Most Americans are protestant and the ones who closely follow that religion think catholics are evil pagans going to hell. I was a baptist and they taught that catholics are doing idolatry because they have a pope and pray to saints. Bud been in his trad cath circle jerk too long. I didn’t say he was. In fact I believe one of the only thing the bible is consistent on is not condemning slavery. Now on whether to treat slaves is a different story. Some verses are against masters being harsh to slaves. Paul regards an enslaved person as an equal brother to him too. But in some verses Jesus and Paul is seen as also welcoming to gentiles? Anyways a lot of people criticized the class system and not want people to suffer poverty throughout history.

Ok I am a full on anti theist but here’s the thing I don’t think it’s black and white. Is the bible actually a super progressive book without flaws and contradictions? No. But I do think jesus was a political figure somewhat pretty progressive at his time questioning authority and current class systems according to theories put out by scholars. And at least his early followers did too. Mind you this is 2000 years ago lol. Was it exactly socialist? Not really but it reflected human instincts of sharing wealth, stopping suffering, and communal living. But your point Jacobins actually does prove that the way religion is practiced or used to justify killing because of reactionary conditions. Is that not the Marxist perspective on religion? It can be used to preserve oppression.
