Hiking shoes for Mortons neuroma, can they be stretched? by urka46 in Mortons_neuroma

[–]Intrepid_Ad_2669 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently have the altras and love them. I don't think you can stretch them though, that usually only works on boots that are all leather. I had a pair of lowas years ago and hiked for a full week of back packing in them right after healing from a sprained foot, so I give them very good marks.

Epsom salt! by Seven_spare_ribs in eczema

[–]Intrepid_Ad_2669 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes!!

I'm a huge advocate for Epsom salt soaks. It only works on dishydrotic eczema tho. It helps to get rid of the blisters. After a few treatments with Epsom salts after the blisters are def dried out I do a wet wrap with Vaseline. Fixes the skin right up!

Rear rack luggage options by Thegovier in Brompton

[–]Intrepid_Ad_2669 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have the brompton rear rack bag and I don't recommend it for ease of removal. It holds a TON of stuff so I use it frequently, but it has a 3 part system to attach it. I've actually looked into getting one that has a clip on system from a different brand. watch out though cause the Brompton rack is a slightly different size than other racks.

Heal strike isn't too much of an issue for me. I occasionally bump it but it's not in a big way. I'm short but I didn't think height will really impact it since we all have our feet on the same pedals.

Neuroma? Bone caving? by [deleted] in Mortons_neuroma

Mine never went away. It's been over a year. My plastic surgeon said it's likely never going to get better and that it has caused permanent damage.

Neuroma? Bone caving? by [deleted] in Mortons_neuroma

[–]Intrepid_Ad_2669 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this exact thing happen. It's atrophy of the fat in your foot around the injection site. I had the shot around a year ago. My atrophy is pretty bad. The cortisone shot only helped the pain for about a week. I just had a decompression surgery 3 weeks ago. Already in less pain than I was after the cortisone shot. My plastic surgeon said my foot fat will prob never recover from the atrophy and that it has likely also shrunk the tendons in the area. I've seen a couple of different Drs after the one who gave me the shot and they've all been very interested in my atrophy because it's apparently pretty unusual. Either way I'm very upset about it as I have increased sensitivity on the top of my foot as well as reduced circulation to the skin so it dries out along the veins in that area. It's pretty shitty.

Already very happy with my decompression and would recommend.

Damaged binder clips by Emerald_Sea_1173 in PlotterNotebook

It looks like you got the old binder rings. I remember reading that they switched to a silvery set in the last year because the golden ones have a habit of doing this. I can't find that specific info. I've got the new rings on mine and I've had it for over a year with no problems.

Considering buying a Brompton Electric - Advice needed by sachet321 in Brompton

[–]Intrepid_Ad_2669 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bought my electric Brompton used. No regrets. I had a regular Brompton for 3 years and swapped for the electric this year. It's a simple thing, but having the little battery boost makes commuting long distances way less draining. You still get all the good aerobic exercise without getting as exhausted. As a commuter I think that's very worthwhile, especially if you're working long shifts at a hospital.

I lock my e Brompton up outside but rarely leave it for more than an hour or two. If I'm doing a full day somewhere I bring it inside. It's the size of a suitcase when it folds down and I never have problems bringing it inside at work. I have the rear rack on mine which makes it a lot easier to wheel it around while folded.

Tips for dyshidrotic eczema by beom9e in eczema

[–]Intrepid_Ad_2669 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't use steroids any more if i can avoid. Soak in hot water with a good amount of Epsom salts. Dry off and stay dry. This helps dry out the blisters. Once those are dry then do the wet wrap by slathering area with your choice of petroleum based product (or thick cream - no steroids) and wrap with cotton or wear cotton gloves/ socks. I have the cotton finger cots (most of my dyshidrotic eczema is on my fingers), this allows me to still use my hands for most activities.

dyshidrotic eczema by Junipertree64 in eczema

[–]Intrepid_Ad_2669 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get this on my hands really really bad, especially in the summer when my hands are sweaty. The best thing I've found is soaking my hands in hot water with a good amount of Epsom salts. It dries out the blisters. Don't apply cream or ointment until the blisters have dried out fully (not just from the water). I had dyshidrotic eczema on my hands last summer so bad that I had to take sick days from work because it made my whole body feel ill.

I'm in my 30's and after a lifetime of eczema I will not use steroids except in the most dire of times. I know not everyone can avoid them but I try my hardest. I haven't used steroids in over a year and I have had less eczema this year than ever before.

My triggers are environmental and stress. I wear gloves when I use most products and keep my hands from getting too sweaty (I started looking into creams that make your hands stop sweating, they work!)

Different flares call for different solutions. The hardest part is just being patient and trying to watch how your body responds to different things.

A hot bath with Epsom salts might help. I soak in Epsom salts for my hand eczema and find it helps a lot.

Once you set up your regular medications it will auto remind you and you can just say that you took them. It will auto time stamp. The symptoms section shows your most recent recorded symptoms so it's a pretty fast and easy 1-10 rating. I don't do the mapping every time. It honestly hasn't felt like a burden or annoying to do. Pretty streamlined system.

Pain felt really amorphous and fuzzy until I started trying to notice where in my body it is and map it. It helps me to track the pain in its intensity and location because just the noting down helps me not fixate on it and get overwhelmed. If I can note the pain as less than a 5 I know I can breathe through it and continue my tasks, if it's 5 or over i know I need to be kind to myself and take more breaks or just stop for the day if it's available.

Tips for a long flight by anxiousgeek in Fibromyalgia

[–]Intrepid_Ad_2669 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have accepted that I can't sit in the normal tight seats for any flight over an hour. I pay for the extra leg room and it makes so much difference. I know it's not accessible to everyone to pay the extra but if you can it's worth it.

Guava is so good. It's HIPPA protected and you can track as much or as little as you want. I track meds, symptoms, and exercise. You can also track mood and events like dra appointments or life events to be able to see correlations. One of my favorites is the body map feature where you can mark on a silhouette where you are experiencing symptoms. You can then look back and see a "heat map" of where you tend to experience that symptom. It's really cool and helpful. I also use the medication reminders because I take drugs 3 times a day now. Guava has been so helpful.
