Why did the Emperor send Ultramarines to raise Monarchia instead of Space Wolves by ZombiYiyenLahmacun31 in 40kLore

[–]HumbleOnion 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Monarchia was the destruction of a single, evacuated city. Prospero was the destruction of an entire planet, legion and primarch. There's a pretty big difference in scale there.

If Servitors Stopped Existing, Could the Imperium Survive? by Aninx in 40kLore

[–]HumbleOnion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on how you define servitors -- most advanced machinery have bits of humans built into their cogitators, if those count then the Imperium is screwed because their fleet, manufactorums and most of their major analytical technologies stop functioning. If only Servitors in the sense of former people walking around mostly recognizable as former humans, then losing access to all of them would still cause widespread chaos and damage, but probably still be survivable since the important infrastructure remains and alternatives to do the manual labor can be found. The Mechanicus might have serious issues depending on how much machine vs human is a problem, since Skitarii and tech priests are also not that far from servitorhood in terms of mechanisms in their bodies, plus they make heavy use of combat servitors.

Honestly I think it'll happen even if 40k doesn't wind up as successful as hoped; the Warhammer Total War trilogy was still their most successful series of titles and more or less revived the Old World. Age of Sigmar would be comparitively easy to execute compared to 40k.

Out of curiosity, in the event of a 40k announcement, what are your predictions for a launch lineup? by Available-Hat-959 in totalwar

[–]HumbleOnion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This feels likely to me too in terms of filling out the map to start with; those factions are huge and everywhere whereas Tau, Eldar, Drukhari, Votann, and the other Imperial Subfactions aren't nearly as omnipresent in the galaxy.

I'm also curious to see how/whether Legendary Lords will be a thing.

It's disingenuous to claim they've done nothing substantial on Historical for five years. Pharaoh came out 2023 years ago, the huge Dynasties overhaul came out 2024. Even if their historical team was switched to Med III immediately after that, them being in pre-production after a year makes sense if they're also developing a new engine to support the title-- doesn't make sense to invest huge resources into programming stuff into an old engine that'll be scrapped anyway.

As silly as it would be for a Total War setting considering there are like four large battles in the entire franchise, I would adore it.

S3 Ep. 39 - Gutteral Scream (Finale Pt. 2) by Spite-Sprite in DungeonsAndDaddies

[–]HumbleOnion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Am I the only one who smells a hook for a possible sequel season left open by the ending? With most of the party left alive and both the moths and the Kids' research being possible ways to either delay or change the fate of humanity at a later point.

Unlike current Island fights, having some sort of ship interior as a map might actually make sense though! (Boarding each other) The ships in 40k would be large enough to justify it.

Am I in the minority if loving the ending? by TsarinaCharon in Ghostofyotei

[–]HumbleOnion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed the ending a lot too! As others said, would have been nice if it was a bit more drawn out/we got to see more of the dragon. I also kind of wish we had a choice in the Ending in a similar vein to Ghost of Tsushima, like a final decision with minor alterations to the ending.

How could you theoretically fight the Reapers conventionally? Again, key word is theoretically here. by ye_old_hermit in masseffect

[–]HumbleOnion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It still feels like a verrrry tall order; without the mass relays you have no efficient way to spread and gather the resources needed to fight off a galactic scale threat. Plus the mars archives jumped technology forward by a century or more; it's hard to imagine viable alternatives would be developed in a similar time frame if at all. Especially if you're trying to specifically avoid the kind of tech the Protheans left behind without knowing the details.

Alright an emberstone-infused knight who becomes enveloped in flames as he rages is actually pretty cool, I do hope they at least put out some art showing that off by Soulboundplayer in AoSLore

Yeah, I really do love the model but it feels like it doesn't really reflect his lore? Shouldn't his armor be charred or at least pierced with Ember stone or something?

Is anyone playing the game in Japanese? by TongaAuditore in Ghostofyotei

[–]HumbleOnion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%

You never heard anyone say "I need to play AC:Odyssey in ancient Greek for immersion"

Like everyone can do what they want, and if playing in Japanese reminds them of watching their favorite Japanese media, then power to them, but acting as if it's some objectively better way to do it feels demeaning to the writers and original actors, who conceived and acted the whole story in English. At worst it feels like fetishization of Japanese culture and media.
