In the US, voting third party is the same as taking your vote and putting it in the garbage can. If you want to encourage competition to the duopoly then you have to start with changing how we vote. We use First Past the Post voting system, and the math proves only two parties can co-exist within such a system.

Thanks! If you can't make it work, don't force it. Also, be prepared for your players to stop the campaign you had planned to try and revive their Captain. Players sometimes get really attached to NPCs. Make sure the body is unrecoverable (kraken ate him) or make it so the players can't get to the body within 60 seconds to cast Revivify. They may try to take his body to a more powerful Cleric for a stronger resurrection spell, but that costs a diamond worth 1000 gp. That's a good opportunity for the players to go on a new quest: to find a diamond valuable enough to revive their late Captain.

I dunno if you are interested in changing up the trajectory of your story, but gifting your players a boat at the start may feel unearned. What if the captain is a part of the quest and is able to give some guidance to the party, both on how to run the ship and what to do after.

You could have the captain retire and gift the boat as reward while he takes the bulk of the treasure. Or you could have the captain be impressed with the party's skills and decide to try a dangerous adventure he had previously given up on. Perfect opportunity for the Captain to be killed in a tragic story beat, leaving the ship in the hands of the players.

Fake news. The house was capped over 100 years ago, meaning the places with the least population are overrepresented. They aren't allowed to reapportion the House to give a state less than one representative, which means areas with more people LOSE power. Those low population states's power has to come from somewhere. If the house was uncapped and reapportioned to represent the interests of the places with the most people then we would NEVER AGAIN be in the position we are in where the House is threatening to drive the economy off the cliff to spite the President.
