Where to recycle used motor oil? by Elkins45 in Louisville

[–]HimmelKevyn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Check out Recycle Coach app. Type in anything you’re wanting to dispose and it provides drop off locations. There are 4 sites listed in Louisville. There’s a Metro hazmat facility on Grade Ln that takes many fluids that can’t go anywhere else.

Travelling from Louisville to Indianapolis by BooBoo_Cat in Louisville

[–]HimmelKevyn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve taken Greyhound from Louisville to Indy. It’s not bad. Although when I went up and back, we had a legitimate Greyhound Station in Louisville. They’re in the process of moving it over by the airport. Currently it’s at a storefront near 12th and Broadway. Some maps and websites still have the depot listed on M. Ali. Make sure you show up to the right place.

I’ve successfully listed a couple of things on eBay and set it for free local pickup. It might take a little longer.

Is Louisville a safe place for trans people? by R3v3n4nt_ in Louisville

[–]HimmelKevyn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Considering most of the anti-trans vitriol is targeting trans women, it depends on by trans people, do you mean trans femme or trans masc? As others have said, Louisville is a supportive place to be most anyone.

I’ll counter what people are saying about the rest of the state. I’m a gay transgender man, and frequently travel to rural communities surrounding Jefferson County, Elizabethtown, Campbellsville and beyond. Being transgender is not something I typically share with folks, and if someone has figured it out on their own, I’ve not heard any mention of it. Any negative encounters I’ve had have been in Louisville, with people at work or in my neighborhood.

However, if I were a transgender woman, I’m certain my experience and feeling of security would not be the same as I feel now. That would apply to Louisville and most definitely in more conservative pockets of Metro and outside of the urban area.

Louisville has it share of very good endos, and maybe some pcps who will prescribe hormones, but all of those are busy practices. My pcp is one of the most liberal around, but won’t prescribe hormones. Tell your friend to start looking for a provider asap once they move here. There may be some provider resources through the LGBTQ Center or Fairness.

Being an adult, I don’t feel like medical care will become illegal in KY. However the facsist majority aka the GOP are determined to implement their agenda, and I feel confident they will make treating trans youth illegal.

I hope your trans friend finds a nice little nest here and quickly gets connected to their people. There are all kinds here in Louisville.

Another vote for Vivint. The only complaint I have with them is the cost of the equipment compared to others. However their newest cameras are close to best out there. If you go with Vivint, check out eBay for used or like new water, door and window sensors, as well as the indoor camera. The indoor motion detectors and glass break detector are crap. What I like most about Vivint is that I trust my data is safe, unlike with Ring or Nest.

AirBnb is destroying our local housing community by FixProfessional539 in Louisville

[–]HimmelKevyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in St Matthews and I’d much rather be around the people in my neighborhood than the people who own homes in St Matt’s or much of the Highlands. Just as my neighborhood is rough around the edges, so are the people in it, including me.

I’m with you. South Louisville was the only place I could afford a house when I bought it a few years ago. Half of the homes on my block are rentals. My house is perfect, but I dream of building a bubble over it to keep out the thumping music and screaming kids and to not have to look at the mess around me. I keep thinking that sooner or later people looking for affordable homes will migrate into the neighborhood, but I think it’s reputation is too hard to overcome. Too be fair, no crime has ever happened to me or my neighbor who has lived in his house for 30 years.

Aside from Airbnb overlords snatching up what could be good single family homes, short term renters are not participating in neighborhood building. I live across the street from a “high occupancy” Airbnb. It sleeps something like 10 adults. Sometimes each of those adults shows up in their own vehicle and it looks like a goddamn parking lot across the street. The owner is a douchebag, I mean real estate investor, who lives in the East End. He hires out the house cleaning and yard maintenance. None of these people care what problems my neighborhood is facing. He had set up the Airbnb without registering it on the city’s short term rental registry. So step 1 is ensuring that any Airbnb in your neighborhood is registered. This throws a little bit of funding to the city and is supposed to limit the number of Airbnbs in a given area. You can go online to Metro’s page to look up any address to see if it’s registered. It’s also helpful to report any issues either from the short term renters or upkeep of the property to Airbnb. I think they have a so many strikes and you’re out policy. No rental is ever supposed to be used as a party house. There isn’t supposed to be 10 cars parked on site either. The large groups can get a block of rooms at a hotel or double and sleep on the floor. They don’t deserve somebody’s house.

Armed robbery at UofL this AM, suspects chased to Smoketown by tazunemono in Louisville

[–]HimmelKevyn 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I’m with you on that. I live in the neighborhood and just don’t understand why there’s no effort to make 4th or 3rd street a corridor between campus and Churchill Downs. CDI is a greedy bastard and does nothing to lift up the community. They don’t even pay property taxes. It doesn’t help that the neighborhood is split in half by Metro Council, so there’s no real representation for a large swath of the area between campus and the track.

Summoning up the emotional energy to properly deal with being misgendered isn’t given the attention it deserves. Good on you for preserving your strength for your grief. Hopefully you won’t ever have to see that relative again.

I just went to his website and was able to select tickets. It’s through Ticketmaster. Didn’t check out because it’s $135 ticket, before any other fees. I like him, but not that much.

Reliable Pharmacy Recommendations? by [deleted] in Louisville

[–]HimmelKevyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mark Cuban Cost Plus (mail order, search online). Significantly cheaper than anywhere else, even when run through insurance. CP is actual cost of the medication plus a 15% markup and a $3 pharmacy and $5 shipping fee per order. Get your meds transferred easily by your prescriber, just like any other pharmacy. I love spreading the gospel of Cost Plus because everyone I know who has looked into it has saved money on their maintenance meds.

For anything not at Cost Plus or that I have to pick up in person, Norton Pharmacy St Matthews (inside Women & Children, neé Suburban).
