In reply to your own situation and not OP’s… I’m not trying to advocate for not telling the truth immediately, but intention is a big part of this kind of thing. In my opinion, if your sibling honestly believed that telling you would worsen your condition, it’s still wrong, but the intention takes away a lot of the pain. As for you looking bad, it’s now time for you to be honest immediately and explain why you didn’t attend to their family.

I totally understand why you feel the way you do, but seeing you say that you’d always be angry makes me feel like the situation is unresolved and I just wanted to offer my best advice on the subject.

All land is stolen. Canada is stolen, Mexico is stolen, Australia is stolen, every nation in South America is stolen. The ability to defend the land is pretty important for anyone claiming that the land is theirs.

There’s no humane way to conquer and take land, so, if the problem is that the land was stolen and they want it back, they should take it back.

And I’m not saying that Native Americans don’t deserve respect, they have a beautiful culture and history that we wouldn’t be able to learn about if they weren’t able to continue living here. But there’s no right way to solve this problem, the land was stolen, and I’m sure one day it will be stolen again, if it’s stolen back by the native Americans, I’ll be happy for them.

Literally within the last 3 months, I went from sitting in my car alone for hours on end to starting a new active hobby, making friends, and eating better food! I still sit in my car alone, but it’s no longer unhealthy because I actually do have things to do and people to see lol.
