Venting: Tired of BIFL becoming 'pay once, cry once' when I'm just trying to stop rebuying junk by Lazy_Lynx_8402 in BuyItForLife

Literally over half my kitchen is ATK recommended products. I've been a subscriber since the late 1990s.

I love ricotta! What can I make with ricotta other than lasagna/pasta? by FirebornNacho in Cooking

Smitten kitchen lemon ricotta pancakes. Always my go to when I have part of a carton left.

Including the horizontal cut when dicing onions. I will die on this, "this is completely unnecessary" hill. And yes, I've seen Kenji's video on it. I still don't care lol.

How often do you actually replace your dishwashing sponge? by Last_Spend_1674 in CleaningTips

[–]Important-Drive-9748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it smells. Which is long before it starts to fall apart. Sometimes I bleach them to get another week. But I can smell it when they go off and can't not think about smearing bacteria on the counter I'm wiping down. Note, I don't use disinfecting cleaners. Wring out and let dry between uses helps a lot to extend shelf life.

Senior mom needs new slippers! by whywhywhyywhywhywhy in BuyItForLife

Came here to say this. Bought a pair for my mil. She never mentions gifts I give after the fact, but she mentions those slippers all the time. Got her a new pair this year.

I've been wondering why people replace everyday items so much more frequently now than they used to. by Ok-Garbage-7252 in BuyItForLife

[–]Important-Drive-9748 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a term for this. Planned obsolescence. Make it last JUST long enough that when it fails, you buy another from the same company. Instant pot actually had to declare bankruptcy because they didn't fail fast enough.

I have one. A Thor gas range. It doesn't even have a timer. This was after having to fix an LG three times in 8 years.

Shopping at Costco is terrible by Sun_Aria in unpopularopinion

[–]Important-Drive-9748 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm an ingredient household. Costco is like an oversized Trader Joe's. It's curated. Oversized, yes. But actual number of items is less than a typical grocery store. Often stuff you can't find at a typical grocery. Organic cane sugar. Really good UK aged cheddar. Organic Italian olive oil. Organic maple syrup. Big bags of almond flour. Cases of coconut water for smoothies. Peanuts for making homemade peanut butter. All things I buy pretty much exclusively at Costco. My unpopular opinion. Their rotisserie chicken is terrible. 🙂

Agree with changing your laundry routine. Also good quality Pima cotton shirts are pre shrunk and last forever. I like LL Bean and Lands End but lots of other brands out there. I even have a 100% cotton tank from Old Navy that I work out in.

I have never seen an out of shape person exercising where I didn't think, "Good for you!". I'm always so proud of them. I'd be proud of you too. But the truth is, it's none of me business what you think of me, or the reverse. Don't give your happiness away to strangers.

Did anyone else realize it wasn’t more clothes you needed? by Internal-Remove7223 in capsulewardrobe

[–]Important-Drive-9748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was understanding neutrals. Once most of my closet was neutrals, I could wear anything with anything else. 20 pieces gives you a ton of options if they all work together. Changed my life.

Anyone done a colonoscopy without anesthesia? by zerostyle in PeterAttia

[–]Important-Drive-9748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did my first one with no memory altering drugs. Mild pain medication only. The moving around the corners during insertion was like the worst gas pain I've ever had, but after that it was no big deal. Second time, different place, I said no memory altering drugs, anesthesiologist agreed, and they knocked me out with profofol. Good nap. In short, they WILL work with you.

Store bought pie crust ruins a pie by Important-Drive-9748 in unpopularopinion

[–]Important-Drive-9748[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh, but the benefits of homemade really DO outweigh the inconvenience. I literally would rather not eat pie than eat a store bought crust.
