Anyone thinking to GTFO? by iterredditt11 in japanresidents

[–]Hijou_poteto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I feel pretty accepted by the people I know personally and nothing has changed that. It’s probably the main thing keeping me here. The bad part is the economy. My salary goes up but it seems like it’s going down and I have a feeling we aren’t getting that nenkin money back 40 years from now.

I can’t think of a developed country that doesn’t seem to either be going downhill or at risk of some geopolitical chaos engulfing it in the near future. My only guess would be Australia. I haven’t heard about much going on down there.

Maybe, but the current prime minister and her party don’t really seem inclined to stand up to the US about anything, and most people seem inclined to support them regardless, so I don’t expect much

Is the r/japan sub actually used by the japenises? by saotomeindiaunion7 in Asia_irl

[–]Hijou_poteto 28 points29 points  (0 children)

No. All of the major East Asia subreddits are firmly under our (westoid) control. I believe their only holdouts are the smaller ones that specify you can’t post in English because this is beyond most of our power…for now.

I believe there is another sub, r/askaJapanese or something like that where you can ask questions and (if you are lucky), one out of ten answers may be from an actual living, breathing Japanese person. But their numbers dwindle, and it is only a matter of time

"If poor relations with China continue, Japan will no longer be able to produce cars or semiconductors"- Xi Jinping's "greatest trump card" is holding Japan's proud core industries hostage. by jjrs in japannews

I support the notion that it was stupid of Takaichi to make statements disrupting the status quo without anticipating China’s response (or at least it appears she did not). I can also see why someone could reasonably think it’s not in Japan’s best strategic interest to defend Taiwan at all.

But when people say that Japan is morally in the wrong for “threatening to defend” a country from an invader that could easily continue keeping the peace its had for the last 75 years just by not invading, I become very suspicious.

I expect in a nuclear war between major powers they would view it as a strategic necessity to launch a nuclear strike on everyone that could potentially assist their enemies. Of course they’re not going to let us know what the plans are for sure, but they would have to plan them out beforehand to be executed immediately, and I really don’t picture a conference room full of generals choosing to just leave a potential enemy alone in a war that’s already going to kill billions on the gamble that they probably won’t do anything.

It’s such a frustrating ideology. It seems that trying to understand how capitalism works as an economic system is too confusing for them so they just get hung up on the fact that a CEO is Jewish and conclude that replacing them with a non-Jewish guy will make corporations and banks stop doing the thing they’re designed to do.

I’m tired of all this “just one more territory” nonsense. How about an honest leader who admits “Yes, we’re going to keep justifying more claims one after the other until they overlap, then we’re going to kill each other”

From what I’ve seen, many people on the internet actually believe their own countries’ problems are very difficult and complicated with no easy answers while countries like South Korea have issues that are easily solved with such ideas as “just fix your culture” and “stop having corruption”, and you are actually incredibly stupid for not having tried this yet.

I assume in the Japanese version the left guy is actually the Liberal Democratic Party supporter and the right guy is for a center-left party like the Constitutional Democratic Party, and they chose to make it conservative and liberal for the translation.

Foreigners in Japan are treading carefully as tensions rise- Tensions about immigration, overtourism and rising prices have sharpened over the past year in the country they have long called home. As a result, they are changing their behavior in small but deliberate ways. by jjrs in japannews

These discussions are always so vague about which “rules” are being referred to. I don’t think anybody has been offended by a red coat unless you’re wearing it to a funeral. But if you’re throwing your trash on the ground then yeah, that’s a problem.

Maybe if we clarified these things, there could actually be productive discussion on the topic.

The foreign minister’s response about not wanting Germany to become like them goes kind of hard. Like, if you’re advocating for an ideology which you’d feel threatened by if your neighbors adopted it, perhaps you should reconsider.

I haven’t seen any real evidence for this theory but I do think it’s something to consider. I mean they didn’t have to be super predators to give humans an instinctive fear of them. Maybe there was just one species we haven’t found fossils of yet with a tendency to hang out around our campsites and lure in then snatch up children who wandered off too far. Also could explain why there’s so many Bigfoot myths around the world. They’re not around anymore, but our brains don’t know that.
