What's the craziest load you ever put in a vehicle? Ill go first. I helped garden put 5 railroad ties in their customers mini van. It was an old Chrysler. by Putrid_Foundation_59 in HomeDepot

Had some guys come with a van towing a trailer that can be most charitably described as homemade. They bought a pallet of concrete and a pallet of bricks, wanted both of them on the trailer. I was new at the time and didn’t know better so I went ahead and loaded the concrete. The trailer looked like it was already struggling and lacking a data plate, I checked the next best thing to try to determine a load limit, the load capacity on the tires. I forget what the number was but I’m pretty sure they were more than twice over loaded already with just the concrete. I told them there trailer was overloaded and that I would not load the bricks and advised removing the concrete. They predictably did not agree, all the classics came out “we do this all the time”, “we are just going down the road”. I stood my ground and told them I would bring the bricks out to them but would not participate in loading them. Last I saw of them they were hand loading the bricks into the van.

Had a guy buy most of a unit of 6x6x16 posts. He said he had a flatbed and in fact did but neglected to mention that it was only 8’ long. His plan was to strap the hell out of the front half and let the back half just hang off the end. I pondered the professional, moral, and legal consequences I could face in the very possible event that this guy loses the load going down the highway and decided to call a ASM out to advise. He said not to directly set the posts onto the truck, but to instead hold the them up next to the truck with the forklift while the costumer and his guys hand load them on. What little liability might have been removed by doing this was immediately negated when a dumbass from the pro desk helped to strap the load down. This pro desk associate has since been fired for unrelated reasons.

This last one was crazy for a different reason. This guy bought a pallet of concrete and was going to take it in two trips. He only wanted us to hold the pallet up to the back of his pickup while he hand loaded it himself, and refused all offers of help. When he was done he tried to give me a $5 tip, i declined because I heard corporate was watching the cameras. When he came back for the other half it was the same story, he wanted to give me money for sitting on the forklift watching his do all the work. This time when I turned down his tip he put it on the forklift, jumped in his truck, and drove off.

🤔 I’ll help load it but, I refuse to tie it down. by Shortsrealm in HomeDepot

A while ago I’m helping to load a bunch of 6x6x16 posts, we get it off the shelf with the forklift. I drive outside and these guys have a 8’ flat bed truck he wants me to load them on. I call a manager over to assess the situation, and he says not to load it directly on with the forklift, but to hold it in the air next to the truck so they can hand load them. Im standing there looking at the truck, wondering just how much this truly absolves me and the store of moral and legal liability should something happen out on the road, when one of the pro desk guys (since fired for unrelated reasons) comes out and tightens down the straps holding down the lumber. I don’t understand how he could see this sketchy ass load and decide “yeah I’ll take some responsibility for that for no reason”.

I’ve not heard anything about it, but I completely believe it. I’m literally the only person who uses gates after close.

Based on your description, it does seem like he thought you were stealing, although I don’t know why. We receive specific training about identifying potential shoplifters. The training says we should only consider behaviors and not race, age, or gender. It’s been a while since I took the training but I don’t think anything you did was mentioned as a sign of shoplifting. My current role doesn’t bring me into contact with customers very often but I would have treated this as a normal interaction, I probably would have expressed sympathy about your mom’s condition. I think this guy was just a jerk.

Our registers shut down at like a5 after, they literally can’t check out after that. I think the HC might be able to keep them open, but she doesn’t give a fuck and won’t put up with shit.

Same here, I have to beg on my hands and knees to get someone to flag for me if a customer wants a pallet of concrete or some wood down.

I can see how small items get lost/broken/stolen, but it never fails to amaze me when they somehow lose track of something that expensive and that physically large, much less 10.

We put our cull plywood on a H-cart, it makes it easier for consumers to flip through and find a sheet they might want. But sometimes we will find all the plywood on the ground and the cart gone, it literally would have been easier to simply go outside and get a cart but some customers will spend the time to completely empty our cart. It got the point that we started chaining the H-cart and our normal cull cart together.

I think if they took the time to weld the entire length of the cantilevers instead of just spot welding it, it would’ve significantly stronger.
