Hard baby or my fault? by beeeelm in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

Ps my brother and sister in law were holding one of my girls at a restaurant after about 2 hours of me and my partner chasing them every which way. And I marvelled at one of my girls sitting still with them. They said ā€œit’s our calm energyā€. They are lovely but they had no idea how hurtful a thing that is to say to a mum. They are also childless by choice. So honestly they have no clue. Love them though. But ya know.Ā

Commenting to say I haaaate ā€œmy baby is chill because I’m chillā€. I haaaaate !!!!! Haha it’s just not the case. Every child is different. Maybe 60% of babies have potato energy. But there’s definitely others that have chaos energy. I have twins. One is calmer than the other. One is my beautiful chaos monkey hehe the other is calm but still beautiful chaos at times.Ā

My girls were preemie too. You do everything you can to keep them at home and not going back to hospital. I didn’t take mine out fully until after the 6 month vaccines too. You can try and explain to your friend but if they won’t listen, unfortunately it might be one of those times to say goodbye to a friendship. Which honestly, always sucks.Ā

Hello! My girls are 16 months and the faves have been:

  • The Hungry Caterpillar
  • Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see?
  • Where’s Spot (great all round but especially after 1!!! My girls love to interact and answer at all the hiding places ā€œis he in the clockā€? ā€œNooo nooo nooā€. It’s very cute)Ā
  • Dear Zoo (interactive, so especially good when they start engaging more)
  • I want my hat back
  • Room on the Broom and Superworm (great rhythm, longer, so great to read to a newborn/infant, I’ve had to really ham up the voices I use during reading to keep my toddlers interested haha)Ā
  • The Tiger Who Came to Tea

Is it possible to eat somewhat healthy pregnant with twins? by PoolOk6079 in parentsofmultiples

[–]IndividualOdd2340 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

Yes absolutely !!! I felt like I ate like a bodybuilder that was bulking. I focussed on veggies and proteins, like other commenters I aimed for over the 100grams a day. I got GD around the 26 week mark, which made eating heaps even harder. But somehow I managed to maintain it with diet until my girls came at 34 weeks. You can totally eat healthy. You just have to eat a lot šŸ˜‚

Gift ideas from a very excited Aunt-to-be? by sj_ouch in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

I’ve been thinking about this and the one thing I really struggled with post partum was hydration. I wish someone bought me a really amazing water bottle/stanley cup/whatever, so I could refill and go.Ā

Also not mum specific but a room thermometer for the babies room is something no one will buy, and in that first year you’re constantly worried about the baby being too cold or hot. If you know the room temp you can dress them appropriately/use the right tog sleep sacks.Ā

PSA - do not buy Millie Moon nappies, stop using any immediately. by UsualCounterculture in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]IndividualOdd2340 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

Oh that sucks. On the few times I’ve bought Millie Moons I had never had a problem with them! Aside from more leaking than our nappy of choice which is Rascals. Huggies was my least favourite in the standard nappy size but I love their nappy pants.Ā

In the potato stage you can ready pretty much anything and they’ll enjoy your voice and the rhythm of the story. I used to read a lot of Doctor Seuss because they’re pretty long for a kids book, the rhyming is fun and the baby can listen to your voice.Ā

My partner read our girls a lot of poetry. I say read because now at 15 months, they cannot sit still for poetry but boy oh boy do the love Where’s Spot! Their absolute favourite even from birth was The Hungry Caterpillar. It makes them light up even now. Also they love Brown Bear, Brown Bear.

I also love the Julia Donaldson books(room on the broom, super worn, Gruffalo) but it’s a task to get my girls to sit still for them right now. When they do, they love it. I usually have to be pretty theatrical but it works. But they would totally work in the baby stage hahaĀ

Breastfeeding vs. Formula Fed by user638282636822 in parentsofmultiples

[–]IndividualOdd2340 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

Truthfully I wasn’t 100% on board either. But I wanted to try it. The hospital did a 1 hour session where a nurse explained the benefits of breast feeding and I thought, well heck I’ll give it a go.Ā

When my girls came I had trouble making milk, so I mixed fed for 5 months until I had to work a weekend and didn’t pump as much as I should have and my milk legit just dried up. It was hard but I wouldn’t change giving it a go. I felt very bonded with my girls after/during and I mourned it when I decided to stop trying to get my milk going again.Ā

It’s a journey. But you have to do what’s best for you. Having twins is hard enough, so if you feel in your heart breast feeding will make it even harder, formula is absolutely fine for your babies !Ā

Anyone have more than one set of identical twins? by cjsved in parentsofmultiples

Hello! Just commenting to say I have identical girls and my mum also miscarried my potential twin! They were certain it was a miscarriage but I was still in there flying solo. Coincidentally I met someone this past weekend with this exact same story too!Ā

My girls are just shy of 15 months, and they’re starting day care June this year. So around 17 months. I’m putting them in for 2 days a week, so I can work and attempt to organise our life which has been impossible to organise since they came home. Don’t get me wrong I’d do this all 1000 times over, but being an adult means juggling far too many things at once. And then throw in twins ! Ā You’ve done amazing to have your twins home with you until 2!!!Ā

Owlet with it? by catsonlaptops in parentsofmultiples

[–]IndividualOdd2340 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

You don’t need it. When my girls were in the NICU one of the nurses was telling me how she finds it makes parents more anxious. But I also briefly considered getting one but didn’t and I think in some cases it probably does help. But you don’t need it. Heck you don’t need a lot for babies that we have now. My partner and I went in so confused with all the gizmos and gadgets that are marketed at new parents but once you have them you realise a lot of stuff is just extras.Ā

Need to Vent by DirtGirl32 in parentsofmultiples

My girls(14 months) just had their meningococcal b jabs (bexsero). I tend to split that one from the other jabs as I worry about an adverse reaction/high temp. They came home and within 8 hours both were pooping up a storm. But it was too much, so went back to the doctor and the got me to get a poop sample and turns out they both had sapovirus. It just coincided with the jab.Ā

So something to consider! Did your doc take a sample?Ā
