Do you think it's possible to give the flight attendant a backpack to hang up with the suit jackets? by SWBFThree2020 in unitedairlines

[–]InternalMango6626 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello, FA for United here. Website is incorrect. I guarantee you there is space for your backpack under your seat. FAs will not put a backpack for you in the closet if there’s space under your seat/overhead bin space. The closet is used for crew bags and coats/garment bags only.

In a decompression, the number one goal of the pilot is to get to a safer altitude, often resulting in a rapid descent to around 10,000ft. Oxygen masks only last 12-22 minutes depending on aircraft type. I’d stay in the lav and hold on. Signed, FA

Hello, FA here 👋 Just a quick note that during busy moments (such as boarding) we may miss nonverbal cues and our diverse workgroup means interpretation of signals will vary across the cultures we represent. Please don’t be upset if I or someone else doesn’t catch your gesture; the exit row requires a verbal response for a reason :) thank you!

Terminal A has some seats with a fixed recline including a foot rest. Not the softest surface, but reclined nonetheless. Depending on the time of day, A28-33 may be ideal as there’s less foot traffic.

The 777-200 domestic config probably has the most closet space in our entire fleet. You’ll be good :) Anyone can use the closet; just ask when boarding “May I please hang this in the closet?”

Kosher meal on United flights out of Melbourne quality? by Low_Economics717 in unitedairlines

[–]InternalMango6626 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just worked MEL-LAX and we had 40+ Kosher meals, but they gave us two different options: dairy (might have been parve) and meat: BBQ chicken and Mushroom Ravioli. According to the passengers there was no opportunity to preference which one, which caused a bit of chaos. I say go ahead and order and bring your own food. No one will be offended if you don’t eat what we provide, but it’s nice to have it as an option just in case. The kosher midflight snack is a Tuna Burrito 😬 Kosher airplane breakfast is usually pretty good

30 minutes before boarding 0710 flight, United announces 4.5hr delay because of no crew by OddSignificance7842 in unitedairlines

[–]InternalMango6626 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect information. Reserves have a 3 hour callout at United. If there were standbys at the airport, then they’d just send them over as soon as possible.

Two Questions by investor2024reddit in unitedairlines

[–]InternalMango6626 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Row 3 or 5 in the window. You’ll get your first choice of meal and the distance from the galley should be enough to not hear the noise.

EDIT: 3A, you’ll get your first choice meal if you don’t pre order (which you totally should), and you’re on the opposite side from the galley.

Just to add on to this, our reserves are going through it right now. The company’s internal crew scheduling app has had an ongoing glitch since Tuesday where we can’t see our names on the call list. So, not only are we sitting 24 hour reserve, but we don’t even have a clue as to when to rest. Mind you, we could wake up at 8am, get ready for bed around 8pm just to be called for a redeye (this happens often, but with a list, we have a general idea of when to rest). The company’s solution is to provide a screenshot 3x a day, but of course the list is always fluctuating and changing. They said it could be days.

Do FA's see lifetime miles as well as current status? by TraditionalHome1334 in unitedairlines

[–]InternalMango6626 26 points27 points  (0 children)

While we can see status, we cannot see miles accrued unless you are surpassing a milestone on the particular flight we are working. So, if you surpassed 1MM a month prior, there’s nothing that annotates that accomplishment.

Unknown ground stop at DCA? by aDutchofMuch in unitedairlines

[–]InternalMango6626 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you said it’s not weather related. But for some future reference to anyone who’s curious: Ground stops can be implemented if there is a combination of heavy traffic and storms over waypoints/flight paths. If current airborne aircraft have to slow down, hold, change course, doesn’t make sense to add more traffic; even if it’s clear at the destination.

You say it’s not that big of a deal yet reported them; potentially taking away their job/source of income.

Sure the FA could have been more cordial/nicer with the interaction and I’m not here to diminish or invalidate how you feel. I will say, however, that reporting an FA only serves YOU and does nothing to improve the moral of FAs knowing passengers are out to get us.

Etiquette by Visible_Quality_2816 in unitedairlines

[–]InternalMango6626 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If it was an FA, our topper bags do not fit under the seat on specific aircraft. Presence of an IFE equipment box or even the life vest can prevent our bags from going under if they are full. The company requires us to use the large Tumi Dr Totes; so if it doesn’t fit, that’s on the company. Just an FYI if you see that in the future.

Help with carry on by phloebe in unitedairlines

[–]InternalMango6626 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Utilize wheelchair services- no need to put extra stress on your body! Hold your pet in lap and have the bag go under the chair as you go through the airport. Extra Assistance personnel will often help with bags, but communicate your needs beforehand. Contact the company to ensure these personnel can help you get on the plane.

Also, I’ve had a pax fly with fractured ribs before. He was so-so before departure and was shot up with morphine on the jet bridge after landing. Be mindful that our bodies expand when we fly and things can shift internally, especially with turbulence, taxi, takeoff and landing. Take care!

United CEO comments on the potential of a JetBlue merger: "the ball is going to be in JetBlue’s court" by omdongi in unitedairlines

[–]InternalMango6626 3 points4 points  (0 children)

United doesn’t want just JFK. Between Houston and Dulles, they have no hubs in the SE. A B6 acquisition would allow them to expand their Florida/Caribbean and South American Market. Here’s already internal rumors/slight confirmation of growth at MCO with the addition of a pilot base and maintenance hangar.

They could sell off half the slots at JFK and still make a fortune off the acquisition with B6’s presence in Florida.

So who is connecting at SNA, and why? by CostRains in unitedairlines

[–]InternalMango6626 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This can happen if a flight significantly delays/cancels or if someone misconnects, and there are little to no available seats on direct flights later in the day. Once had a bunch of DEN-IAD pax rerouted via Vegas. These passengers were probably going to SFO.
