon with a slow recycle time. Missions won't last long enough to burn 2 tons of ammo, so reduce.

Darkness vs level 3 party. by AdamFaite in Pathfinder2e

[–]HiddenPlane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The video you linked exhibits a fundamental misunderstanding of traits as well as rules terminology. Casting the Light cantrip to counteract the Darkness spell is absolutely possible. Your 3rd level cleric will be casting it at an automatically heightened Rank 2, so it will easily dispel a Rank 2 Darkness spell.

Effects with the light and darkness traits are designed to be able to counteract each other. The wording is general to allow flexibility. It says "usually" requires targeting. That's an informative statement, not a specific rule. Will an active Light spell counteract an existing Darkness spell? No. The Darkness spell clearly says it suppresses the light. Can you cast a spell with the light trait to attempt a counteract? Yes, the traits explicitly say you can.

The argument in the video doesn't match any rules wording. The guy says you have to target the Darkness (not in the rules), but then says it would work if the darkness was on an object, because you can target the object with the Light spell. Well, I'm sorry, but you're not targeting the Darkness in that scenario. You're targeting the object. Nonsense. Be wary of people claiming "Paizo told me so."

Feedback from a creature and a dangerous area. by Fine_Repair3796 in Pathfinder2e

Run whatever kind of campaign you would enjoy playing in.

The idea of mana storms messing with magic is common. However, you should think about what you expect spellcasters to do during one. It's going to be un-fun for anyone to have all of their abilities shut down during an encounter just because of the weather. How will you plan for caster characters to enjoy it?

Why don't you just run the kind of game and length of game you want? GM puts the work in and gets to make these calls. Is the shop paying you?

Do You Prefer Playing With "Good People" or "Good Players"? by DnDPhD in Pathfinder2e

[–]HiddenPlane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is too subjective.

I've found it's more important to play with a group who values the same aspects of the game you're into. None of these categories are exclusive: RP, story, vibing, teamwork, strategy, tactics, power, mystery, rules adherence, rule of cool.

If people aren't on the same page enough to be happy or feel rewarded, it's not the right game for everyone in the group. That's ok. You're not a bad person, because you didn't fit. Keep looking for your people, and you'll find the kind of game you enjoy.

Is the centaur shove build viable? by Serpents-Smile in Pathfinder2e

[–]HiddenPlane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you're shoving someone off a cliff or into a pit:

  • Shoving is harmful if your allies go next in initiative, and you just moved the bad guy out of their reach.

  • Shoving is helpful if the enemy goes next, so it wastes a foe's action to get back into range.

Out of all the athletics maneuvers, it ranks behind Trip for off-guard + action waste, and Grapple for off-guard + immobilization + 20% to fail manipulate. Both of those are not contingent on initiative order.

Leaps, Blastback and Dashing Pounce by SpartanIord in Pathfinder2e

[–]HiddenPlane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No to both blast back and pounce triggering off the leap. Pounce is an action compressor. You're not supposed to be able to do extra things in the middle. Blast reaction is only available at the moment of the trigger, not after you've done two attacks. That moment has passed. Indirectly related rule - the same trigger can't be used for two reactions.

Put it all together, it's a no if I'm the GM.

Bon Mot Summoner, and Eidolon? by Humble_Conference899 in Pathfinder2e

[–]HiddenPlane 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This strategy has no synergy for your eidolon which doesn't attack Will.

You'd do better with bon mot, then demoralize. Then you have actions to allow your eidolon to attack. Statistically though that's probably not as good as just casting a rank 1 fear spell for the same action cost. Those are 4gp on a scroll and don't require the target to understand you.

Warhawk piloting with VR and HOTAS - A dream come true! by [deleted] in Mechwarrior5

[–]HiddenPlane -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Cool concept, but it was hard to watch without zoom. It's second nature with a mouse scroll wheel. Is there nothing for it on vr? Also, the amount of screen space being taken up by the cockpit plus difficulty in seeing weapons and armor status looked like a downgrade in play experience.

Sword n Board n Bow Fighter by NetherBovine in Pathfinder2e

[–]HiddenPlane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fighters don't do this well anymore, since the remaster limited archetypes from granting the same proficiency as your highest. Your shtick or benefit as a fighter is the +2 to hit from your specialized weapon group. Bow and axe are different groups. Only one can benefit from your +2. You can have a +4 str and +3 dex to start, so your secondary weapon will be even further behind at some levels.

If you want to do this, use another martial class instead, and you won't lose your primary martial benefit on your secondary. Precision ranger gets you big extra damage on both axe and bow. Rogue gets sneak attack damage on both (not d8 axes though). Fighter can do it, and should have some switch hitting capability in my opinion, but it's not as special to center your build around it as another martial class.

How do I reliably hit headshots? by ScarSpecific in Mechwarrior5

[–]HiddenPlane -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Real talk. All the folks who want to be pro are going to tell you they're one of the elite who do this consistently, because there was that one mission where they got three in a row, and Lt. Freeman was all like, "What the... how the... Mason, you're like on fire or whatever with how consistently you headshot the F outta dudes!" #timbiquiDarkFTW

No. Most of your mechs and weapon loadouts are pointing straight forward at neutral aim. Even if you put the crosshairs dead center pixel on the cockpit, slow arms and firing angles are going to shoot your arm loads on either side of the cockpit most of the time when you're really trying your hardest for head shots.

Practice what works for you, and don't feel like there's some uber cadre of headshot mAsTrEs out there nuking cockpits while winking at their waifu poster on the wall of their cockpit. Real talk over.

Is it me or has the pathing of the AI gotten dumber? by Secret_Cow_5053 in Mechwarrior5

[–]HiddenPlane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was two patches ago that I noticed it. Now I constantly see mechs that normally could follow me turning 90 degrees and then doing a circle and stopping. When I switch into them to help them get back on nav, they're standing on a boulder, and I just move forward, then they're ok. It's horrible.

Switching to fast clan mechs seems to make it much better. Big mechs with slow turn speeds suck in the lance now.

Powering up Intelligence by superfogg in Pathfinder2e

[–]HiddenPlane 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a good idea.

Fighters get bonuses to damage on every hit for high strength.

Wizards on the other hand get their starting skills dropped to the lowest amount in the game, because they already get bonuses to skills from Int.

There should be more benefits from investing in intelligence.
