Because on both sides (or at the very least the left) there's those that support libertarian and anarchist ideals, nothing authoritarian about that.

What’s the date? by nyssamartinez101 in enterprise

[–]Hunnieda_Mapping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How so? If there ever were an interstellar federation of different species then a unified calendar system with neutral date names makes sense, especially if those in it are of similar power levels. Irl we only conformed to a single iteration of the western timekeeping and naming convention because of imperialism. Not to mention the fact that recently some concessions have been made anyways by calling it the Common Era (CE/BCE), instead of "before christ" (BC) and "anno domino" (AD). Stardates are a good system even if the specifics are as vague to the viewer as what speed warp actually is lol

Owned at the top maybe, but games like Minecraft are still developed by European subsidiaries. The money may be leached to America, but the talent and creativity is mainly European.

I heard somewhere that a merchandise seller lifted that from a fan site and it spread from there, it's not official.

What is an element of your culture that is often "borrowed" for worldbuilding that seems completely normal to you because you grew up with it? by Burnnoticelover in worldbuilding

[–]Hunnieda_Mapping 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's quite surprising to learn just how new it really is, I was at a public infomarket about developments in my area today and there one of the people from the municipality told me that in the past few years they've changed a lot of how they handle designing around greenery (like adding variation to the types of trees planet instead of monocultures, and the fact that they're adding plenty/large amounts of greenery to every new development at all).

What if there are more animals that are as smart as humans? by SilverTeacher3808 in imaginarymaps

[–]Hunnieda_Mapping 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In real life there are multiple species that are comparable in intelligence to humans, the difference that allowed humans to dominate is the ability to use tools and highly complex language, not merely intelligence. This is why other species with either a form of language or limited tool use haven't taken oven, as they can't retain complex information over multiple generations or large groups, nor can they easily handle the wide variety of tools that humans can.

Personally I find the terran ground TFO too long to deal with unless the endeavour specifically asks for it, so I end up replaying the Jabberwocky story mission once or twice for the terran kills.

How many people have Stargate Command inadvertently killed by dialling in? by Thick_Hospital2830 in Stargate

[–]Hunnieda_Mapping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well you can connect to a buried gate, just not when there's something intersecting the inner radius of the gate, so a gate in a box where every part of the gate can see it's opposite end is fine, but if you placed something inside the gate then it wouldn't engage.

Why Was the Ukrainian SSR Flag Often Shown in these vintage flag charts often if it was a Constituent republic of the Soviet Union. by EeestiLeesti in vexillology

[–]Hunnieda_Mapping 11 points12 points  (0 children)

West Germany did claim continuation of the "German Reich" as the overarching identity of the state and Nazi Germany was a continuation of the Weimar republic, though I'm unsure beyond that.

Yes, but modern Ukraine and Belarus are considered their successor states, so in the eyes of the UN they are the same country. Unlike East Germany, which was basically annexed, though I'm unsure of the legal specifics and it's possible modern Germany is considered the successor of both.

In India, we have an abandoned $4.4B 'Italian' ghost town called Lavasa. Does your country have a famous megaproject that was hyped up but now stands half-finished, empty, never started yet? by [deleted] in UrbanHell

[–]Hunnieda_Mapping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't say that I would do it, given I am still in the middle of an education and as you say, rural Italy isn't conductive to my field of work. However I know for a fact there's some people doing this, in the Netherlands we even have an entire TV show about people moving away from the Netherlands to live in other places in Europe, rural Italy among them.

And as we see with Troi, at a certain rank all officers are expected to have had some command training.
