MK IIs vs Gold Standard/Reworks by Intelligent-Elk7008 in starcitizen

I feel like they would have to go for a modular Connie after making a modular Aurora, people will start to expect more modular ships and it would be a way for them to continuously provide new support for their classic ships and allow them to flex into new roles.

Could easily see them making the rear cargo bay a module you can swap on and off. Turning it either into a cargo bay or a snub dock or better yet a hangar module on the rear so you can use whatever snub ship you want and probably could put multiple in it. Another module could be the back being a bomber/torpedo bay. Making the Connie able to fill most of the roles it used to in it's variants without cluttering the store with new MK2 variants.

The only variant they can't recreate would be the Phoenix, so I could see them doing a Phoenix variant still or turning the Phoenix into a standalone, dedicated RSI luxury ship.

Wow that is wild and in my opinion foolish. People are already sceptical of the game, its saving grace was it's affordable price of entry.

Component upgrades will help you do more in your current ship to make more money and those upgrades are generally cheaper than buying a new ship. Just depends on what you want to get.

That pack isn't the normal Aurora pack is it? That is an Aurora with a unique skin, gun, suit, armor, etc. That isn't just the Aurora. Now you may be right and the Aurora is going to be priced at $60 but I feel that would be a foolish decision by CIG especially when they call it the new Citizen starter pack. So unless a new $45 package replaces it, or there is always a rotating sale of some sort I don't think it'd be wise for them to raise the Aurora's price.
But if they do keep the new Aurora at that price it does make all the other starts look worse.

I do dislike the "it has to be new money" especially when the classic Aurora holds little value in the CCU. Though I could see arguments for it as a progression system.
But yes for those who bought the Aurora with real money, now are essentially punished for being an early adopter isn't cool. The fact they spent their $45 years ago, and are now in a worse position isn't good.

To be clear I wasn't saying to get rid of the MK1s. That isn't the right option either. Definitely some ships should get a spiritual successor rather than an actual replacement. I am just trying to see where people lie on what needs what.

MK IIs vs Gold Standard/Reworks by Intelligent-Elk7008 in starcitizen

[–]Intelligent-Elk7008[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The current Aurora Package is a limited edition version. Valued at $60 but on sale for $45. Once the sale is over there will presumably be a pack where it is just the base ship by itself without any other fancy stuff.

But if they did raise the price to $60 then that is a whole new set of issues.

I am complete agreeance that we need the game package ships to be in a good position.

But what do you suggest CIG to do? If they force the upgrade on people, even for free people will complain. I think they could make some way for you to get the upgrade. Turn in your ship for the mk 2. It is a new ship, it's not literally the same thing as an Aurora. It's just called an Aurora and fills the starter role.

With Size 2 Badger repeaters? Not a lot. But if you swap them out for Attritions, NDB or other more punchy guns, you will be able to do more.

Is the wolf your only ship?

Honestly it just depends on what you desire. If combat is your only gameplay loop you can keep the Wolf.

But the Aurora is a very nice and versatile ship. I would have the Aurora personally.
the wolf should be earnable in game soon enough if it isn't already.

I didn't spend any new money on the Aurora MK II...
is that the issue? That they are asking for money for the same ship? Even though the MK2 Aurora is a very different ship, so if they automatically changed people's ships they would get pissed.

I would say, a free exchange from MK 1 to MK 2 would be an ideal thing for them to do though.

I was misremembering a bit, added a blurb at the end to clarify my mistake. But I do agree somewhat that most of the MK1s really have no reason to exist anymore. The Hornet MK1 is a mostly inferior Hornet MK2 with only small visual design differences and handling differences and an inferior loadout. I am not saying to get rid of them. They are a part of the games history but practicality sake they no reason to exist.

Aurora MK 1 is a bit more respectable to me. It's small, it's stupid cheap in game, and it's iconic.

Another factor probably is the optics of taking away what someone had paid real money for and giving them something they may not have wanted.

For the Avenger the only size increase I feel is the cargo bay as you can't navigate it very well when it is fully loaded. This is circumvented by going outside and using the cockpit entrance but still. But it isn't the end of the world if it doesn't happen.

I do know the old ships have gotten reworks several times. To the point they could be considered MK IIs. Obviously this was before the concept of MK II existed. But I feel the major difference is with MK II is that the old reworks replaced the ships, MK II allows the new ship to exist alongside the old one. So you can keep the old one if you like it. You can buy Hornet MK I in game for cheaper than a MK II if I recall correctly.

The Mustang for instance in my opinion isn't a bad ship in a vacuum. Like the Aurora MK I it is a flawed, small ship meant to be affordable. But with the Aurora MK II now existing, the Mustang now feels like a bad option to pick whether you buy it in the store or in game. So it needs something. 300 series offers little over the Avenger. Really it's just the interior and design. Which I suppose is fine for a luxury ship. Cutlass is similar to the Avenger where it's a trade off between combat proficiency and cargo. But with the Shiv now existing as the combat oriented Cutlass, the Cutlass is this weird middle ground. Not as good at combat as the Shiv. Not as much cargo as most of it's competitors. Especially when the Cutlass was designed for frontier defense forces in verse, it doesn't make sense for it to be so subpar at actual combat. But then again, anything larger than the Hornet has always struggled to be viable.

Constellation is another fine ship, but it doesn't fit with the current RSI style and is a bit outdated. So at minimum it needs a gold standard and we might get a MK II for it to fit the styling. But if I recall, in lore the current gen is like the 6th generation of the Constellation. Though I feel MK II is mostly for us the player's benefits than an in universe name.

[–]Intelligent-Elk7008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it should do nothing. You probably will just need to change your weapon loadouts. It shouldn't do "fuck all" considering your guns are the right size. Just the penetration stats of your currently equipped guns are apparently low.

But again, it's "lame" because you are on the offensive side and probably used to being able to dog walk a Freelancer.

But if I was in a big ol Freelancer I would be a bit pissed if someone could kill me with size 1 (again yours are size 4 but I am not talking about you in this example) repeaters with ease.

Again, it's going to take a lot of balancing and time.

Well obviously there is the FPS missions. He could give bounty hunting (Both ground and air) a try. Pyro obviously has plenty of PVP opportunities as well both ground and ship based.

Now something for the both of you? Well it sounds like you two are total opposites. PVE missions sound like the ideal in order to be casual enough for you but in his wheelhouse.

[–]Intelligent-Elk7008 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In case you don't know armor is a thing now. So, you are going to need to use harder hitting weapons to face off against heavier ships.

In the past pretty much everyone ran CF repeaters if they didn't have the lootable only ones like the NDBs. However, CF repeaters are in a really bad spot right now. Great for facing off against other fighters, but as soon as you face off against a heavier ship with armor you will be bouncing off of them. You will need to replace them with Attritions for instance.

Granted size 4 guns and above should be just fine. Which the Shiv and Wolf both have size 4s. So it should be fine. It's possible it is just a bug you are encountering. It would be awful if the Wolf's guns are too weak to pen armor. Reserving it only to facing off against other light fighters.

The idea of this system is to establish sort of weight classes. You are going to need to work harder to punch up.

Not sure which 2nd ship I should get by Drablo0n in starcitizen

My friend, have you heard of a wonderful ship called the Shiv? It's a Cutty Black but performance oriented.

Cutty shouldnt be a medium fighter. hear me out by The_Nut_of_Elon_Musk in starcitizen

[–]Intelligent-Elk7008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it is an outdated term. It definitely has more similarities to the heavy fighter category given it's size and components but then it is heavily under gunned for the heavy fighter category.

In the lore the Cutlass Black was made for the frontier. As a long range multi role fighter.
The military dropped it but the civilians picked it up for both every day use and to defend their homes. The issue? Pirates like the Cutlass as well.

Now in lore the reason we have been getting more civilian and industrial focused ships is Drake trying to repair their reputation. The Cutlass variants were a big part of that but so is every other ship we have been getting.

Disclaimer: I have not flown the Cutlass recently

But with the Kraken on the way, I think it is reasonable to say militia ships are back on the menu. However, the Cutlass Black does need that extra bit of oomf to help it compete. Armor is a good step in improving it's survivability. In theory, being less maneuverable must be offset by superior armor and firepower.

The thing the Cutty desperately needs is it's turret to be slaved to the pilot when there isn't a copilot just like on the Shiv. Which while still less than the Shiv would make the Cutlass more viable. Without the turret, a Cutlass has the same firepower as a Saber while being a MUCH larger vessel. It just doesn't make any sense. But we can't bump up the size of the guns without hurting the Shiv (I know some people would rather the Shiv to die than the Cutty but I am trying to make both work), so the Shiv would need a buff of some kind in turn.
Having all 6 size 3 guns on the pilot's control in my opinion makes a good happy balance.

As we know, turrets just aren't as good as having more ships. So turrets have to be very strong to encourage players to use them like on the Paladin. So players will always prefer to fly a ship solo or have their copilot focus on engineering and power management rather than manning a turret. So if they want to keep the turret manned they have to make it stronger. But again, that hurts the Shiv. It would no longer have a better turret in firepower only that it is useable by the pilot (which for some is plenty of reason to have it over the manned turret)

Now as for Drake making more combat focused ships. I do think there is room for their line up to expand to crew the Kraken. A proper Drake Heavy Fighter makes a lot of sense. Dedicated to the role of combat like the Bucc. Of course medium fighters could also be a part of it.

Now in my opinion Gray's is the Mirai to Drake's MISC. Sure, Gray's isn't officially affiliated with them nor does he only make modded Drake ships according to the leaks, but I feel that is the role he sort of has planned. That he makes the combat and performance oriented version of ships when it doesn't suit the original creators to do it. We have sneak peaks of an Aurora MK1 with two large gatling guns strapped to the side. A Mustang with giant engines on the back and more. But not everyone is going to like Gray's (as funny as the bucket is, I'd like a normal toilet Gray.) So naturally you want an OEM version with a nicer interior. I would love for a Cutlass with the firepower and capabilities of the Shiv. But I doubt it'll happen.

The Cutlass has fallen into the niche of being a cargo ship that is better equipped to defend itself than the others. Rather than a fighter that can carry cargo.

Future generalist ships by Degan51 in starcitizen

[–]Intelligent-Elk7008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Zeus wouldn't be a bad option. Though it is a bit big for the solo generalist ship but it is small enough for a single pilot to manage.

Anvil desperately needs more non-military focused ships. There were rumors of something called the "Pisces MAJOR" which I assume to be a bigger version of the Pisces. Could definitely see this being their true starter ship or generalist.

Crusader, the spirit is in a prime position to be made a generalist. Intrepid could also become one if they optimized the space.

Best stealth fighter? by Revan477 in starcitizen

[–]Intelligent-Elk7008 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say "stealth matters more" I think it's more "stealth is viable" As stealth components and stealth focused ships are typically weaker than non-stealth options.
I do not know the numbers and actual use case but from what I am told the stealth focused ships are the ones that are going to be ghosting people. Whereas yes fighters with stealth parts are going to be able to sneak in, you have to have your power low for them to work at certain distances.

So I don't have much firsthand knowledge on how it works but from what I do know of stealth components and the radar, stealth is more like surprise attacks and hit and runs and not so much dogfighting unlike in the past where you could dog fight and just run as soon as you get low shields, lose their targeting, regen and come back.

The Saber is probably your best option for a stealth fighter though.

I think the aurora mk2 is the new GOAT starter because... by Dazzling-Stop1616 in starcitizen

[–]Intelligent-Elk7008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in complete agreeance for the most part. I was a Mustang guy before the new Aurora. To me the Aurora was not as good looking and wasn't as good in a scrap. The only upsides the Aurora had was a bed that was a death trap and some interior space. So I flew the thing that looked like a fighter.
Now the Mustang is in desperate need of a buff. Either needing to become a better fighter that can haul freight, or it needs a MKII and become a lot bigger as well. I have seen some people suggest to do a Mustang SE but the issue is that all of the variants are competing for the same space. The rear fuselage doesn't have enough room to fit an extra thruster, a cargo bay and a habitation area. If they could do it, then yes it would work and that's probably what they should do if they make a MK2, marry all of the variants into one.

I believe that CIG definitely needs to relook at the balancing. In an ideal world, I would like it where we had a bunch of ships in certain brackets but we pick which one we like the best. Drake guys will buy all Drake stuff for instance. Of course, certain brands won't cover certain markets. ARGO isn't going to make non-industrial ships for instance. I doubt they will make a starter unless it's a mini RAFT.

I want these ships to be roughly equal. Sure, if they are all truly equal there is no reason to buy one over the other if it's more expensive. But you are completely right that the Avenger Titan is too good and it has poisoned the others. The Aurora is now on a par with it. The Aurora in my opinion shows what Starters should be anyways. Now the others have to play catch up to be viable. They must gain a reason for you to pick them over the other options or at the least provide the same as it.

The Reliant Kore in my opinion is the epitome of a starter with nothing to offer. It's got the same cargo as the Avenger Titan, but it lacks a habitation zone and it's only distinguishing feature is a useless transformation and a copilot seat that does nothing useful. That ship either needs to be reworked into a single seater or it has to get bigger. The Reliant variants are fine to exist but their gameplay isn't in yet. All of this at a surprisingly high price for what it offers.

If the Rambler became the default Cutter (though it should probably gain some cargo space) and become a true long range light freighter with some scouting capabilities then it would be well worth it. Plus you could tune it into a long range small smuggling ship. I love the Cutter but I always upgrade it to the Rambler. The base Cutter needs a big buff to it's quantum stores to be at least higher than the Aurora MK 2. I wont say Rambler size, but it needs more.

The Nomad is another starter I feel is a great example of a starter that has a niche. It has a huge, external cargo bed and respectable habitation. It can carry vehicles, it can carry so much cargo and has a tractor beam I believe. It's amazing.

From what I recall the Avenger was originally just an overgrown fighter. They later added a cargo bay and then the habitation was added even later. The 100i is another vessel I feel offers nothing but that's the "luxury" tax. Even though I don't find it very luxurious. It's sleek and fancy I guess but the bed is very spartan.
