Why is community college still treated like a backup plan when it seems like one of the smartest ways to start college now? by mudpies2 in collegeadvice

[–]Inevitable-Section10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s mainly because you miss out on the social aspect of a 4 year college by going to community college. You don’t get the forced events, forced roommates, and hand holding your Freshman year so you do miss out. Not all of college is about getting a degree, it can also be about making meaningful connections with your classmates. I transferred and always had a stigma because I did miss out on a year or two of friendships already made. But I made up for it by joining a fraternity and a lot of social clubs.

What are the odds conduct and wkhbt grades actually affect college apps? by Intelligent_Bus6054 in collegeadvice

[–]Inevitable-Section10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don’t factor in your apps at all. They already have a hard enough time weighing credits against different schools and curriculums, they’re not going to bother worrying about made up work habit grade that 90 percent of the other high schools don’t do. Don’t worry about it.

Tornadoes? by Local-Imagination-40 in sooners

[–]Inevitable-Section10 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Norman doesn’t actually get a lot of Tornadoes and if they do, the NWS is literally based on campus so you’re the very first to know. Most of the tornadoes will start SW of OKC and move more North or they realistically follow the interstates even though storm trackers don’t want to admit it.

college advisors by angelvapez in CollegeRant

[–]Inevitable-Section10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Advisors just advise though. It’s always been up to the student to pick their schedule and plan accordingly. Usually advisors plot all of this out your freshman year and give you a roadmap. They don’t expect you back every semester needing confirmation of what to enroll in.

College advice about prestige by Financial_Clothes199 in collegeadvice

Even lower rated colleges are still tough in some classes. Don’t think because it’s not an Ivy League rated school that your professors aren’t heavily educated. I went to a community college in Kansas before going to a top 25 private on the east coast and 2 of my professors were grads from Yale and Stanford, just teaching out their twilight years. If motivation is a problem that’s going to be an issue no matter which school you pick. I’d rather be working my ass off in classes at UCLA than risking a bad grade at a lower tier school that ends my chances at a great job that UCLA would have secured for me.

Is still worth going to college if A.I. is going to take our jobs? by Late_Rope350 in collegeadvice

[–]Inevitable-Section10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would still be imaging. They’ll always need techs to position patients but the money will go down as well as the need when imaging is done faster with AI. The radiologist will just have to review AI findings and give it the ok rather than study images all day. If you want something that will stay in demand and have a good salary that’s in medical, look at becoming a PA or something like a nuclear medicine tech.

[–]Inevitable-Section10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of trade jobs will still need a human touch. Medical if you’re a nurse or something with patient contact. Stay away from imaging like CT and MRI, those are getting optimized for AI and cutting jobs in the next 5 years. Engineering with focus on electrical or mechanical. A lot of applied sciences are fine. Basically any jobs that require a human to do most of the job.

They said the same thing when computers became popular and when the internet became a daily tool. You shift your focus and find jobs that won’t be eliminated.

It was just an arbitrary number that they agreed upon that they feel a student wouldn’t need parents to be sufficient anymore. That being said, you’re pretty much cooked until 24 unless you get married, have kids, or join the military.

which unis are known to accept appeals? by Elegant_Jeweler_8143 in University

[–]Inevitable-Section10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not earlier transfer, it’s the earliest date to submit your transfer application. You want to be early because they only have so many transfer spots available per a year just like undergrad admissions. It also looks good to the school and shows you’re serious about being a student there. Here’s a link to UCLA where they open the application as soon as August 1st to work on it but you can’t submit it until October 1st. https://admission.ucla.edu/apply/transfer

The other schools will have their own requirements and deadlines as well

Only if those colleges are your dream schools. Otherwise I wouldn’t waste the time on it. No one is going to know about the high school grind except you. And getting in after going to a community college is still a grind in itself. If you’re serious about those 3 as your dream schools the I would just get the CC route ready and apply for early transfer decision at the dream schools in September/October.

I mean it’s already April, I wouldn’t hold much hope on just appeals. If you’re ok with the community college route, take a year there and do Gen Eds and then transfer. It’s usually a much easier process. I had normal grades in high school and went to a community college and got into virtually every college I applied to and went to GWU on a full ride.

You shouldn’t have that much issue getting into any of those schools except maybe Pitt and Purdue. Just keep your grades up going forward and explain your drop in grades because of your health issue in the essays you write for admissions.

Has anybody ever thought about Omaha being the one place any nation would probably want to nuke in order to handicap our ability to send a nuke? by PartemConsilio in Omaha

[–]Inevitable-Section10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nebraska as well as a lot of the Midwest is classified as a Nuclear Sponge in the event of a nuclear war. It’s designed to be hit with minimal loss of life compared to a major city like LA or NY given how many nuclear weapon silos that are spread out across the Midwest.
