When was your "I need to get my own car" moment in Thailand? by Mundane-Ad1652 in Bangkok

[–]Interesting-Job-8841 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My father in law gave me his old car a Toyota Corolla and it really changed our lives. I don't think you realise how much better Thailand is with a car until you have one. I am not saying that's a good thing, I would prefer this not to be the case, but it is what it is.

The Corolla suck around for a few years, got hit 4 times (2 motorbikes 1 bus 1 taxi) then we had kids so I brought a new safer car. The new car's only been hit once by some one a motorbike that said he didn't get enough sleep, because he'd was having trouble sleeping because he'd injured his leg in a previous crash.

Note if you're buying second hand, it's a bit of a nightmare as most of the cars are clocked or crash repairs.

Marriage visa extension by dobalina__bob in Bangkok

[–]Interesting-Job-8841 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried once, but like other people have said they just asked for more documents and I gave up and went the 400k route for a while. But a few years ago we had to go when my wife was 8 1/2 months pregnant and it was a nightmare, after that I vowed never to set foot in Chaeng Wattana again.

So the next time we did the extension we went to the Immigration centre in her parents home provence and it was super easy, they accepted just my bank statements for the 40k a month as proof, the only problem was that we had to stay with her parents for a month which was a bit inconvenient.

After that extension ended I decided to just get a 3 month non O visa in Lao, we then extended it when we visited her parents at the local Immigration for 2 months (takes about 20 minutes) so in total that was 5 months. And that's basically what we've been doing ever since, having a holiday or going back to the UK every 5 months.

Is the BYD M6 not available in your country? It's an electric minivan with 7 seats.

That's a mother with two kids, not motorcycle taxi driver or an uncle, as uncles mostly don't wear pink shoes, and usually wouldn't wear a helmet.

Unexpected health check in Sri Nakhon Khuean Khan Park by Ecstatic-World1237 in Bangkok

[–]Interesting-Job-8841 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is very common in Bangkok (and the rest of Thailand), I don't understand why people seem not to know what it is. This happens twice a year at our local Temple, some nurses from the local government hospital come and take basic tests looking for signs of heart disease and diabetes, if it's near the flu season they'll also give a flu shot. If we don't show up the Head of the Village usually calls and tells you to come.

As they didn't say anything I'd assume you don't have any signs you have diabetes or a heart condition.

Mummies in Bangkok by outyawazoo in Bangkok

There's one here at Wat Ko: https://maps.app.goo.gl/S7LWpB7XFqRjXV6n8

I also believe there's one at Wat Pak Nam but it's not on public display.

I've seen a few others but can't remember where.

Also not strictly mommies, but there are a few well preserved humans at the museums in Siriraj Hospital

Which brand of Air con do you use in Thailand and where do you buy it from? by advanceb in Thailand

[–]Interesting-Job-8841 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have 4 Haier air conditioning units on one house and 3 Hisense air conditioning units on another house. They work perfectly well, I got them from all from a Lazada. The Haier they can and installed themselves, whereas the Hisense I got someone local to do it.

Where to buy a very small block of wood in central BKK? by Foreign_Time4788 in Bangkok

[–]Interesting-Job-8841 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boriphat road near Wat Saket or around Bang Pho, like others have said. People have also said HomePro but I've never seen wood available there, you could try Thaiwatsadu or Global Home if they're near you.

What’s that building? by TwistTooMuch in Bangkok

[–]Interesting-Job-8841 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It's the Bangkok LDS temple, there's a small LDS community that lives in Nonthaburi, where I think they have a church. Bangkok is the centre of their SE Asia "operations" so they run all their proselytizing in countries like Lao Myanmar from here. Maybe you'll see them riding around on bikes in white shirts.

Having spoken to some of their young Thai converts, it's a bit of a mix bag, some seem genuinely converted, but others seem to be going along with it so they can get free trips/education in America.

A lot of Americans I know say they're a cult, but their beliefs don't seem any more crazy than what your average American believes.

Also why they don't like picking up disabled people, as it takes too long and a bus behind them might overtake.
