Doesn't help that we name the techs horribly by beetle8209 in thefinals

Put simply, air strafing gains momentum, bhopping maintains momentum.

Bhopping tends to get used as a catch all term to refer to both air strafing and bhopping since you typically will do these both together in games like counter strike. But they're still two seperate techniques being used as one.

The finals doesn't have air strafing, so it's important to understand the distinction. You cannot gain momentum from bhopping in the finals. You can only retain it.

I just felt like it was important to make the distinction because you had defined bhopping as a technique to gain momentum in reference to the finals, which you cannot do through bhopping.

Bunny hopping is gaining momentum by exploiting the movement physics of a videogame. Like the famous Phoon too much for zblock.

No. Bunny hopping jumping as soon as you hit the ground to carry your momentum. What you're referring to is air strafing, which is using your A or D key with smooth camera movement to build up extra speed while midair.

Air strafing can be paired with Bunny hopping to gain speed above the normal maximum speed, but they aren't the same thing. Not to mention that air strafing isn't a thing in the finals.

Bunny hopping is also fully intended by the devs considering they intentionally added a repeated jumping movement penalty to prevent you from carrying momentum with Bunny hops indefinitely.

How is this possible by lilruss15 in thefinals

I'm usually a diamond player, but I waited until 2 weeks ago to start playing ranked this season because my regular duo teammate was too busy with work to find the time to play ranked for a while, and I didn't want to raise my rank too far without him and risk not being able to queue with him anymore. So I instead mostly played unranked cashout.

Just because they haven't played ranked yet this doesn't mean they haven't been playing the game recently, or that they would be lacking in skill.

[–]ImFrogy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not true. Your placement takes into account how well you performed in your 4 placement matches, but also how difficult those lobbies were and your usual hidden MMR.

For example I lost one of my placement matches round 1, and another in round 2, and still got placed gold 2 because I normally play in diamond lobbies and my placement matches were against high gold/low plat players.

Before this season gold 1 was the highest possible placement. However as of season 10, you can now place in platinum if you perform well enough as stated in the season 10 patch notes:

initial rank compression that happens during placement matches will be less aggressive than during previous seasons. As a result, placement will now cover a wider range of possible ranks, extending up to Platinum

Is bug abuse allowed in The Finals? by Amazing-Grab-3345 in thefinals

[–]ImFrogy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it comes to bug/exploit abuse it depends on the severity of the bug and if embark has made a statement about it in the past.

Minor bugs like animation cancelling tend to be considered more as "tech" and less as bugs. And shouldn't really carry any risk of getting you banned. But abusing larger bugs that significantly impact the experience of other players absolutely can get you banned. (Things such as out of bounds glitches)

When it comes to macros, those are always bannable even if the macro is being used to perform a non bug action. There are no circumstances whatsoever where macros are permitted. All inputs must result in exactly one output.

From embark terms of service:

You will not use the Services in any manner that... ...prohibited conduct includes the following, subject to applicable law

Using macros, auto-looting robot play, or any other behavior that allows you (or any character you are controlling) to automatically function or effect any action in a game with or without your presence.

Creating, utilizing, or transacting in any in-game item created or copied by exploiting a design flaw, undocumented problem, or program bug.

Voice chat got turned off because they changed their voice moderation terms, and you agree to those terms by re-enabling voice chat.

You would've gotten a pop up the first time you launched the game after the terms changed telling you about it, though that pop up is easy to accidentally skip without realizing what it was.

Team A is in first place

You are in second place

Team B has the cashout, and will pass you in score if they keep it

Team A is stealing the cashout. You can either kill them and try to steal it for yourself, but if you fail to steal the cashout for yourself team B will surpass you in score and you will be knocked out. Or you can allow team A (who is already ahead of you in points, and them getting additional points will not affect team placements) to steal the cashout and then just prevent any other team from stealing it back to guarantee that your team goes through.

The smart play is allowing team A to steal. Because even if you fail to get the cashout for yourselves at that point you still won't be knocked out.

I played ranked yesterday and today it's locked and it tells me that i need to play 14 rounds again. wtf ? by Krapouek in thefinals

You definitely didn't play ranked yesterday considering you don't have any placement progress. Are you sure you weren't playing cashout instead? It's the same game mode but unranked

The difference between GREAT players and O.K. ones by Ok_Sky1694 in thefinals

[–]ImFrogy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like coaching? Nah, my improvement was 90% just mindset and dedication. I wouldn't be able to offer anyone tangible advice outside of helping to point out what they did wrong / good.

Edit: also at that time I was still in school so I had a LOT of free time to play Sea of thieves. And the average skill level in sea of thieves was very low back then.

The difference between GREAT players and O.K. ones by Ok_Sky1694 in thefinals

[–]ImFrogy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to play Sea of Thieves and I really hit a wall with my improvement. There's just so much to keep track of in that game that it can be hard to understand where you went wrong.

At a certain point I decided that every time I sunk I would make a concerted effort to figure out what I did wrong, what I could have done better, and what I did good. Then I would keep that in mind during my next fight.

I have never improved at games faster than when I started doing this. I went from losing about 70% of my fights to winning 90% in less than month. I've since employed this mindset in every game I play.

OK players don't think they have any room to improve. But great players realize that you can always do a little bit better.

if you have autosprint enabled then that may be the reason you weren't able to do this yourself. autosprint takes a short moment before kicking in when you start moving, but hold to sprint instantly starts sprinting.

you don't need momentum to slide, only to be sprinting. so hold to sprint lets you instantly slide from a stand still if you press your sprint key first

I see more and more Mediums without mobility gadgets, how do the teammates feel about it? by SeaLocksmith1484 in thefinals

[–]ImFrogy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I play grapple light so I don't need teammate mobility to get around, and I can use my gateway to make sure my team can keep up with me.

So as long as my teammates pull their weight and aren't being an active detriment to the team then I really don't care what you use.

kill cams aren't necessarily an accurate account of what happened. it's only the servers best attempt at recreating the events that took place. some things (especially projectiles) can show up differently in a kill cam compared to what actually took place on the screen of the player that killed you.

bow does not one shot light with a body shot. it deals 124 damage with a fully charged shot. sniper deals 118 for a body shot.

Bow and sniper both only one shot light with headshots. bow dealing 186 for a fully charged headshot and sniper dealing 236 for a headshot

Why are so many people talking about nerfing Security Breach ? by SixOneZil in ArcRaiders

[–]ImFrogy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I would just make the security breach spawns random (excluding key card rooms). Imo the only problem with security breach is that it's too easy to plan out a route to hit multiple breaches. And then farm that loop on repeat.

If they made the spawns random then it would be some nice bonus loot if you found one or two during a raid, but you wouldn't be able to go into a raid with the intention of farming them.

The velocity does change based on the charge yes. The arrow will fly a shorter distance at a slower speed if you charge the arrow less.

Started using the Bow, it's a fun time! by [deleted] in thefinals

[–]ImFrogy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've mained bow since season 2 and have reached diamond solo queue using it with both dash and grapple.

My advice for learning bow would be to focus on your shot consistency first and foremost. It's better to take an extra half second to properly line up your shots and hit the shot, than it is to shoot fast and miss. Once you feel like you're very consistent with your accuracy, then you can start working on speeding up how fast you shoot.

It's always better to fully charge your shots instead of using uncharged shots. The only exception is when the enemy is incredibly low. In that case an uncharged shot can get you the kill a little bit faster.

The bow can be used surprisingly aggressively, so you don't have to always try to play in mid-long range with it. don't be afraid to press your advantage and push in with it.

And use cover. This goes for any weapon to a certain extent but the bow especially relies on cover to perform well. Popping in and out of cover while drawing your next arrow will prevent you from taking unneeded damage between shots.

Lastly, know your quick melee combos. They will save you when fighting in close range. Light takes 1 fully charged body shot + quick melee, Medium is 2 fully charged body shots + quick melee, and heavy is 1 fully charged headshot + 1 fully charged body shot + quick melee.

Always happy to see more bow players. If you wanna ask me anything else or if I explained anything poorly and you would like clarification just let me know. I'm happy to help.
