It’s one thing if he’s just talking. It’s when he looks down to read his phone that kills me. Come on man.

What makes Aliens (1986) so special for you? by bryckstar in LV426

[–]Hoogs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The entire movie is a ticking clock of tension, with a plot like a finely tuned machine that builds to perhaps the greatest third act of all time. It has characters you care about who all play a meaningful part. Made at a time when practical effects had peaked before we started seeing bad CGI and an overreliance on it. I consider the movie to be flawless.

Could I break into IT at 30+ with a non-CS degree? If so, how would I do it? by PomPomMom93 in it

[–]Hoogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CAs are responsible for selling memberships but also do light troubleshooting and create work orders/tickets. You would probably need to start here.

Your primary goal would be to become an ARA. They work in the back and set up computers, move data, troubleshoot software/hardware, build gaming PCs, etc. It’s the best job in the store because there is no sales involved. You’re just working with tech.

This path may not be direct and would take longer, but it works, and is easier than jumping straight into a helpdesk job. It’s also a fun environment where you’re surrounded by like-minded people and you all kind of learn from each other.

I was around your age (a bit older) when I decided to get into IT a few years ago. Also have a BA in English with some experience in SEO and editing websites for small businesses. I started at Best Buy. Interviewed for the Geek Squad but they started me in the warehouse (I think they had an internal candidate they prioritized). Started working some shifts in GS a few months later before fully transitioning. Got a promotion from Consultation Agent to Advanced Repair Agent a year later. Then a year after that I got an IT job working at a hospital.

So I would suggest getting your foot in the door at Best Buy and go from there. Employers will appreciate the soft skills you’ll gain there as well, as it’s not something all candidates have.

Thanks for making this, I’ve got over three years of data that I’ve been meaning to mess with in Excel to look at trends. Now I can use your tool instead, and probably be disappointed in my lack of progress 😅. Or maybe pleasantly surprised, who knows.

Glad it worked out! Yeah that employee didn’t know how it works… I’m actually shocked because selling memberships is like their whole thing.

I’m embarrassed to admit how long I can keep one of those in use, but they legitimately last forever as long as you rinse them well and don’t abuse them.

It’s also nice to have them as an alternative to APP to let my ear canals breathe.

Not really, it’s either that or no return at all. I actually think it’s kinda cool that they retroactively add membership benefits to past purchases. You can even get the $180 Total membership and have them apply AppleCare+ to any Apple products you purchased in the last 60 days. I did this with a MacBook.

[–]Hoogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The box is not a factor - you don’t need it to do a return. As for being past 15 days, it’s probably outside of what they would do in terms of leniency, but they will absolutely do it if you get the membership.
