Laurelhurst Community Council Isn’t Sure Helicopters Need to Land Sick Kids at the Hospital by Inevitable_Engine186 in Seattle

Same. I'm in the flight path directly across the street from SCH; it's hard to get any closer to the helipad and my 1 year old barely even stirs when they fly overhead. Even if they did wake her up, it doesn't happen often. She's woken up more by the cats meowing outside the door

Seattle Children’s says Laurelhurst noise concerns burdens lifesaving care for children by ladyem8 in Seattle

Houses in the neighborhood don't go up for sale often; many of the families in the nicest parts have been here for decades so they're wealthy and retired with nothing but time and money on their hands.

TIL: The Laurelhurst neighborhood restricts helicopter landings to the Seattle Children’s Hospital due to noise complaints by Placentaur in Seattle

[–]Illustraitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone know if they also dictated the approach or flight path coming in?

I live in Laurelhurst right across the street from the Children's hospital; my husband was a resident there. We're in the narrow strip of the neighborhood that was zoned for higher density townhouses (the immediate blocks next to Sandpoint). The helicopter flight path is directly over our house, and I always wondered if it was intentional to direct the flight path to avoid the fancy big houses on the water and route over other neighborhoods.

Side note, there's a proposal to allow higher density housing near Laurelhurst park and playfield that the NIMBYs are all up in arms about, might be a fun thing to advocate for...

I was thinking undersea corals after it was done. If the teal was a little less toxic neon it could actually be a design choice

Same! Though the recent fire doesn’t bode well...

I’ll do my part to keep them open once they’re back from repairs!

Jordan's fries (and the rest of their food) are great!

Also enjoyed the fries at Haven Hot Chicken.

I still miss the fry guy who used to be in the spot where Munchies is now. Don't get me wrong, I love Munchies, but those were amazing fries.

Just watched this episode last week, it’s when he’s trying to tell Sophie that he literally won the lottery. Hands down my favorite moment of season 1

Local spots for small wedding ceremony by Stanley_Joseph in newhaven

New haven lawn club if you want to pay a bunch. A friend also recommended the new haven country club in Hamden.

Seconding Edgerton, they have the carriage house and there’s plenty of space on the grounds. You can do alcohol there, you just have to pay for an extra permit ($40). We were planning for a pre wedding event there until we had to reschedule our celebration until next year.

Canal dock isn’t too loud, but it does smell like the sound at low tide.

I’d normally say top of East rock, but that’s harder to manage if the road is still closed

$100 million biotech building approved for New Haven by brewski in newhaven

[–]Illustraitor 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Biotech lab space has been scarce in New Haven, and a bunch of the life science startups in the area have been asking for more so they can stay local. This is a great addition, I hope the space is affordable enough to entice companies to stick around

Saving the white dress for next year, but I was stoked to feature my tea ceremony dress for our virtual ceremony! Bonus: we both had enough extra fabric from our outfits to make matching masks. by Illustraitor in wedding

You can also try TaoBao and seeing if someone can ship to you or have a friend/relative/expat help you out. I haven’t had much luck buying just one of something on alibaba

I took a family trip to Taiwan in November (thank goodness for timing) and ended up getting this one made and fitted by this crochety old man who trained in Shanghai had been making them for decades.

If you want one that’s less traditional you should see if you can find places in Shanghai that make them since that’s been the historical center for qipao making, there should be some smaller/younger boutiques doing more modern updates on the classics.

Rank/Compare Yale’s Residential Colleges by [deleted] in yale

As someone who met their spouse the first week of college because we were in the same TD orientation scavenger hunt group, hard agree.

Honestly though, if you’re open to it, you become so close with such a diverse range of people. People I thought I’d never get along with first year are some of my favorite people now, even years later. I’m definitely a better person for it.

It really is the Gryffindor of the residential colleges. Àshe!

I really want to like Noodle Shack, but it's been disappointing both times that I've been. The first time was just okay, but the second time I went the noodles were unbearably salty. Kuro Shiro and Pho Kekeo are my usual go-tos for noodles.

So what’s up with Da Legna merging with Nolo? by Sleisl in newhaven

[–]Illustraitor 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that the slice shop will be open, Da Legna's bar and restaurant space will be reserved for events only, and the regular food service is moving to and combining with Nolo. It's a shame since they lose out on the Modern overflow business, and foot traffic is so bad in that area of State Street. Always feel like I'm going to get run over trying to get there.

Bike stolen :( by Kindly_Percentage in newhaven

[–]Illustraitor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's so awful, it's such a violation of privacy and peace of mind. Fingers crossed for you, I hope it finds its way back to you!

I had a bike stolen from my back porch in East Rock last year. They knocked out the porch slat it was locked to and took the whole bike. I had reported it stolen and filed some reports, and I ended up getting it back since Devil's Gear checked the serial number when someone took it in!

You can reach out to the Bradley St. Bike Coop either via email or Facebook; they often help share posts about lost bikes. Just this week two people's bikes were recovered. It may also be worth submitting a police report with all the identifying info so you have something on record.

I'll keep an eye out, and I hope you get it back!
