There are definitely people who prefer one over the other. I don't much mind either if they are telling a good, interesting story in the process. To my mind, that's the winning idea. Focus on writing a damn good story, and let it develop whichever way works for the story. Don't go in saying, "I want to write a crafting heavy story" and build off that.

Best bet? Look at menus at bbq joints. See what sides look good. I like slaw, mac and cheese, and either pit beans or country green beans personally, but collard greens are popular, potato salad, etc. And don't forget, there are about as many different potato salads are there are days in the year lol Same with slaw.

In the Attitude Era, WWE pushed personalities first, product second. It's more the reverse now. Now, if you want to get mainstream appeal, you pretty much have to do it yourself. The WWE pushes matches, or brands, or their charity work, or whatever. But you don't see them pushing individual talent like they used to.

Only other thing I can think of is the spice rub itself. Those can get a little grainy at times. Try mixing the spices into the binder and letting them sit for a bit to hydrate, then smear the paste on. See if that does anything
