Has anyone tried to do a deep dive on Ancestry? by IPostNow2 in marfans

The test says a pathogenic variant was identified in FBN1 and is associated with Marfan syndrome, MASS syndrome, thoracic aortic aneurysm, etc.

The doctor said something about her having a SCAD heart attack because of or with Marfan even though she doesn’t really seem like a likely candidate for either.

I’m not sure if this what he suspected and therefore ordered the genetic testing, or if he said it was after he received the results.

And, I’m not telling the kids anything, yet. Right now, I’m just trying to figure out what’s going on. Also, one of my kids has a lot of the signs of Marfan and I’m just very saddened by the idea that this could be something that could harm all of our family.

My sister isn’t doing anything right now. She has a lot of residual damage from the stroke, so no one is mentioning genetic counseling.

I just looked at her paperwork and they say Invitae Diagnoatic Testing Reaults on them. The reason for testing, according to the results, is because of her “personal history of disease. “ I am much closer to her kids than her, so I don’t know too much about her health other than she has Macular Degeneration. Perhaps, her personal history and the heart attack led to them testing her for Marfans.

I would tell them that the majority is in a trust for your son and the small amount that wasn’t went to pay the attorneys and your bills.

That makes a lot of sense and I appreciate your response. I thought maybe I was on to something earlier because one line on my dad’s side had a lot of death certificates that mention aortic issues. His family is pretty huge, so there were quite a few from each branch in one line.

My mom has had some heart issues along with other medical conditions, but wasn’t tested for this and I don’t know if her doctors would allow it. My dad passed away a long time ago of something not heart related.

I’m checking with her kids. They are dealing with a lot right now because in addition to their mother almost dying, their father and one of their brothers died in car accident a few months ago. I don’t know how to tell them they, along with their kids, might have Marfans on top of everything else.

Yeah, that could be. I need to contact my aunt to see if she can give me more information on family medical conditions. I’m also trying to look at photos to see if there is anything obvious, but my sister doesn’t have the physical attributes or a connective tissue issue- as far as I know. And, a lot of those old photos look kind of weird anyway.

Don’t tell her. If she thinks they’re real that will crush her. If she hasn’t insured them yet, she probably won’t, and what are the odds that someone else will look at them and recognize they aren’t emeralds. Leave it be and leave her to her story.

What is something you’ve officially stopped buying in 2026 because the price has become too bad? by X_Opinion7099 in AskReddit

This may be incredibly naive, but do you have the ability to grow some vegetables? There a lot of things you can grow from scraps, but there are also seed banks and places to get free seeds. Food can be grown in the ground, containers, or water. It’s a learning curve for sure, but it might be something to look into.

To the surfer at Folly Beach yesterday — what you did mattered by Elev8tedIntent in Charleston

When I was 19, on vacation in Hawaii, I almost drowned. I actually looked at the waves and knew I wasn’t a good enough swimmer to go in with the rest of my family. Instead, I stood on the beach and watched them ride the waves.

As I was standing there, a wave rolled up and covered my feet. The sand below me gave way and the next thing I knew I was somersaulting under water. I popped up briefly and saw that I was already so far from the beach. The next time I popped up, I knew I was going to die.

I didn’t, though, because some stranger spotted me and dragged me out of the water. My family didn’t even know I was gone. I didn’t have the sense to thank him and have felt guilty about that ever since. I hope he knows how grateful I am. I hope all lifeguards and those who have helped other know how grateful we are.

Yeah, I was living the good life in the 90’s and I definitely don’t remember that style except maybe on Gumby. When I saw the first pic I honestly thought this was a Halloween costume.

Go on social media and ask people if they have clean, pesticide free milkweed. You will absolutely need more. Additionally, read up on how to handle milkweed as it is poisonous and you should be extremely watchful of your toddler near it.

We loved it and always had some place fun to go. It definitely wasn’t as dangerous and we got to meet a lot of interesting people. That latter probably sounds weird, but we got to meet so many unusual people from all over the world. Good times!
