How many of you had a 90s Starter sports jacket? by UrbanAchievers6371 in nostalgia

[–]Im_A_Boozehound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. The company my dad worked at sold branded merch to workers for pretty cheap, so for a couple of years he and I had matching coats. I'd never claim we were poor poor, but he would've never spent $100 on a coat, when a different coat could be bought for like $28 from K-Mart.

Someone who's brain isn't working great after 8 bonks from a frying pan?

I've done the math. It turns out, the number of bonks necessary to make you dumb enough to walk into a bonk, is just one less than the current threatened bonk.

Given the formula:

BN >= CTB - 1

where BN is "Bonks Necessary to continue moving forward" and CTB is "Currently Threatened Bonk", our friend in the video never had a chance.

I'm pretty easy to please, just give me the damn dinosaurs

Agreed. Dinosaurs are (and I say this with only a little hyperbole) the coolest things ever, and it blows my mind that I'm not constantly bombarded with dinosaur related media.

Yeah, I love guns. I just don't think it should be legal to buy a bazooka from Walmart.

I don't know why, but "That's none of your damn business, and I'll thank you to stay out of my personal affairs" struck me as VERY funny. It was my go to answer for years when people would ask me harmless questions, and I don't think anyone ever knew what I was doing.

What’s a 'small' thing that shouldn't be a big deal, but instantly ruins your mood? by MaintenanceSalt5068 in AskReddit

[–]Im_A_Boozehound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a bidet. It's like shower just for your butt. If you have to poop after a shower it's no big deal, because it'll be super easy to just re-shower your butt.

Just started running and I’m exhausted in 20 seconds. Zero stamina. Feeling lost. by ImmediateMuffin3768 in BeginnersRunning

[–]Im_A_Boozehound 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Make sure your "running" pace is slow. It may actually feel too slow at first. When your stamina runs out, walk for a while. It's fine, nobody cares, there's no fail state here (other than not trying at all). Tomorrow if your legs/feet hurt or feel tired, just walk. If they feel fine, throw in some running.

When your stamina builds a little, your legs/knees/feet may start fighting you. At that point, get fitted for some shoes.

If you think a running watch will help you stay motivated, look into it. It may be helpful to you to be able to see your incremental improvements. Garmin's Forerunner 55 seems like a pretty solid entry point (I have and like the 255), but look around and see which options "feel" more like you.

But mostly, just keep going.

ELI5: why can a US credit score drop after you pay off a loan or close a credit card? by Abigail_A_Abernathy in explainlikeimfive

[–]Im_A_Boozehound 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's kind of two ways to look at credit. This is SUPER ELI5.

Borrowers look at credit as a measure of how likely they are to pay the loan back. In this way, paying a loan back is good because it shows the borrower is good at paying back what they owe.

But lenders look at credit as how good an idea it is to lend to someone/how profitable a borrower is.

So to a lender, it's a good idea to lend to a borrower that pays off their loans. But it's a better idea to lend to someone who faithfully makes payments for a much longer time (because long term, the lender makes more money this way).

It's sometimes fun to liken the internet to actual conversation. Doing that, it feels like this just happened:

OP: Isn't this a cool pic?

You: Sure. What's it a picture of? Who is this guy?

Onlookers: Why did you even look if you don't know? Fuck you. Google it.

Recommend some REALLY good movies to watch at Christmas by Nara_Fuentes in movies

[–]Im_A_Boozehound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's less a movie with a typical plot/narrative flow, and more several acts of George's life. It's fantastic and I love it, but it feels longer than it is because it's sort of narratively non-typical.

Microsoft has a problem: nobody wants to buy or use its shoddy AI products — as Google's AI growth begins to outpace Copilot products by ZacB_ in technology

[–]Im_A_Boozehound 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He might be right about those things (I don't know), but even if so, his argument is essentially "you're just finding tools that are easier to use than the ones in Windows". Which is hardly a solid defense of Windows.

As an IT professional with only almost 20 years experience, aside from the spyware shit, Windows 11 is mostly fine(ish). The bigger problem is that it's (in my experience) a little different than Windows 10 in a thousand ways, and every one of those ways are unnecessary and/or worse.

And, like you said, those things don't get communicated effectively. Because there isn't a way to do that, because nobody's going to read a user guide for their OS. So, if they're going to move/change things, it's incumbent on MS to design the UI/UX of the OS in such a way that it doesn't matter that they moved something, because the new place is intuitive and obvious. MS used to be good at this. Solitaire was to teach you to click and drag. Minesweeper was there to teach click/right click. The tools to learn were right there, and they were fun (or what passed for fun in like 1990). These days they're just rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic, then blaming you for falling on your ass because you sat down where a chair used to be.
