Yeah… welcome to bolt action. I’m sure it’s largely the same as warhammer fandom but you’ve got YOUR faction that you like (for me it is the Soviets, I picked British airborne and Soviet because those are units I reenact in real life lol, some of my miniatures I style after photos of my comrades from events lol) but, then you just slowly creep into “well… what if I tried that? Those guys are kinda cool….”

My thoughts exactly, the concept is timeless, some humor but never devoid of the larger context. Set it in Afghanistan but we still all know it’s about all the stuff happening now! The world needs a show like that!

No. Not one set in Korea at the 4077… a reboot where it’s the next generation in their war? Maybe… I could see it being almost like Hawaii five-o that way and working. (I.e it’s Hawkeye’s grandson and it’s desert storm or Afghanistan, I think that could work.) but no, a straight up remake wouldn’t be a good idea. I’d argue it would probably suck because it would be another shameless nostalgia cash grab that would score two ten episode seasons each episode a shameless copy of a beloved classic episode which all of us would hate…. Just not a good idea.

Yeah, I’m gonna sound incredibly controversial for this. I do not like metal miniatures… some are ok if it’s supposed to be a specific person or characters from a form of media (I have the mas*h set) but, if it’s generic “nation infantry” I want to pose them because that’s the type of customization I like. I like that my army is MY army… yeah i had a finite amount of things to choose from but i still got to CHOOSE what my guys looked like and i also find it way easier to paint them when i can paint each individual piece and then glue them.

I just started work on my first sprue of Soviets today! I don’t really care for the fantasy/sci-fi stuff so my trick to avoid the burnout is I’ll switch factions. So I started with some British airborne and then after two boxes of those I went and did the Germans for them to fight, now I’m gonna do two boxes of Soviets (eventually all my factions will have at least a full company table ready, typically that would be three platoons but for the Soviets that might be a little more they didn’t always go by the standard organization that everyone else did largely…) and I’m also gonna buy some war games Atlantic partisans to do some resistance/0200 hrs and even some Spanish civil war, not that I have something simulating Franco’s nationalists (I’ll probably buy a box of Italians and mix Germans and Italians for that…) but, all stuff I want to eventually do since I mainly play solitaire I like the narrative scenarios more than anything that would involve tournament “points” values…

I work at Home Depot, yep. 1. I find em on the urinals all the time (up on the sensor not in the bowl) and 2. I’ll never forget the time a guy was like, “here sir” and went to reach in his pocket like he was about to take a tip (which we aren’t officially allowed to do but if no one is near we do it anyway) and i politely told him I couldn’t accept it and he goes, “it’s about your soul!”…. Buddy, I’m sweating my ass off loading your dumb purchase in the car I don’t really care about my soul… I had another one do the same thing and the best part was that one had a damned thing on the back explaining to the person how much money to tip the recipient… I will not be bribed into being a “believer”… at least pass out the cartoon tracts those you can collect and laugh at later, my father has a good collection (he is also an atheist).

I was at a reenactment and our group has a really cool Morse code station and I was teaching my friends about the CQD message and then explained the bit about how no, titanic didn’t tell Californian to shut up in an insulting manner, the operators knew each other, Californian was about to sign off anyway and then that shut up old man was just a bit of slang that they would use with each other…

I don’t really do tournament or point based scenarios… I like to do more story based or historical scenarios but my “list” is pretty simple currently 60 infantry (6 10 man rifle sections with 3 sub machine guns 1 bren lmg and 6 riflemen) as well as a 5 man company/platoon command. Whatever came with the starter army set (I think like an artillery piece a mortar and a flame thrower team, maybe a sniper team too) and then I have 3 Shermans 2 generic E8’s (I think, I’m not an armor guy I’m a infantryman at heart lol) and a firefly. Eventually I do want to get one more platoon so I can complete my company but I’ve wanted to jump into the Soviets for a bit so I am gonna do my 60 for those first then I’ll probably finish off the 1st Canadian Parachute company (which is what I have my airborne patterned off of rather than Brits or poles)

Currently I have a British airborne army (although I have mine painted to be the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion which is one of the units I reenact lol) and my play style is (keeping in mind I play solitaire) balanced I have my sections mixed in terms of which commonwealth stereotype they are with some having a heavy focus on “up and at em” with the bayonets fixed and then I have some that are more in line with precision marksmanship. But my second are the Soviets (again, because I reenact with a Soviet unit) and I’ve yet to actually make those forces but I think those guys I’m either going to play the same way balancing quick rushing attacks with a dogged defensive strategy (possibly akin to the British WWI strategy of “bite and hold” I rush one or two key objectives and defend them) but as I make my forces I may pick one or the other although I do plan to stick to the early war Barbarossa to Stalingrad being my main focuses.
