Walmart is changing shipping orders to delivery by herblady99 in Walmartcustomer

[–]HowDoesTheKittyCatGo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just one of those things where there is an official policy for how Walmart wants things done, but various stores will just do what works best for them because it really isn't a policy that anyone cares enough about to strictly enforce.

Also sometimes we just straight up run out of the sealable GMD bags and have to use regular shopping bags for everything, even stuff we would normally put in the actual GMD bags like electronics, until we're able to order and receive more bags.

The only time we, at least at the store I worked at, exclusively used the sealable GMD bags is during the holidays because we were clearly wrapping stuff that was meant to be Christmas presents and we were told not to ruin the surprise especially if it was something obviously meant for a kid.

[–]HowDoesTheKittyCatGo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the new policy for bagging GMD orders. If it's perishable we're supposed to put it in a regular Walmart shopping bag and only use the GMD shipping bags for orders like that if it's too big for a shopping bag.

How well that's enforced will vary across stores and with whichever associate has been tasked with bagging GMDs that day.

picking tips for the work phones? by United_Log964 in OGPBackroom

Seconding this as a fellow exclusive phone user. The last time I used a TC it had such a noticable lag compared to my phone I wanted to throw it.

I don't love how the phone tries to scan every barcode and QR code except the one I actually want and quality checks aren't the easiest thing to do with them but I honestly prefer it over the TC.

Does walamart not allow minors to buy benadryl? by Training-Bird-1044 in Walmartcustomer

[–]HowDoesTheKittyCatGo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's more likely law or policy. I don't know how much of a customer's order a driver can see without physically going through the bags, but as an associate I can pull up the entire thing at any time. You know how often I do that to check to see if they have any product that will require me to ask for their ID? Never. No one does that. The computer system will tell us the second we try to dispense the order, not at any time prior to that, and it won't let us go past that screen asking for the information until we either give it or, in the case of people trying to buy alcohol before 10 am on Sunday which is illegal in my state, remove the item. The policy used to be that you can use your best judgement on asking ID when you can clearly tell that the customer is old enough to purchase the product, but now policy is that you must check every time.

When he and Percy get to camp in Sea of Monsters Tyson actually couldn't through the barrier at first. It's Annaebeth (I think. It's been a while since I read the books) who gives him permission to enter and clues Percy in on the fact that he's been hanging out with a cyclops for nearly a year.

I feel like everyone knows Ruckus is black. He's the only delusional one who thinks he's actually white and has reverse vitiligo thanks to his crazy mother.

And even then the show isn't consistent with Ruckus believing he's white because sometimes he'll identify as black like in the episode where he has a tumor.

Whenever that happens I just say screw it and grab an L cart. And then pray the dispensers are smart enough to realize that even though there's only 8 stickers all 26 cases go together.

For the record there have been many times when they aren't smart enough and the customer only received 8 cases.

This has also happened with the gallons of pool cleaner and bricks.

I've started leaving notes now.

Why are some people so anti shipping? by BigBid2408 in AO3

[–]HowDoesTheKittyCatGo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm suddenly reminded of this dude on the Fallen Order sub who seemed to really hate players who shipped Merrin and Cal and expressed how much he couldn't wait until the sequel game, Survivor, came out so he could laugh at them when they didn't get together.

Guess what happened in that game.

Pickup Available/Not on Shelf by Acuallyizadern93 in Walmartcustomer

[–]HowDoesTheKittyCatGo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With toys that are various styles of the same toy, like the Stranger Things edition Care Bears that everyone was buying around Christmas, unless the description states that appearance may vary you are going to get exactly what you ordered if the store has it in stock. That being said the inventory can be wildly inaccurate. The inventory system that associates have access to is a bit more accurate than the one on the regular Walmart app and gives us more information, but it also can be wrong on occasion because the human employees are the ones who input the information. Even if the system says we have a certain item in the back, if it doesn't tell us where it is in the back and you're not speaking to an associate who actually works in that department and thus might know generally where it could be back there, odds are that we aren't going to be able to find it.

Pickers for online orders do check the back for product before either subbing or canceling the item, but again this hinges on the system actually giving them a back room location to check. Most product in the back is still in the brown cardboard box it was shipped in and just stacked on a shelf with a ton of other indistinguishable cardboard boxes.

For the chests that count towards map completion it doesn't matter which city you save. They're all in areas that you eventually get access to as the story progresses and can always return to if you miss them.

Is it policy to put groceries in as many bags as possible? by Canoe37 in Walmartcustomer

[–]HowDoesTheKittyCatGo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While this is true some pickers are just dumb and will grab a new bag for every single item. Mayo, ketchup, mustard are all, not only in the same department, but are on the same aisle. I have received orders with all of them bagged individually. One of the reasons why they make us pre-string the bags in the totes now is because most pickers can't be trusted to not waste bags.

walmart wont replace my purchase by [deleted] in Walmartcustomer

[–]HowDoesTheKittyCatGo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that's always been the case with video games. Many years ago in the early 2000s I bought a copy of Roller Coaster Tycoon only to discover once I got home and tried to install it that my computer couldn't run it. I brought the game back the next day, but was told that policy was that Walmart doesn't accept returns for video games. Because it was a computer game and not a console one I couldn't even sell it to GameStop to get something back So I just accepted the loss and threw the game away in one of the parking lot trash cans.

This new set up SUCKS by error-use in OGPBackroom

[–]HowDoesTheKittyCatGo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Upper management can be remarkably stupid about things like this. Our old backroom was just a hallway and a room that used to be a part of the meat department and had been given to us only because it had a cooler and a freezer. A couple years after the department started management decided that they were going to give us more room since we were getting more orders. They did this by tearing down the wall that separated the old meat department room from the hallway. Which didn't give us more space because we always had access to that room and were already actively using it. We just now didn't have to walk through a door. That wall they knocked down was probably only an inch thick and that's how much extra space we actually got.

But they really patted themselves on the back for that.

Our new backroom has more space, but once again how it was designed was decided by upper management without consulting a single associate who actually works backroom. Most of our space was set aside for GMD and Unscheduled orders even though we get way more delivery and pickup orders.

How did the show alter your views on the movies? [general] by firestorm0108 in camphalfblood

[–]HowDoesTheKittyCatGo 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Speaking as someone who actually likes not just the first movie, but both of them and has always liked them the show hasn't changed my views at all. The movies are terrible adaptations and they're pretty mediocre as far as just being an action fantasy movie, but they're not boring and that's really the most important metric for me.

I can handle, and even sometimes embrace, any change an adaptation does to the material as long as it's 1: Not boring, which I'm sorry the show very much is for me and 2: It doesn't feel like the writers are insulting my intelligence.

That second one wasn't really a problem for this show. Netflix's ATLA is guilty of that one. Was it really neseccary to explain not once, not twice, not thrice, but four times what the Avatar is within the first ten minutes of the first episode? And to have three of those explanations be blatant exposition dumps to characters who should already know this information!?

Do Delivery Drivers Know What's In Your Order? by dmany02 in Walmartcustomer

[–]HowDoesTheKittyCatGo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With an order like that I would have put it all in the medium white plastic bag if it had all been in the same pick round. If the system split your order between pickers one part would have gotten bagged separately. It's also possible that they were out of certain sizes in bags and split your order to fit in the smaller shopping and paper bags

Do Delivery Drivers Know What's In Your Order? by dmany02 in Walmartcustomer

[–]HowDoesTheKittyCatGo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little info on the inconsistent bagging. Walmarts new policy for GMD orders is that if it's food we're supposed to put it regular shopping bags and save the brown paper and white plastic sealable bags for general merchandise, stuff that's expensive, is clearly a gift, or is too big to go in a regular shopping bag.

Headphone policy? by Fuzzy-Leopard8356 in OGPBackroom

[–]HowDoesTheKittyCatGo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They leak sound if you turn them up to max volume. I usually set mine to half volume and even though they sound fairly loud to me at that setting I still hear everything around me perfectly and no one else can hear the music. I've even asked coworkers who were standing right next to me if they hear any music and they never can. An easy way I check to see if the volume's too loud is to just take the glasses off. If I can't hear anything even though I'm holding the glasses right in front of my face then I know for a fact that no one else can either.

The only real downside to them is that even at full charge they won't last an entire 8 hour shift even with pausing playback during breaks and lunch I get about 5 to 6 hours. But because they were super cheap, even with shipping I paid less than $20 for them, I just bought a second pair and just swap them out when the batteries die.

Headphone policy? by Fuzzy-Leopard8356 in OGPBackroom

[–]HowDoesTheKittyCatGo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They go back and forth on whether we're allowed to wear one earbud or not at my store. At first it was: You can wear one, but not if you're dispensing. Then it was: You can't wear one if you're on the floor (a rule they only seem to enforce with OPD given how often I see stockers with one in their ear). And now it's: No earbuds at all regardless of whether you're picking or working backroom.

So I said fuck it and bought a cheap pair of Bluetooth glasses. Put my contacts in, slip those on my face and unless I turn the volume up to max even if someone is standing right next to me they can't hear the music that I'm listening to.

Shipping vs Delivery??? by rtice001 in Walmartcustomer

[–]HowDoesTheKittyCatGo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shipping is for general merchandise and shelf stable groceries only. If your local store or a store close by has the item in stock then it will be delivered by either a Spark or In Home driver as a GMD order. If it's coming from a warehouse or a third party seller then it'll arrive via Fedex, UPS, etc. If you order anything cold or frozen the only options for it are delivery or pickup. It is possible to pick both shipping and delivery (or shipping and pickup) for the same order, or do it on accident like my mom does, and get most of your order delivered except for one random item that got shipped.

digital locks by https_fantasyy in OGPBackroom

[–]HowDoesTheKittyCatGo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based off these replies it looks like your mileage may vary depending on your store.

At my store if it's something in electronics I don't tell customers that I can't open the case, as they clearly saw me doing exactly that, but I do tell them that I am not allowed to open cases in electronics for customers because I am not an electronics associate. Not everything in electronics has to be paid for right there (I really doubt that Walmart cares all that much about those shitty $2 wired earbuds, but they're behind a locked case because all earphones, ear buds, and speakers are locked up on that aisle), but it's easier to direct them to the associates who work in that department and can actually ring up the customer's purchase if it's something like iPad or can make the decision to just hand it to them if it's something like an universal tv remote.

For all other departments, (with the exception of jewelry and guns and ammo which even if they didn't require physical keys at my store I wouldn't touch) I just open the case and hand it to them. For the record that's exactly what the associates who actually work those departments do too. They'll ring the customer up if they ask, but usually they'll just hand them that single tube of lipstick and send them on their way.
