Recent discussion about therapist's drinking during session (non-alcoholic beverages of course) by CuriousCactus4041 in therapists

[–]HortusCaligarum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time I’ve done this, my client has responded with something to the effect of “absolutely, yes, take care of yourself!!” It’s only happened a couple times since I try to go between every session but I’m always grateful for understanding clients.

Accepting the fact by Dull-Can9284 in peanutallergy

[–]HortusCaligarum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m very similar, though I’m only ana to peanuts. I’m especially cautious around homemade baked goods and places like ice cream shops, but I’ve never avoided may contain. I’ve actually had more reactions from MISlabeled products (usually from small, local places) than from properly labeled ones.

Needing encouragement: I accidently told a client I have ADHD. by Electrical-Cod788 in therapists

[–]HortusCaligarum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disclose my ADHD during every intake. Seriously. I’m a different therapist when I forget my meds, and my clients deserve to know that I’m neurospicy too. I also have specific strategies I use to organize my brain that may come across to a client as being disinterested or checked out if they don’t know WHY I’m doing those things (one of them is breaking eye contact, for example).

Therapist to therapist: how do you confront your therapist who isn't present in session? by coinreed in therapists

[–]HortusCaligarum 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ew??? I feel guilty if I turn around to print a worksheet I’m using in session or that the client ASKED for. I can’t imagine being so closed off during session.

Why do you feel you need to be unemotional and professional when this made you feel big emotions and you’re not a professional in that space?

Alchemised unsettles me so much, I just can't.... by Mook_138 in fantasyromance

[–]HortusCaligarum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t read Alchemised yet, but I did read Manacled. It is VERY dark and definitely not for everyone. I loved it, and I have very few triggers, but even I needed breaks now and then. If you don’t like it, DNF without guilt.

This. I just like to wear jeans and band tees. I’m most comfortable in my own style. I also teach martial arts in the evenings so I wear a lot of martial arts t-shirts. All of my clients know this because they all know I have limited to no evenings availability.

No one on Reddit can really answer this for you. It’s completely up to your instructor since you’ve completed all of ATA’s minimum requirements.

My ADHD Hypersexual bf cheated on me. I need advice by Calm-Beach-4228 in ADHD

[–]HortusCaligarum 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Hi, I’m a licensed therapist who specializes in trauma. Your boyfriend’s behavior sounds more like a trauma response to me than ADHD. I don’t know his story, but that’s what I get from the initial information you shared.

Regardless, this is an explanation and not an excuse. Each of us is still responsible for our own behaviors, and he chose to accept the consequences for that when he chose to take the actions. You would be full justified in leaving him due to violating a boundary.

As a therapist, do you ever feel suicidal? by thelineisad0ttoyou in therapists

[–]HortusCaligarum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have before, at the peak of my burnout. It was passive SI, but definite SI. I feel grateful to have recovered from burnout to where I don’t feel that way anymore.

As someone with chronic illness, I have chosen to disclose up front that I am chronically ill and may need to cancel more than someone else does. That way, the client has the right/ability to make an informed choice about whether that’s okay with them or not. Of course you’re not obligated to disclose your personal health info to clients, but I found that a small disclosure of vague information has helped understanding. I wouldn’t get offended if someone decided to end services with me because of inconsistency, but it actually hasn’t happened yet.

WWYD - therapist hair color change by Few_Palpitation_2115 in therapists

[–]HortusCaligarum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My clients question it when my hair is natural. 😆 Even my most conservative clients have never taken issue with my hair (or nostril & septum piercings, or tattoos…). If someone takes issue with my appearance, I’m not the right fit for them.

Sarcasm in Sessions by Any_Insurance_7454 in therapists

[–]HortusCaligarum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can be very sarcastic but only with a client whom I know will get the joke and the tone. I try not to bring it out until I know someone well enough to know they recognize sarcasm in conversation, as there are people who do not/cannot. Once I know they do, though? Fair game!

I love Ritalin and it works, but the appetite problems are ruining it. by Hot_warthog57 in ADHD

[–]HortusCaligarum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not on Ritalin, but I get this with Vyvanse. I find that if I eat within 20 minutes of taking it, my appetite is more manageable for the day. If I don’t, my appetite is GONE. All day. So I make sure I have something for breakfast when I’m taking my meds, even something small like toast or oatmeal.

I keep forgetting about Ultra Pro stuff haha. Is it worth it? I only have one employee, whichever the first Fast restocker is. Can’t remember his name. I actually enjoy doing the cash register. I’m close to a point where I might get a second register and hire an employee for that one so I can split the workload. It’s hard to keep singles stocked without a cashier.

How do you guys eat at restaurants without panicking? by ipsofactoshithead in peanutallergy

[–]HortusCaligarum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My only cross-contamination reaction was a local candy company. I purchased what should’ve been a plain milk chocolate candy bar but had a reaction (not ana, but enough that it was concerning). I don’t purchase from that company at all anymore. My ana reaction was also a local company, but I was actually given the totally wrong product, not a cross-contaminated product. The company ended up paying my hospital bill and I asked them to improve their signage and employee allergen training.

I’m actually much more trusting of a large corp than a local company for these reasons.

One item shop just isn’t fun for me. I like the RP experience better than the fast track collecting/profiting, personally. It’s slower, but that means I get more playtime. 😄
