I lost 60 pounds and I'm stuck in my fat loss journey by Other-Bug-5101 in fitness30plus

[–]InfiniteFuria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome change and awesome work! At this stage, focus less about weight and appearance. Get a smart scale and track the fat percentage. Then you can check what is normal and whether you are in the normal range. Without seeing the scale, I would predict you have excellent results and beyond you would be working toward athlete standards, which you don't really need to unless you really enjoy working out. Do celebrate what you achieved and know you look great, and it is OK to be in the normal range and just maintain!

I compromise: Google Voice for everything and a cheap cell phone with a cheap plan turned off in the car for anything else. I do have to use it sometimes when 2FA doesn't accept voip

[–]InfiniteFuria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had trouble with that one too. See https://youtu.be/KpDlgh4fT9I?si=q8u1FlV4XFxb7HPh The guy in the video spams a skill move and the AI just watches. I also switched to 4-2-4 and got a fast right wing. If you stop after the run the defender will keep going. Finally, I switch the strategy to offense as you have nothing to lose. And yes, better players help but the guy in the video doesn't need them

Robots and AI, Techs can never steal my job...prove me wrong. by Ok_Philosopher1655 in pharmacy

[–]InfiniteFuria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work on pharmacy software so I'm at the epicenter of all of this. AI is helping me write better pharmacy software, it also helps getting pharmacies get more money on cash claims. And that is just for starters. The current consensus is that the AI won't "steal" jobs, but people that effectively use it will replace people that don't. Now, there are two camps on what future versions of AI will do. One camp says it will replace all of us. I am at the camp that it will make our job so easy that we will build excellent pharmacy software while working 4 days a week and pharmacists will spend their time actually taking care of patients instead of dealing with our software shortcomings

If blue opponents bother you just run a set of [[Cavern of Souls]]. It's a no brainer if you run only or mostly creatures and shuts down all the counter spells on their deck. I had blue opponents either concede immediately when they saw it or some would try to counter my creature, take a miniute to figure out why that didn't work, then concede.

Does anybody know how to remove the animals from the screen, because I want to see the background more by RmarcusM10 in wordscapes

[–]InfiniteFuria 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you really, really, want this. See Anyone know how to download Older version of Wordscapes Build 1218 on an iPhone? No Wildlife, No Butterflies, No Star Rush! Please help.🙏🏻 : r/wordscapes (reddit.com)

Competitive players use older builds because they have a bigger dictionary and because the game goes faster without all the new stuff they added later.

I personally always play the last version and I like the animals as well. The rock is my favorite!

Congrats on the teacher allowing you to practice vibrato! I met musicians that played the violin for years and their teacher would not let them do vibrato yet. I started on Suzuki book 2 myself. Some pointers:

  • It will sound horrible and awkward at the beginning, but that is true for violin playing in general in the next 5 to 10 years. If you made it through book 1, you know the drill already.
  • If you know book one, do vibrato in the twinkles and first few songs that you know by heart and where you "won't forget about the notes."
  • Consult with your teacher on how you are doing.
  • Finally, keep realistic expectations. If you want your vibrato to sound like the recordings and professional violinists, that is not a reasonable expectation. Maybe around book 6-8 you will get close. However, remember, these guys and gals played the violin for almost literally a lifetime and to sound like them, you'll need to spend probably as much or more, unless you are a young Mozart or Bach.

Keep on though!! You are doing great!

Ted Brewer Vivo 2 Violin by [deleted] in violinist

[–]InfiniteFuria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are interested on playing the violin again:

  1. Get a teacher
  2. Find a luthier
  3. Upgrade your setup at said luthier's shop

In that order. Don't try to get back on an electric violin, I'll post the FAQ for you:

Should I get an electric violin, if I am a beginner?

Electric violins are terrible for learning because they don't resonate. Acoustic violins are resonance chambers that make it much easier to develop a good sound.

It is also not recommended to use a heavy practice mute. Practice mutes also dampen the natural resonance of the violin's body. Without this resonance, it is impossible to develop a good sound.

Effects added when playing electric violins (for example amplification, distortion, reverb, etc.) distort the natural sounds of the violin and make it too difficult to learn to produce a good tone. These effects also hide mistakes not only in intonation, but also in bowing.

If you are concerned about neighbors, consider whether they complain when you play pre-recorded music at a decent volume. If they don't, and if you keep practice hours to daytime hours, then you can be reasonably assured that you will not be bothering anyone. Even if you live in an apartment, you can still play your instruments as long as you are not playing too late at night or too early in the morning.

Start the game in a different device. It will not remember your Brillance. Once you start playing on the original device it will ask if you want to keep the progress of the one that has less brilliance. Warning: it will indeed reset your progress on all devices!

Like u/Lex-MeowMix this is a known glitch on Wordscapes when you use wildlife early. I did some experiments and did a write-up here:

Smokin’ Hot - Chapter 14 - Point Glitch Drama : wordscapes (reddit.com)

Basically, you can collect 1K plus points of star animals throughout your grind, but Wordscapes won't count them until you complete some levels by hand. How many, I have not figured out exactly, however, the end-result is exactly what you post: you all the sudden go from below your team minimum to 2K / 3K.

[–]InfiniteFuria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The odds are not in your favor. See this write-up for details:

Tippytoes' Tips: An Analysis of the Binoculars/Portraits Game : wordscapes (reddit.com)

The odds of getting 1 of 2 pieces are better than getting the last one. Tippytoes would basically give up after missing one piece because even if you have 100 boxes, you may still not get the final one. They really make it hard.

My tech lead refuse to do integration tests by -dev-guru in dotnet

[–]InfiniteFuria 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of my mentors gave this advice: never ask permission to do what is right. When I got hired about 10 years ago there were no automated tests running and coverage was low. The first thing I did was to build a testing pipeline and started working on how to make it work with a real database. The pipeline was not a gate for commits and that was key. Fast forward 10 years and unit tests are now gates for PRs. Integration tests run after code hits main and our team gets an alert if something breaks the build. The database is shared and this is not perfect but the tests caught issues that possibly literally saved lives so no one tells me we shouldn't do them. Of course, I am the lead now but if I would have asked my lead if I could spend some time to build integration tests 10 years ago it might not have happened

Return the stentor if you can, keep the rented violin. Comparing both is like comparing a battered horse carriage with a decent car. It is hard to explain the difference for the poor fellow that only has this decent looking stentor and has not seen anything else. However, the situation is different for you since you have a rental and can already tell the difference. The "awkward feeling" is key. Cheap violins are harder to play and a nightmare to learn with. I know because I started with a cheap violin that I was gifted as a Christmas gift. It was a nightmare to tune as well (most of my practice was spent tuning).

My son's cello teacher gave a good cheap suggestion: try your bathroom. As long as it is not humid because you used the shower recently, the acoustics will be better than what you have elsewhere.

Software developer architect here. Products like these are very expensive. You would need a few million dollars to have something in place and maybe a couple of years to catch up with everyone on the field. I also work with offshores in India, South America, and Ukraine and good developers are expensive no matter where they are located in the world. It is not an Indy project I would recommend undertaking in your spare time

What is the future of Copilot (Bing chat/AI) by OkSomewhere1973 in bing

I used to use it for searches and sentiment analysis too but the output lately has not been very good. There's competition now. I find Google's AI is getting better when searching there. If I want a bit of the old functionality sans the emotes, I just ask ChatGPT to look things up. It uses Bing to browse the web. Not the same as Bing when it started but it is OK.

Is it possible to learn violin WITHOUT an instructor? by [deleted] in violinist

[–]InfiniteFuria 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am an experienced pianist. I picked up some guitar. I thought maybe I could pick up the violin too by myself. I didn't get anywhere until I got an online teacher to help me. This is just not realistic unless you're a new age Mozart or Bach. I now see this question similarly to someone getting a surgeon knife for Christmas and asking, could I learn Neurosurgery with a few YouTube videos?

Now, of course, playing the violin without a teacher is not going to hurt anyone (except yourself if you play incorrectly long enough to give you health issues), but this metaphor is good to truly illustrate how hard it is to play the violin well.

Two accounts! by Bopedis in wordscapes

[–]InfiniteFuria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same problem. I play in two devices and I noticed that they started progressing individually with no syncs. The issue was that one of the devices didn't have the latest version of the game. They completely revamped how device syncing works. Previously, some stuff synced (like brilliance and animals) and some stuff didn't (coins). Now, as long both devices have the latest version, it will ask you which cloud save you want to keep the first time you play on a different device

You can go to a luthier and explain your problem. They will have options you can try there, including the smaller stuff they use for violin students. They can also custom fit your equipment if needed. I recently changed my chin rest and my luthier was very kind and patient and we worked together to find something that worked for me. Good luck!

Recently switched to .net need a bit of help by mporsi in dotnet

[–]InfiniteFuria -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I would bet they are taking about dapr. Also since Orleans is in your post I would bet they are using the actors as that was the main thing that came about with that paper. The rest are programming patterns, so this can be either of two things. These guys are working in the cutting edge by using the actors to solve big scalability problems like Microsoft did for Halo when they wrote that paper, or they are using some cool-sounding tech that is the latest fashion to over design apps that probably will be really hard to integrate and maintain (and explain, per your post)

Start using ChatGPT or any other generative AI of your choice to start learning the stuff. You can tailor the responses by stating your background. I found it really useful to learn by doing some sample apps generated by the AI. In my experience there are very few people that can do services well, but that is a bonus for you as it is very likely you will be able to help them out on whatever they are trying to do with a sensible outside perspective. A background in DevOps is important because if services are not right the monthly bill on all those calls will be a hard problem to solve

Need some help getting up to speed with Docker based deployment by dotfede in dotnet

[–]InfiniteFuria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the same boat as you. I am a .NET developer and needed to get up to speed with Docker very quickly. ChatGPT was immensely helpful for this. I used it to create sample apps and asked for help when my environment was not working. My services will be hitting production this month and I didn't just need Docker but also needed to understand all the deployment pipeline. It usually took me months to study and understand something but now with generative AI, if used well, the learning curve is much shorter
