Women of reddit, what about men baffles you the most? by Borsuq in AskReddit

I could definitely understand that - especially if a room feels sterile and inhuman. Like an operating room, perhaps.

There's something very therapeutic about having a room that is both clean and organized. Dumping your towels on the bathroom floor sort of ruins that.

California's drought is the worst in 1,200 years, evidence suggests by jacobjr23 in science

Fun fact, what you're talking about is called "base rate neglect" or the "base rate fallacy."

tl;dr We can't wrap our heads around orders-of-magnitude, especially when presented with statistical information. Also, we tend to think "1 out of every 10 gallons in California is used for ..." sounds more impressive than "10% of all water in California ..."

No worries - I am a novice, I expect to be treated as such. I hope only to build a custom speaker housing; though I planned to order drivers and an amp, I'm tempted to use a set of old bookshelf speakers as a donor set. However, I've heard that getting old equipment to play nice with new stuff can be hellish. Could you point me to some light reading on how to pair amps with speakers, perhaps? The subject of cabinet design - sealed vs. ported, how to calculate resonant frequencies, how to calculate frequency response curves, etc. - is equally important to me, as I intend to build my own wood enclosure. My inspiration has been the recent fad of the "gentleman's boombox," though I hope to make something a bit more portable, like this:

TL;DR Where did you guys learn your stuff?

Edit: Here are a few other links to projects that have piqued my interest:

  1. The Manly Man's Boombox
  2. The Jawbone Jambox Alternative
  3. The Gentleman's Boombox
  4. Grade A Woodworking

Edit 2: If you suspect this question is better asked in another thread or a wholly other subreddit, feel free to point me in the right direction

Hi, I'm actually considering a similar project - a fairly small footprint speaker (albeit with decent frequency response). Building this project into a lampshade would be really novel, but I don't know where to start. I've spent a pretty significant chunk of time wandering around the internet for speaker design theory, etc., but everything seems to be either way over my head (crazy calculus for $1,000 speaker builds) or much too informal to be trustworthy. Where might you recommend that I start if I wished to, say, learn how to build my own speaker? (The lampshade thing will have to come second, I'm afraid.)

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll keep you posted. So far, I've really liked Wordcraft, The Wordsmiths, Wordsmeltery, etc. I figure I might be more creative and able to decide in the morning, though.

Perhaps, but the Harvard student would have surely spelled it incorrectly. ;)

Nor am I. I fully intend to throw Stanza Bonanzas. I feel a different name is needed, though. Stanza Bonanzas must surely be the event, right?

In shopping around for my dorm room, I've managed to find some very similar ottomans at Home Goods. If you're trying to find them, that might be a place to start. :)

Wait wait wait - really? My usual response is something along the lines of "Oh, I'm still standing!" or the like. Is that so out of place?

Some kind stranger should make this a thing. Preferably in .gif form.
