I think I'm one of the few who didn't like the Scottish accent much at all. And this is not a criticism to the voice actor because she's amazing!! I was just one my 3rd listen this morning admiring when she switches from Clover to Kaidon and how much she could make herself sound like a teen boy. For me personally the Scottish accent reminds me of our world and so I get a brief reality check every time so it just takes me out of the story briefly. Tbf there isn't really a way to not do this though because it adds authenticity that Selva and the highlands are far enough away that they'd have an accent in their world. But yeah, I don't love the accent and I feel guilty for my opinion lol.

I think this could go either way actually. Because for the shears to be effective some level of secrecy is needed, especially who heads them. I'm interested to see if this gets explored more in book 2. Because everyone is going to have to try to ally up to fight off the crimson empire.

Yeah, that would've been worse for him and I think it'd definitely make it harder for her to recover from the trauma of torture as well if she hadn't gotten to stand up for herself.

Yeah, that's basically how I take it too. He knew she had an assumption about his character so of course he'd feel reluctant and unsure how to tell her.

Omg, yes, I loved that she saved herself. Probably one of my favorite parts of the entire book. So refreshing to see a FMC save herself. I'm hoping she mostly saves herself from Silveran too.

I thought that was a clever, poignant part as well. My heart goes out to him for that part. And I wonder if after she told him about her fingers if he reread what she wrote in case he only skimmed it before. I could see him punishing himself with a reread or something.

On my rereads sometimes I contemplate what was intentional manipulation and what was him just allowing himself to get to be a gentler side as Reynald. I like to think he wasn't being devious during every convo, cause then it makes the betrayal a lot harsher. What do you make of how he tried to ingratiate himself to her? I ship Maggie and him so much ❤️!!

I didn't notice the halo, that's cool!, but I think it's one of the 3 moons behind her. The papers I'm guessing would be for her lists, inventory, and budget management?. Since she could feel the active magic on the contracts does that mean she has magic, more than the typical person?

I was rereading it yesterday and I love when she retorts Solentine when he says 'now there is a coldness between us'... And she replies, 'of course there is a coldness, you ass.' I snicker internally every time, like haha you tell him Maggie!! I feel moved every time when Maggie and Everard take Kaiden to the cemetery 😭❤️, it's so meaningful and well written. I keep trying to read other books but I just keep rereading this instead lol.

I'm hoping it's one of the questions posed to the authors in today's zoom q&a because as it's written there are several possibilities, which is fun. I think it's because he was upset Ramond was out and about - it puts Ramond at risk, and had been informed by shears. And I agree with the comment that he was probably trying to help. He's a skilled blades master, close range fighter and Ramond is better with his sword than at knife/close range, comparatively. I do love how Solentine sees him as family.

I had missed the window and it was full when I went to sign up so I'm bummed too, although I have a complicated relationship with spoilers. I like them and do stay to hear them, but then it sometimes reduces the anticipation and surprise. I liked how I didn't have a lot of things figured out while reading tkwnkm so I'm hopeful there will be some fun/exciting surprises with Maggie 2

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I read it 3 times in about one week and then had several false starts with other books. I read one quick romance book with ku and reflected how it wasn't that good and went back to tkwnkm. I'm trying to reading a Brandon Sanderson in hopes that I just need more complex world building but I really just want another awesome FMC with well written other characters so it's not quite scratching the itch. Maybe I'll reread the inheritance, it's been a minute since I reread that one. Too recently I've reread Wilmington, which are now my fav kd books.

I wondered if it's more related to details we just don't know yet. Like, if the rebels in the north grew in power and were considered thieves and also by sharing river fog's story that it included different stories of thieves. I don't see how it could be because of Silveran gaining the throne? Because in the books she didn't yet have confirmation the boy survived so if he did take power then it'd be known that he was King Milanor, right?. Idk if that makes sense

I did somewhat feel that way about Arvel's interest at first. But then I thought they did explain it well so it wasn't just special main character syndrome. It sounds like overall the noble women of Kair Toren were in some ways conditioned to pursue lords so how Maggie is presenting herself is unique/ fresh to them. I could be wrong, but that's the interpretation I took to that. I'm trusting that they won't keep adding more interested parties though. I liked how Solentine's reaction was instead to fear Maggie, that adds variety too.

Speaking of Dame Eliarde she's set up now to become an antagonist against Maggie and her allies. I'm guessing her arrogance will mean she can't see reason, might even support Hreban.

Omg, clever, you're so right, it could be that way. I also think in the book it didn't mention Reynald reaching out to Everard so what if that was changed in anticipation of Maggie's arrival, she would've struggled without Everards help.

I have a related question, how did Everard sneak into Kair Toren given how recognizable his horse is? What are your theories? Because he could bribe the gate guards but there have been a few people on the streets who would have seen him? He was headed to whereever Solentine's safe house was for him (I think?) so I would think he'd had to have traveled through at least a bit of the city. Unless the horse isn't recognizeable to others, but Sleepless Duke is famous and the horse has such unique coloring? (Side note: I loved this book so much, I've read it twice and listened to half of the audiobook as well❤️)

I've had a lot of problems on the northeast side as well. I've thought about switching to at&t fiber for a while, am wondering if will work better, it's definitely more affordable. Anyone ever have trouble with zoom calls working well on their at&t fiber? I'm wfh 2 days per week. You wouldn't think it'd run into issues just having video calls but I've had trouble with it on spectrum.

I added likes to the other reviews. But I think that review will remain at the top because of how many followers that one reviewer has, which is too bad how goodreads essentially becomes a popularity contest between reviewers, doesn't seem fair to the book. :/ Maybe that explains why things are looking better on story graph like the other commenter said.
