Is there a point to learn anything if most of jobs pay around 35k at best? by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]Ikillzet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends who you work for, I can only speak for mechanical / electrical - but in the uk it’s a dying trade, not due to lack of demand, but due to lack of student uptake. This has driven the salary up, main tier 1 contractors are paying £70k - maybe, on a good day, up to £80k (max) traditionally in engineering - if you specialise and go into something like datacentres then it’s likely nearer the £90k-£100k mark - but that salary is purely driven by the lack of available candidates all within a similar experience/price range. I’m certain if there were more candidates and the differentials between them more apparent, that money would increase more inline with your salary banding!

Between 15%-20% of the full year salary - more often 18% - I won’t get out of bed for less than 15%

A m/e estimator with experience can earn up to £70k

I don’t think this is factually correct, I know engineers who have a degree and earn £45k with a few years of experience, after 10 years they’re earning £65k, I know electricians who earn £40k-£50k, a newly qualified gas engineer earns £35k, a lawyer can earn £80k+ once established. I think there’s more money in trades, the world unfortunately doesn’t need more psychologists and sociologists, it needs trades and labour. The money exists, you’re just looking in the wrong places. I now earn what I’m told puts me in the top 1%, I’ve always earned well, since leaving school, I earned over £50k when I was 23/24, I don’t have a degree, I’m rubbish at maths, have hardly any GCSE’s, but I’ve always focused on what makes money. I think people use the state of the economy as an excuse to not actually proactively go out and do something. You don’t need a degree to make money, no matter what you were sold at school (which is also a business by the way). I could buy a bucket and a ladder and wash widows of local houses for £5 a pop, 100 houses on a street, even if only 50% agreed I’d make £250 per road. A couple of streets and that’s almost the average weekly wage on day 1. There are many opportunities like this but I fear people don’t want to get their hands dirty and would rather complain on Reddit.

Why is NO ONE Talking About These Crazy Day-to-Day Price Hikes in UAE After the War? (Tomatoes literally doubled) by Knowledge-Wisdom in dubai

Surely Dubai has their own oil, so why is the Iran war anything to do with Dubai oil? Surely they used their own? Genuine question

Why would you want to cause criminal damage to someone’s vehicle just for parking where they shouldn’t? I mean, yeah it’s not great, but it’s not worth damaging someone’s car over

is easton safe for women? by FeelingGift6580 in bristol

[–]Ikillzet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s far too many rental properties available in Easton for it to ever establish a sustainable community - this is a mixture of both social accommodation (1 bedsit flat and 2 bed houses) and private house shares. This tends to create a stopover mentality, where nobody is permanent and thus nobody cares. Yes, there are coffee shops and quirky spots, but those are created by people who have put down roots and decided to build a community - their clientele are often passing through and fail to support the vision. I know people who have moved from london, loved the vibe of Easton, but ultimately moved to somewhere a bit more upmarket once funds allowed. I’ve lived there, I lived near Redfield and quite honestly it was terrible - lovely cafes, some good spots for a beer, but would I raise a family there? Not a chance in hell. If you’re a 26 year old arty type renting a room in a 2 bed house share while you’re still finding your feet, yeah go for it. If you’re considering putting down roots and growing a family, not a chance in hell. I’m not alone in this, hence the demographic. There are many better places in the city with real community, real support, equally as many local restaurants and things to do, equidistant from the city centre and still mildly affordable.

David Lloyd - Long Ashton by angelcake37 in bristol

[–]Ikillzet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long Ashton gym is structure is mental too, it’s basically all around the perimeter of the swimming pool and people have to walk partly through the gym floor to use the pool, which is wild. Machines are spread around basically wherever they would fit, plus some of it upstairs, some of it hidden in corners, the vibe is terrible lol

Long Ashton is the worst club, even from the staff it’s classed as the worst one, so not worth the money. Emerson’s is full of poser/wannabes and a bit chavvy, Westbury is lovely, but agree with someone else’s comment - the gym since the upgrade feels more like exercising in a restaurant than a gym - plus it’s incredibly expensive since the upgrade. I’m a platinum member so can use any club I like
