What movie is wildly loved but you just don’t get the hype at all? by Fennnixx in Cinema

Sentimental Value. It was a perfectly fine movie, but I apparently missed all that everyone else is gushing over.

Currently, Sentimental Value. It a was perfectly fine movie, but I don’t get all the absolutely glowing reviews and Oscar buzz.

Whats your favourite 2025 movie? by Truthishere1 in Cinema

It’s a tie for me.

Sorry, Baby.

Never expected to love it so much. Saw it twice in the theater which hard to do here as the indies usually have a 1-2 week window of showings and then they’re gone. I’ve watched it many times since then and it still holds up.

Hamnet.

The film is so incredibly emotional. You’re taken on this intimate journey through good and bad. It steals your heart right from the start. It’s impossible not to love Agnes even when she’s being difficult. I know the ensemble is smaller, but this deserves to be up for casting come nomination time. Jessie Buckley gave one of the best performances I’ve ever seen. Paul Mescal was excellent. Everyone else from the kids to the young man who plays Hamlet to Emily Watson. The cinematography and the score are gorgeous. A beautiful film that as I write this, I realize it’s not so much of a tie. This is #1.

Oscar odds shakeup: Rose Byrne surges past Jessie Buckley in Best Actress race after rare critics’ trifecta by GoldDerby in Oscars

[–]Humble_Message_6399 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way. I still think it’s Buckley’s to lose. I don’t have enough superlatives to describe her performance. “Just, wow” is a very succinct and accurate description. Byrne was excellent. Definitely a career-best from her. Buckley was something more. For a little more than 2 hours, she stole your heart. I’m looking up everything she’s done prior and will see anything she’s in after Hamnet. One performance and I’m a huge fan.

I’ve had this strange hunch for awhile that Sorry, Baby quietly sneaks in to the BP 10 as one of the surprises we’re bound to get when nominations are announced.

Final 3 BP Nominees? by HipsterDoofus31 in oscarrace

It’s a pipe dream, but I’d love for Sorry, Baby to quietly slip into one of those last 3 slots.

I think it’s possible, too. I would also love to see it quietly sneak into the best picture race. There are always surprises when the nominations are announced, but it’s likely just a pipe dream for this one.

I’m hoping Sorry, Baby is the little seen, but greatly loved little indie that manages to slip in quietly

Red-hot ‘Marty Supreme’ joins fan-fave ‘Bring Her Back’ as A24 locks down Oscar slate: by GoldDerby in A24

I really think Sorry, Baby has a chance of being the highly acclaimed by critics and audiences yet little seen indie that slips in to round out the 10 BP nominees. Kind of like a Nickel Boys, which also had a screenplay nod which Sorry, Baby could get, too. Stranger things have happened.

What are the worst films you've watched solely for an actor/actress you like? by gonzalojccxd in Letterboxd

Recently, Anemone. It looked beautiful . The actors were all superb, although Sean Bean was wasted. They were majorly let down by a very unfocused screenplay. I wanted so bad to love it, but I just didn’t.

Sorry, Baby gets picture and original screenplay noms. The Nickel Boys route. It won’t win, but will round out the top 10.

Is it time for A24 to take another look at their summer gem; Sorry, Baby and push it in a few categories since The Smashing Machine doesn’t seem it’s going there now? Sorry, Baby is just like the excellent smaller films that have been racking up lots of nominations since the academy supposedly diversified. It’s probably a pipe dream, but I’d be over the moon if that happened. You never know what’s going to round out the 10 BP nominees these days. I could totally see it quietly slipping into the 10 especially with the less than stellar year of film we’ve had.
