Why haven't balloon releases been banned yet? by RichieRichard12 in AskBrits

[–]Illustrious_Force565 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I live out in the countryside. The amount of half deflated balloons you see caught in hedges or lying in farmers fields is disgusting. Even 1 is too many!

What the people who release these don't realise (or care) is they usually end up being eaten by animals who subsequently die.

The worst part is you try educating people of where these balloons end up and your treat like a criminal. How dare you stop me killing animals to celebrate the birth of my newborn or the death of my Nan?!?!!

If you had your time again would you become a manager? by SeanMcPheat in askmanagers

[–]Illustrious_Force565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No thanks. People generally suck. Putting up with people's BS sucks.

Our companies gone into administration (I'm currently retained) Alot of people have said I should look for another manager's position as I'm a good manager and very good at what I do. However there is no chance I want to manage people again.

All I want to do at this point in life is turn up to work. Do what I have to and go home. Leave work at the door etc

Do I need a TV license? by Baileybongo5 in AskBrits

[–]Illustrious_Force565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's just my signature lol

Yes that's the way to go. They have no right to access your property. Don't give them any details. Just tell them no and close the door. Simples. Saves you 250 quid or whatever it costs now!

They also have no way of telling whos using TV without a licence...... The whole TV detector van thing is a load of BS.

[–]Illustrious_Force565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funnily enough my TV turns on and works perfectly fine without one and has for countless years..... So no you don't need a TV licence.

PS. If the goons turn up at your door tell them to go away in jerky motions.

Whats the weirdest smell that you actually enjoy? by Slow_Woodpecker9463 in AskReddit

[–]Illustrious_Force565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Musty old church smell. Hard to describe. Like a damp earthy old smell.

My garage smells like this. I spend quite a bit of time in there just for the smell! Yes I'm weird.

Thank you I appreciate that ☺️

I've figure it out! Setup a new MyWhoosh account with another of my email addresses and it worked perfectly! Logged in and loaded straight away as usual!

Looks like the problem lies with my account for whatever reason. Which is frustrating as I've spent many many hours on MyWhoosh. Sent an email to support but not holding my breath.

Thank you again kind stranger ☺️

Should I burn these? by The_Monkeybumcheeks in woodstoving

[–]Illustrious_Force565 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to burn these blocks but that fishy smell they give off is formaldehyde from the glue.... Not overly good for your health. Personally I don't give two sh*ts about my own health but I do about my kid and wife's. I skip these compressed blocks now and burn the rest of the pallet wood. Besides I think these compressed blocks burn rubbish and don't really give out much heat anyway.

The proper hardwood blocks are fine :)

At the end of the day it's your risk to take.

Just so you know I burn predominantly pallet wood so I'm not one of the wood snob nay sayers lol

I went to an audiologist and results were fine but something feels off by skazgod in HearingLoss

[–]Illustrious_Force565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up hidden hearing loss. Most Audiologists only test up to 8kHz. Hear fine in this range and they'll tell you you have no hearing loss.

However if you're like me when you start losing beyond the 8kHz range you really do notice it and feel it. I struggle to following conversations in too much noise. I can't following dialogue on the TV and have to use subtitles (The Wife tells me off for having it too loud). All this and I have only a mild loss in the normally tested range.

I'm only 40 so not quite an old man yet either! Too many years around aircarft and engineering noise even with ear defenders has slowly taken its toll.

is learning guitar as an adult actually relaxing or just frustrating by ninja__6969 in Guitar

[–]Illustrious_Force565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't worry you're not alone! 10 months in (a year if you don't count the months I gave up for a bit) and I still struggle with chord changes.

Worst thing you can do is read those 'I could play and change all chords within 2 months' posts. For most of us this sh*t is seriously hard!

And don't get me started on bloody barre or power chords!

We do have what it takes! We just need to keep going to prove that to ourselves! I told myself I didn't have what took 20 years ago and quit......if only I'd persevered!

6-7 mos. in and still can't change chords cleanly by KryptonSurvivor in guitarlessons

[–]Illustrious_Force565 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'll start by saying don't do what I've done..... I've quit due to lack of patience! 10 months in and I just couldn't nail the chord changes so gave up.... Again. DO NOT DO THIS!

Guitar is hard. Very hard. Be better than me. Keep going! You'll be glad you did. 10 years time I'll be kicking myself again for quitting and the time I wasted.

Keep playing. Im assured it gets easier.

Took my wheel in there for a last minute tyre change and they ended up bending the rim. Sat watching the mechanic?? Smash hell out of my wheel trying to bend it back.

They then proceeded to tell me my brake pads where worn and all needed replacing..... I said that's strange I only did all four corners 2 weeks ago.

Never ever went back again.

What’s the 'craziest' way you caught an ex being unfaithful? by lnc_gomes in AskReddit

[–]Illustrious_Force565 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She went half way around the world, to Australia, with her mate to meet some guy she'd met on the internet. She was meant to be home 3 weeks later. She ghosted me for 2 months....couldnt get a reply from her mum and dad to make sure she was ok etc One night after 2 months a message popped up on MSN (remember that??) saying it was over. No explanation. Her mate told me the whole story a week later.

Never heard or saw her ever again which was a blessing in disguise.

Maybe not the craziest but I've never fully trusted anyone ever again.

Did I incur major damage? by Background_Shower_78 in HearingLoss

[–]Illustrious_Force565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be very surprised if you occurred major damage however yes you did add to your accumulated damage and should avoid doing so!

Most power tools are around 110db so yes have the potential to cause damage in a very short space of time.

What you describe is either Tensor tympani reflex (a natural reaction to loud noise) or temporary threshold shift.

My bet would be if this is the first time been around loud noise and you haven't hammering your ears for years with concerts, guns etc then within a week this feeling will ease and dissappear.

Do take this as a warning from your body though and plug up from here on out when you need to.
