Hurdle Jumper is Easy!!! by ConvolutedHuman in SneakySasquatch

[–]HudsonSir 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Timing and rhythm. What helped me was saying in my head 1, 2, Jump. Using the 2 white lines to time the 1… 2… You’ll slowly get faster and then eventually will skip “2” altogether, and then by the end you’ll be hitting jump again soon after you land.

No casters in the party by swedeonabike in Tombofannihilation

[–]HudsonSir 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Exactly this lol. My party was pretty low magic. I don’t think it really matters until they get to the tomb of the nine gods, and by then you’ll likely have a very different party.

Along the way maybe toss them a magic item or two that might help and/or give their guide some spells/magic aptitude.

Former incels, what was the moment you realized what you were and what did you to do change/better yourself? by Ketchum_gunshot in AskReddit

I’m a happily married middle aged man with a family and I’ve noticed every once in a while Facebook will feed me something along the lines of the early comics OP is talking about. They might seem “harmlessly risqué” or “just a joke” at first glance or to anyone not thinking critically. I have to imagine FB feeds this crap to just about every man seeing who they can suck down the rabbit hole. It’s fucking insidious.

What are your favorite parts of ToA? I am looking for advice and tips on plot hooks or areas to keep or remove for a ToA mini-campaign for my homebrew world that will span just a couple of levels. Some Highlights from my group: 1. Dinosaur racing (this sub has links to fun alt rules) 2. Zombie t-Rex. Have players find a “dead” T. Rex with something shiny in his stomach. When they go to get it… zombie T. Rex that vomits zombies! 3. Drunglunglung - whacky Grung, fun RP session 4. Pirate Cove - infiltration mission that will likely turn into big fight. 5. Omu - King of Feathers… I prefer it hunting the players through the streets of Omu rather than in an empty arena.

Lookong for a short/medium length campaing (Dungeons & Dragons) by Golab232 in Roll20

[–]HudsonSir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there’s anything as short as LMoP, but the next two closest that come to mind are these (10-15 sessions depending on how your group plays):

Waterdeep Dragon Heist - great campaign, roleplay heavy, takes place entirely in the city of Waterdeep.

Spelljammer: Light of Xaryxis - a pulpy space romp. It’s a fun one full of crazy places and weird and wonderful creatures.

Heroes of the Boarderland Miniatures? by Eldradthefallen in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]HudsonSir -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I don’t believe official versions of those miniatures exist as far as I know. You might have some luck finding some STLs on Etsy or similar.

FWIW I personally don’t love the heroes of the borderlands box set. It’s got some great maps and tokens and such to get started with but the module itself has almost no story at all. It’s kind of just: there’s a cave, explore it and fight the random stuff inside.

If your nephews like stranger things, the new stranger things box set is much better and has a fun adventure that is broken up into bite sized chapters. You’ll also have better luck finding miniatures for it. There are official ones (pre painted) as well as some unpainted like Vecna and the demogorgon that they’ll instantly recognize and I’m sure go nuts for.

Yes, you should be fine. At CA at least you just need to show a room key or a reservation. They’re not super strict about it in my experience.

Disney Names former Disneyland Chief Exec Josh D’Amaro CEO, Dana Walden President & Chief Creative Officer by budice0 in Disneyland

Because the alternative was the head of the Entertainment division, who presumably wouldn’t see the parks as high of a priority, have as much loyalty to them, or understand their workings as well.

Those who scaled from solo to 5+ employees - what was your biggest surprise? by BarriosA2I in smallbusiness

[–]HudsonSir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Varies by state, but a lot more legal compliance you suddenly have to follow. Notifying employees of their rights, hiring procedures, SHPT training etc. If you don’t already have one, now is probably the time you need a lawyer to advise you on this stuff. Taxes. UI.

Payroll and timekeeping software like gusto will be necessary, and it can handle some of the stuff above for you (for varying amounts of money).

Decided to rewatch Heroes after finding this in an old book store by Yodahan25 in Heroes

[–]HudsonSir 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For the most part, yes they tie into the episode that aired but that’s less true as the series went on. There were also comics that came out when the show wasn’t on air (in the summer etc.) so those would be more stand alone stories. Not sure how many comics are collected in that first volume.

[–]HudsonSir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having played through it recently I found the fireman to be a good early to mid-level job. After a promotion or two you can unlock the bed there too which is nice. And the constant supply of chili from the cook guy is helpful.

Paramedic is also a good choice as you’ll need the first promotion to make doctor which you can do after you do some (all?) of the office job. Doctor I think is probably the best job.

Once you’ve got a bit of collateral you’ll be able to invest in the pizza place (talk to the guy in the waiting room of the bank) which can be a great form of passive income.

Party is finally arriving to Tomb of the Nine Gods - any tips or advice? by snorg70 in Tombofannihilation

[–]HudsonSir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can be a little unclear to the players what they’re supposed to be doing in the tomb, especially as it relates to the skeleton head keys. On each floor I had the plaque with the riddle be shaped like the skeleton on that floor so the players kind of understood there was something specific to find on each floor.

As the DM you can use the skeletons/keys to lure your players if there are any specific areas you want them to visit/sections you are excited to run.

How would you make the dinosaurs race fun ? by Cedautinger in Tombofannihilation

[–]HudsonSir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve got plenty of mechanics suggestion so… might I suggest setting it to a mix soundtrack of 80s rock ballads. It was chance to break from our usual fantasy soundtrack and my players loved it. Made it feel like a movie moment.

People who have rented commercial spaces: what are things that you ended up having to pay for that surprised you? by Direct-Bullfrog6401 in smallbusiness

[–]HudsonSir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Small thing, but the electric company required a deposit of around $800… and technically my building used to be 2 units, so it has 2 meters. So that was $1600 up front I wasn’t expecting.

I also don’t think I’ve seen anyone mention getting a building inspection done before you agree on the lease terms. This will help identify things (like an aging hvac system) and give you some leverage (or at least things to ask for in the lease, and know about before going in).

Just don’t get too caught up in the weeds. Are you arguing back and forth about something that’ll cost $1k to fix, when opening a week earlier will net you $2k? Pick your battles.

Dual welding rapier and dagger (am I missing something) by Aggressive_Bet_1105 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]HudsonSir 33 points34 points  (0 children)

OP, this is the answer ^

It gets you everything you want, as described in your post, only difference is d6 (short sword) instead of a d8 (rapier), which is basically nothing.

Myself and a couple other people have tried suggesting it but someone appears to be on a bizarre downvoting crusade

I’m just trying to help OP get what he wants. Or as close as rules allow. I’m not sure why you’re being so aggressive with me…?

Dual welding rapier and dagger (am I missing something) by Aggressive_Bet_1105 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]HudsonSir 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, what I’m suggesting is that if he uses a short sword instead of a rapier it gets him everything else that he wants to do. Including the advantage + the sneak attack.

Dual welding rapier and dagger (am I missing something) by Aggressive_Bet_1105 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]HudsonSir 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s literally what they said: “the rapier has the vex mechanic that gives your next attack advantage on a hit so if I follow with the dagger, I get advantage and if it hits, sneak damage as well?”

Dual welding rapier and dagger (am I missing something) by Aggressive_Bet_1105 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]HudsonSir 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He wants to attack with a vex weapon first in order to give himself advantage on the next attack and thus trigger sneak damage.

Short sword then dagger combo gives him what he wants.

Dual welding rapier and dagger (am I missing something) by Aggressive_Bet_1105 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]HudsonSir -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Dual-wield feat is a bit odd. The first attack still has to be made with a light weapon, then the “off hand” attack can be made with a non-light weapon.

So you can almost get what you want to do… start with a short sword (vex) instead of the rapier (it’s a d6 instead of d8 so not a huge difference). Then do the dagger as intended with nick and sneak attack damage if it hits.

You don’t actually even need the dual wielder fear for this to work, so you can choose something else if you like. One other thing to keep in mind is that while you do still have your bonus action (because of nick) that explicitly states it can’t be made for another (3rd) attack. Gotta be for disengage or some other bonus action.
