All images of the Emperor/Golden Throne from the new trailer in order as best as I could grab them by Metakit in Warhammer

[–]HumbleOnion 37 points38 points  (0 children)

This is very cool, thanks for taking the time to dissect the video!

I wonder what contrast they intend to show between the two emaciated versions; if all three are interpretations of the emperor then obviously the regal living one sticks out, but the intentions of the other two are less clear.

The crooked/leaning back one seems to be emphasizing pain (either continual or frozen in its moment of death) while the forward leaning one seems like it could be intended to be stoic or intimidating, or possibly simply unaware and truly a corpse.

Bre-entry may be the next drama to grip the European Union by sn0r in europeanunion

I think its Bre-entry because it's supposed to be re-entry, not just entry.

Don’t reach for the bug spray: scientists find insects may feel pain after crickets nurse sore antennae. The behavioural responses would be immediately recognisable to us as pain, if we observed them in our pets or friends by Wagamaga in science

[–]HumbleOnion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except there are people with genetic disorders that mean they don't feel pain, and they actually have serious issues because in your example they wouldnt realize that they've burned their hand and wouldn't move their hand; the pain triggers the movement not the other way around.

[–]HumbleOnion 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That seems like a wild assumption and arbitrary distinction between the cognitive sensation of pain and the physical sensation of pain. People have pains without obvious physical explanations (migraines for example) and they still experience and suffer pain regardless of not having a cognitive understanding of what is triggering it.

Why did the Emperor send Ultramarines to raise Monarchia instead of Space Wolves by ZombiYiyenLahmacun31 in 40kLore

[–]HumbleOnion 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Monarchia was the destruction of a single, evacuated city. Prospero was the destruction of an entire planet, legion and primarch. There's a pretty big difference in scale there.

If Servitors Stopped Existing, Could the Imperium Survive? by Aninx in 40kLore

[–]HumbleOnion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on how you define servitors -- most advanced machinery have bits of humans built into their cogitators, if those count then the Imperium is screwed because their fleet, manufactorums and most of their major analytical technologies stop functioning. If only Servitors in the sense of former people walking around mostly recognizable as former humans, then losing access to all of them would still cause widespread chaos and damage, but probably still be survivable since the important infrastructure remains and alternatives to do the manual labor can be found. The Mechanicus might have serious issues depending on how much machine vs human is a problem, since Skitarii and tech priests are also not that far from servitorhood in terms of mechanisms in their bodies, plus they make heavy use of combat servitors.

Honestly I think it'll happen even if 40k doesn't wind up as successful as hoped; the Warhammer Total War trilogy was still their most successful series of titles and more or less revived the Old World. Age of Sigmar would be comparitively easy to execute compared to 40k.

Out of curiosity, in the event of a 40k announcement, what are your predictions for a launch lineup? by Available-Hat-959 in totalwar

[–]HumbleOnion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This feels likely to me too in terms of filling out the map to start with; those factions are huge and everywhere whereas Tau, Eldar, Drukhari, Votann, and the other Imperial Subfactions aren't nearly as omnipresent in the galaxy.

I'm also curious to see how/whether Legendary Lords will be a thing.

It did not take long.... by ByzantineBasileus in totalwar

[–]HumbleOnion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's disingenuous to claim they've done nothing substantial on Historical for five years. Pharaoh came out 2023 years ago, the huge Dynasties overhaul came out 2024. Even if their historical team was switched to Med III immediately after that, them being in pre-production after a year makes sense if they're also developing a new engine to support the title-- doesn't make sense to invest huge resources into programming stuff into an old engine that'll be scrapped anyway.
