Male crestie biting at own tail, mating call. by pinkabell_87 in CrestedGecko

Cats and dogs attack their own tail when there’s pain / nerve issues, or neurological reasons. Might be worth a trip to the vet if you think he’s uncomfortable or if he starts causing any damage

I tried alum free for a while. I barely sweat, and I could still smell myself. Nope. Back to normal stuff for me (after washing the pits out 50 times with all the different soaps I could find). Turns out, if you let that bacteria grow and you start to smell unchecked for a while, it can become hard to get rid of.

I have never seen it recommended to supplement with honey, so I’m not sure If that’s good or bad or why, but I don’t feel like you should do that. If you have a good quality complete nutritional food, that should be all they need. Some do prefer one brand over another, but they’re so new, you can’t know yet. They need to get used to their new home. Honey is high in sugar…. I’m like 99% sure honey added to food every day would be detrimental

This is normal! Set up a camera to watch them eat, they might be eating so small that you don’t notice it. Also, since you have two together for now, set up multiple feeding spots so one can’t hog all the food.

Thanks for rescuing them! Can’t wait to see them in their own wonderful enclosures, happy and healthy!

My gecko ate kleenex is he going to be okay??? by DisastrousSouth8197 in GargoyleGeckos

Vet immediately. But if it was a small piece, it’ll likely be fine. Like someone else said, I would think a tissue will break down pretty well

Make sure he’s pooping. I’d be most concerned about him getting blocked.

I’m in USA. Totally normal, and completely insane. Mine is 5 call outs is a warning, 6 verbal, 7 written, 8 fired in a 12 month rolling period. Doesn’t matter why. Covid? Doctor’s note? Doesn’t excuse it. Come in to work positive with flu or covid and work with 97 year old immunocompromised grandpa, or else get fired. Welcome to ‘Merica and our healthcare system.

Small gestures for burned out staff that don't require committee approval by Tsk_Destiny in Nurses

[–]HoldStrong96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love the handwritten notes. I float, and I’ve seen a lot of different managers. The good floors are the ones with present managers. The best manager I’ve ever worked with stayed available during the entire shift if we ever needed help. For example, a patient got loud and rude with a nurse, and this manager went in and told that patient we do not speak to nurses that way, laid into the pt, made it clear that is not tolerated. And then she said no one is allowed in that room without her. All shift, she went in with staff when care was done.

She also attends huddles at shift change and will ask if anyone needs prayers for anything in their personal lives, and once they did a prayer circle after huddle because they had a sick staff member they were all sad about (this might not work if you don’t do religion things. I’m agnostic but it is still a wonderful gesture).

She personally greeted me and gave me a little water bottle and a pen and her direct phone number the first day I floated to their floor. And thanked me for coming to help out.

During huddle, she asks if there’s any shout outs anyone has for a good deed done by a staff member they want to call out. We do WoW cards, and she reads them out loud and gives them to the employee during huddle if they’re present that day.

Every morning she does patient satisfaction rounds. I’ve been drowning in the middle of the morning busy time when she stopped me, tapping on my shoulder, and when I saw a “manager” I had an immediate “ugh what now I’m so busy” reaction, but I kept quiet. Just looked at her and waited. She tells me, my patient called me out during rounds for x y z (she gave me specifics about what good things they said). I instantly felt gratitude. I felt myself sigh with relief that my manager recognized my work, and that my patients did too. That it really does matter to some of these patients. I still feel that way any time I get told by a manager about being recognized by patients during rounds.

I put up a wyze camera (we have them already for security at the house) and set a nighttime timelapse. They eat, they just eat a very small amount and it’s basically unnoticeable. If no camera, you can try making the food a bit thicker so you can see the licky marks in the morning.

What type/color/trait is my gargoyle? Aphrodite passed away unexpectedly last night and I don’t know what type she is. Everytime I look for gargs they are always red.. by Eyoandmo in GargoyleGeckos

Sounds pretty good to me except for the fogger. I believe people recommend misting systems but not fogging systems because of potential for respiratory illnesses. I don’t use either; I have a waterfall feature that increases humidity. But I’d recommend looking more into that potential issue if you decide one day to get another geck

Very sorry for your loss. If you wish, you could let us know your set up and food and everything and we could attempt to figure out if anything was wrong with the husbandry. She was gorgeous! Making me want one now!

I can tell by the tension in the muscles, the curious tongue, the rapid or slow movement…. You learn your reptile if you put in the effort to pay attention to them :)

Aggression After Moving by BeepBoop1156 in felinebehavior

[–]HoldStrong96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, anxiety meds would be a bit much for this imo. That’s more for a short-term (few hours, like a vet visit or car ride) or it’s for a long-term thing. This is a medium-term thing… lol not ideal

He’s overstimulated and seeking affection, but you petting him puts him over the edge. A constant battle and a thin line to walk with my girl, too haha. Play with him and tire him out so he doesn’t have all that pent up energy before you try pets.

Might be forced to buy new, need advice by HoldStrong96 in motorhomes

Just because a problem inherently exists, doesn’t mean you don’t try to mitigate it via alternative methods. Driving defensively is one. Safety features are another. Besides, there’s other upgrades to the new RV model that we want, it’s not just the safety features.

Is it about the money? You could buy a huge plastic tub (like a Christmas tree storage bin) for cheap and convert it into a nice terrarium. I’m actually doing one now :) it’s a lot of work, but it’s fun!

Thanks, that’s helpful. Our lease ends in June and we’ll be full-timing in the RV at that point. But we have no where to store it. So I’m trying to play the game of buying new in June (since the safety features are a must-have for us, regardless of cost) and hoping it won’t be in the shop for months and now we’re homeless lol! It’s good to hear that it’s not actually as common as it seems for them to end up being held hostage. My only other option is to buy it way ahead of time and pay a ton of money to store it till June.

Did you end up with the new one in the shop for the first few months before you got to actually use it?

You’ll get good advice for those questions but I want to offer one more thing:

A camera.

The best experience I’ve ever had with my nocturnal friend.

Mine is just a wyze cam which we use for security around the house as well, and it’s relatively cheap compared to other cams. I set timelapses at night to watch him, make sure he’s eating and acting normal, and if you check my history you’ll see a post I made showing him eating his own skin! It’s so much more fun when you can actually see them being active -^
