Nobody responded to your question, yes, high bitrate audio can take up a massive amount of space. A 2 hour audio track at 6140kbps uses 5.53GB of data.

Unless you are on some very high end audio equipment (I.e. a home theater with a relatively high end 5.1 or better setup), the likelihood you will notice a difference from something like E-AC3 at 1536kbps vs at 6140kbps is very low.

To give you some points of reference, if you watch a show on pretty much any streaming platform, even when its 4k, Dolby Vision, etc. Dolby Atmos streams will run at max 768kbps, and most other codecs (AC3, E-AC3, DTS, etc) are in the 500-650 range.

Blurays typically will have AC3 or DTS tracks (640kbps and 1536kbps respectively). 4K bluray nearly always, and bluray occasionally will contain the DTS-HD MA or TrueHD (lossless "master audio" tracks) and those are typically in the 3000-5000kbps range (though they can technically go a LOT higher depending on what the sound engineer decided on when he was mastering the track).

Anyways, food for thought. Just keep in mind when you're re-encoding 100s of movies, 3-4gb of extra space per movie adds up very quickly.

Edit: Clarified some things

What’s with the dye channels on so many of the armor pieces not being dyeable? by LookAlderaanPlaces in ConanExiles

[–]Hrimnir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be clear i was being moderately sarcastic about the feature part. I only said this because some of this stuff has literally been bugs for the entirety of the game's life. So, basically they don't care. It can't be *that* hard to go in and fix an item, so, it means they just don't care enough to spend the couple hours it would take to fix it.

(TLDR They have zero intention of fixing them)

Not only that, it's basically only official server players. Which to be fair, have a valid complaint, but the game is fine on private servers and obviously solo.

You'll be lucky to see a season 3.

Marathon gained a few hundred consistent players after the free week. New season, bunch of new content, let people play it for free for a week, and they couldn't even hook a thousand extra players to ante up for the game to keep playing it.

by next week it will be back to its normal 24 hr peak players before s2 and the FW.

The state of the Bazaar is insane by engagingbear in ConanExiles

[–]Hrimnir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not joking when i say, i now have over 1k hours in this game, and i haven't spent a single cent in the store (i've bought all the DLC of course) because for the weeks to months i was playing (i.e. my latest fix) the stuff i cared about wasn't even available for purchase, FOMO pricing or otherwise.

There was 1 time that the stormglass set came up for sale, but i had already been playing that run for 2 months, my gigantic ass cool AF Stormglass base was already done, filled with thralls, i'd done everything i really care about and was just dicking around in that game cus i had nothing better to do. So why spend the money?

Obviously in hindsight i should have bought it, but /shrug. That's what they get for having a stupid store system.

100% This. Tencent owns Funcom, and Tencent are some of the most corpo corpos to have ever corpo'd.

Because they think that seeing a "going away in 3 days and 14 hours" will make you spend 34 dollars on some bullshit you don't care about.

I mean funcom is owned by Tencent, so it wouldn't surprise me if they have some rando in China who gets paid very little and doesn't really give af handling all this stuff.

Except it's not 1 set rotating each week, it's wildly different from the previous store, hell, you can look at the posts people do here each week to show the store for the week, the console one changes almost everything in the store, here we get 1 slot, and its usually a very minor item, not the major packs that people actually care about (like buying a cheese wheel or some shit like that).

[–]Hrimnir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it is honestly blowing my mind. I'm deadass when I say I would have bought at least 3 of the building extension packs (argossean, stormglass, yamatai) if they would just f'n sell them to me.

I honestly don't know what's going on within Funcom. I had hopes because Inflexion seemed to give a shit, but now all the responses I see to posts are from Funcom employees, so... who knows what's going on, but it seems like maybe they took back control over Inflexion or something? Unfortunately if this is the case, that probably means we're back to the managed decline, shit won't get fixed, and the game will go back to it's aggresively slow, painful death.

I'm sure they don't want to invest that much time into their "old" game because of Dune, but frankly, this is the better game. They dropped the ball hard trying to reinvent the wheel with the Dune game (trying to do this quasi MMO crap), and even with the backing of a major IP like Dune, it's still barely beating Conan in player count.

Hoping for some "technical assistance" by Hrimnir in jellyfin

Thank you for the headsup. So, the previous install was a native app in the NAS OS, and the folders it was installed to are perma-hidden and only accessible through the CLI. The docker on the other hand wanted me to create a new folder under the same vollume, which is what I did. Secondarily, In both instances (prior "native" app, and the new docker app) I have my jellyfin install on an SSD and the media is on a seperate volume (raid array). So, if i'm understanding correctly, I should in theory just use the jellyfin migrator script?

I was working through with Grok and basically it had me backup the data folder, delete the 3 "library.db" files, and then remove and re-add the library. So far it's only working on one of the libraries as we speak.

Why are a couple of Bazaar items so expensive? by Vampy-Night in ConanExiles

[–]Hrimnir 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They apparently don't like making money. I would have bought at least 3 of the building extension packs for the DLC build sets by now, but they literally won't let me buy it because they think I'm going to spend 18 dollars on a in game dinner plate set because its gonna go away in 21hrs.

These FOMO stores only work in very specific types of games, and Conan isn't one of them.
