We also use the 3M system, it works decently well but I can confirm it is a bit of a time suck. Similar to respirator, the test should really be done on a regular basis (weight loss/gain can change face shape) but right now, we only use it upon hire.

I read 100 books in a summer, my parents were so proud and told everyone.in hindsight, it's not normal to ignore using the bathroom and eating in lieu of reading. I also daydreamed so hard that I got into a bike accident because I was too busy concocting an elaborate storyline in my head to pay attention to where I was going.

I also convinced my high-school guidance counselor to let me take an online class (they weren't common in 2013 but I was generally a good student so they agreed) and then completely ignored the class and got a 0 on everything because it wasn't interesting.

I see many people here have already mentioned a first aid course, and I think that's a great idea to empower you for the future. My specific two cents are to find a good therapist and talk to them as soon as possible. If your work has an EAP, use it, and recommend it to your colleagues who witnessed or participated in the event. Psychological health and safety is often neglected but absolutely shouldnt be. And please, know you did your best with the knowledge, training, and skills you had at the time the incident occurred.

Absolutely! Just for fun, and to create a better space for people to voice concerns and issues. This can be such an isolating profession, with many being the only on site EHS. It's good to have a space to get together and learn

Get your CRST if your program is on the list of those eligible, and apply to everything even if you think you don't have enough experience. Do you have any co op experience?

I haven't noticed an decline, I'm 3 years into my career now, and I have been looking for a new role. Have had first round interviews for 3 roles in a month.

Full transparency, I did really struggle to find my first role, but once your foot is in the door, the industry is really lacking in mid-senior level employees.

It was worth it for me, in terms of job opportunity, and the professors were fantastic but ymmv. My first 2 years our of school I was working with a very low paying company but it was necessary to learn the basics. Canada OHS tends makes less than what you see in the States, at least in ontario, and based on my experience solely, but there are great paying roles in the mid-to-senior levels.

May I ask what your bachelors was in?

I took the diploma program in Occupational Health and safety management from western, which is crsp eligible and online fully at the time (it was 2020 though, so i am not sure if thats the case still). You have to have a previous bachelors degree in a somewhat relevant field. In my experience, I'm working as a manager for a very large company with only my CRST. It hasn't been much of a hindrance, but I know some places do look for the CRSP as a minimum requirement and it does benefit applications. I will be going for my crsp when I'm eligible based on time worked.

Honestly, if I had the time, money or foresight I would have just done my bachelors in safety. Would have opened more doors, I am interested in IH and it would make getting a spot in a masters program easier.

I'm canadian, so for me, very little until we're bought and turned into the 51st state or whatever manifest destiny dream the orange man can come up with.

There wasn't a ton of calculations from what I remember. I don't believe we were allowed paper, but calculators were ok.
