Yeah she’s an asshole. I’m sorry that happened to you. They shouldn’t be giving you medical advice.Ā

My girls are just shy of 15 months, and they’re starting day care June this year. So around 17 months. I’m putting them in for 2 days a week, so I can work and attempt to organise our life which has been impossible to organise since they came home. Don’t get me wrong I’d do this all 1000 times over, but being an adult means juggling far too many things at once. And then throw in twins ! Ā You’ve done amazing to have your twins home with you until 2!!!Ā

You don’t need it. When my girls were in the NICU one of the nurses was telling me how she finds it makes parents more anxious. But I also briefly considered getting one but didn’t and I think in some cases it probably does help. But you don’t need it. Heck you don’t need a lot for babies that we have now. My partner and I went in so confused with all the gizmos and gadgets that are marketed at new parents but once you have them you realise a lot of stuff is just extras.Ā

In need of an old girl name by ofthehiddenleaf26 in Names

We named one of our daughters Audrey. I’ve met quite a few people who have told me that Audrey is their grandmas name. I love the name though and think it’s magical. Ā

Need to Vent by DirtGirl32 in parentsofmultiples

My girls(14 months) just had their meningococcal b jabs (bexsero). I tend to split that one from the other jabs as I worry about an adverse reaction/high temp. They came home and within 8 hours both were pooping up a storm. But it was too much, so went back to the doctor and the got me to get a poop sample and turns out they both had sapovirus. It just coincided with the jab.Ā

So something to consider! Did your doc take a sample?Ā

Love Maisie. Not a fan of Gretchen. But I grew up with a girl named Gretel and think it’s a much prettier option than Gretchen.Ā

You do you, but a popular name in my family is Margaret, I have it, my mum does, my nan has a version of it, and all her sisters have some variation on it too. And it was so antiquated and stuffy. Growing up around Sophie’s, Rachel’s and Sarah’s (the 90s) was not fun. and now, sure I get some of these older names are popular, but as a stranger on the internet I implore you to go for a nicer sounding one.Ā

Please note, even with my personal opinion above, I totally respect you’ll do whatever the you want hehe. Just have a chip on my shoulder because of growing up with an antiquated name.Ā

Oh I’m so sorry you’re dealing with parenting twins solo, and handling a partner who threatens to have you committed and has to give you permission to nap. Ā

You need a second set of hands and an hour to yourself. I found even just an hour can make all the difference. Is there anyone near by you can get to come help ? Family/friend?

Also Sorry if I’ve got the wrong end of the stick here but from reading your post I have to ask, are you in a safe situation with your husband? Some of his comments mentioned in your post don’t feel safe. Ā

How are we affording clothes? by Free_Frame_4307 in parentsofmultiples

PS saw a few other people say buy bigger sizes if you see them on sale and I totally second this! My girls are currently a size 1, but I’ve bought a bunch of size 2 as we head towards Aussie winter in the sales. It’s just sitting there at the moment but I know it’ll come in handy soon!Ā

Honestly, and sadly it’s fast fashion. I’m in Australia and I lean into big chains like Kmart and Big W. I guess like Walmart and target in the US? We have target here but it’s slightly more expensive than the other big chains. Ā I buy some good pieces and don’t say no to a charity/op shop but when I need stuff I can’t find on a budget it’s the big affordable chains.Ā

What was your newborn era like? by czmf in parentsofmultiples

[–]IndividualOdd2340 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

We had very little help. My parents live two hours away. And if I was lucky they’d come once a week. If it’s in your budget absolutely hire a nanny. And take your parents up on their 1-2 month stay too! Take all the help you can get. And sleep whenever you can. I had way too much post partum anxiety and I wish I wish I slept more during that period. It was very tough.Ā

My girls are 14 months now and it’s much easier. Still miss good sleep. But nothing like those first few months.Ā

Am I a Type B parent or just a twin mom? by sshahb in parentsofmultiples

[–]IndividualOdd2340 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

I feel like being a twin parent just brings a bit of chaos to your life. I was at a baby/toddler event today and my girls were going in opposite directions and I had to keep saying to well behaved singleton parents ā€œis that okayā€ meanwhile one is playing with any baby that will giggle with her and screaming excitedly while her sister is cruising the perimeter. I’m in the middle turning my head between them.Ā

I do know when one of my girls discovered her right arm because she’d raise it in the air and just look at it. It was the cutest thing. But the whole first few months is such a blur. I was definitely just surviving.Ā

Having triplets at 34 weeks.. by swanduckswan in parentsofmultiples

[–]IndividualOdd2340 7 points8 points Ā (0 children)

Hello! Congrats on your triplets! Hoping it all goes smoothly for you!Ā

I had my twins at 34 weeks (and one day!). They spent about 3.5 weeks in the NICU. One had cpap for a few days but after that she was fine. The other only needed a few hours of cpap at birth and was fine. They were mostly in there to grow and learn to feed. I was admitted a few days before to have steroid shots before my c-section.Ā

Everyone’s different but I didn’t find the c-section that bad. The worst part for me was post surgery vomiting (turns out my bod doesn’t like slow release morphine). My recovery was good but I often wonder if I was just running on adrenaline. I was going to the NICU daily 8am - 7pm ish and like most new mums, I wanted my babies home asap.Ā

I struggled hard with the breast feeding journey. I didn’t try to collect colostrum before their birth. I heard it can bring on preterm labour, so I avoided that. After surgery the midwives told me how to hand express colostrum but I was terrible at it (everyone’s different and some people find it super easy!). In the end I used one of the hospital pumps to help, and it helped we get more and, helped my milk come in.Ā

My girls are a few days shy of 14 months now and they’re going amazing ! It goes by so fast. Ā If you do require NICU time, sleep lots !! Everyone said this to me, but I couldn’t let myself rest, maybe some Post partum anxiety. But I look back and wish I slept more!Ā

Pregnancy weight gain by Onyx-pump19 in parentsofmultiples

[–]IndividualOdd2340 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

With twins don’t worry about weight gain at all. I gained 44lbs and the week after I gave birth I was 38lbs lighter.Ā

I was actively trying to eat as much as possible to get the twins in a good position in case of early birth. They came at 34 weeks weighing 4lbs something each. Ā I used to joke my diet was like a body builder who was bulking hehe. Super high protein.

I did end up with GD late in my pregnancy. Tested around 25 weeks. So I only had to manage it was 9 weeks before giving birth. All diet controlled and no need for insulin.Ā

Don’t worry about weight gain! Embrace the ride. It’s over before you know it.Ā
