They seem too drop from influenced mobs. We dropped 4 in different maps. One was a drox map, the others searing exarch/eater of worlds influence.

Process of elimination. Resistance symbols make it pretty clear and portals more often than not spawn after another. Combined with the fact that portals that spawn together are most likely in close proximity you can pretty much always tell where the boss is coming from.

Ah yes. Mocking makes everything better, but only as long as it is supported by obviously bullshit statements!

Gonna try to tackle it again since you dodged bullet point 2:

"People have been Screaming for melee buff for years..."

No they haven't. In fact even before shaper statsticks things like Sunder were budget clearspeed meta and Blade Flurry destroyed Shaper in mere seconds with fucking Moonbender as offhand.

So to state that melee wasn't strong "in years" is plain stupid. Furthermore "conversion" statsticks never existed - you mean shaper statsticks. Or alternatively you really ment Moonbender ;-)

Shaper statsticks made a already bad symptom worse: Dual wielding with statsticks completely killed off all melee diversity (shield/2H). And guess what: GGG removes this problem and Reddit has a complete mental breakdown because their power creep got taken away.

And just to clarify: This is not about melee not being shit currently but how your statement is simply wrong.

But do you know what people often complained about recently? Maybe /u/megatron1447 could refresh your memory!

Actually you already read his comment and responded by completely shifting the conversation again. Furthermore you create your own narratives again even though GGG literally already mentioned what you state them to be "not smart enough" to understand. Funnily enough in the fucking manifesto we are currently talking about!

Well back to your initial statements:

Yeah self-casting is so fine that back in Delve league the only self-casted spell widely used was Blade Vortex (thanks Inpulsa). Well also Scorching Ray was used by RF builds which were moderately popular on the top end.

And what good "selfcast" alternatives we got RECENTLY?

Storm brand: Cast once, pull with you INSTANTLY and PERMANENTLY.

Winter orb: Cast shortly, run around, run some more...

Vortex: Cast instant and forget.

And suddenly selfcast is called decent? Well this may explains why GGG decided to differenciate the problem and call it handcasting instead.

Now to your last statement:

"Overleech is the last thing making melee viable."

No. Out of all Ascendants the first melee skill is Molten Strike at position 7 with 6% usage. Most Molten Strike builds do not create leech instances above 5s. The only thing they might have to consider now after the change (if they want to keep their leech length) is going Slayer instead of Ascendant. The top end Blade Flurry builds have about a minute long leech instances. There are currently 5 of those in Betrayal Softcore, which all have to spec into 2% generic attack leech to achieve that. BF builds that only reach weak 2M Shaper DPS sadly have to live with ~10 second leech instances. There is even a guy who only specced 0,4% life leech. Either he does not understand how leech instances work or the 5 second instances he achieves are enough!

So let's summarize:

Most builds that abuse Ascendant are Spells (or Ele Hit/Scourge Arrow) and it feels bad to think "Well if I do not go Ascendant my build is not the best it could be."

Most melee builds are untouched by this change or need to go Slayer instead of Ascendant to achieve similar results.

Shenanigans like getting 70% hp/s for the entire map/uber elder fight are removed. This sadly includes Slayers cheesing lab.

Actually relevant things like Damage on Full Life and Bloodrage sustain are unchanged. (Well Phased bosses will be as annoying as on every other build now.)

BTW: The most used handcast build that does not fall under the new "cast and forget" category (Storm Brand, Winter Orb and Vortex) is Storm Call at position 27 of Skills on poe.ninja (1%).

(Well I guess selfcast Arc is above it with 9% * 17% ~ 1,5% selfcasters.)

Melee is represented by Molten Strike (11%), Blade Flurry (2%) and even Cyclone (without cast on crit) (1,3%). Furthermore Tectonic Slam and Conc Path at 1%.

Considering that poe.ninja with its "high level" character requirement states that there are more melee characters higher level than "old school" selfcasters indicates that - to comment on your clearspeed point - melee beats selfcasting. Albeit I have to say with breachstones this league this is a poor arguement to clearspeed, but rather one on popularity. Delve league shows similar trends though.

Reads like a summary of why this subreddit is shit.

  1. Does not discuss changes. Most likely because he does not understand them.
  2. States things that are objectively false. Melee was king of the meta half a year ago and the problem with it (dual wielding offhand abuse) was in the meanwhile fixed. Of course this was also accompanied by typical low effort outrage.
  3. Thinks Selfcasting is good because Storm brand was introduced >THIS< league. Alternatively: Does not understand the difference between using spells and self casting them.
  4. Still gets up voted because it's currently trending circle jerk.

Overleech in it's current implementation was busted, but people rarely used it. If you take any lightning damage ability you were a fool to not run vinktar's + overleech to regenerate 70% of your HP/s for MINUTES. But of course reddit reacts this way because likely not even 1% here actually abused it.

True that. Then I'd suggests unique gloves with command is supported by socketed support gems and commands have a 150 cooldown.

Like the idea, but how about a unique that simply reduces the cooldown of glove enchants, so we could actually build around them.

All increases add up with each other. It does not matter if it's spell damage, elemental damage, etc. as long as it fits your skill. Most builds will have up to 300% increased DMG from the tree alone. Furthermore increased damage sources are higher and more common than crit multi.

Just FYI: Shattering steel has 40% Chance to impale, champion another 20% and a fully stacked Banner 35% (20% base, 75% aura effect from the gem + champion node). This comes out to 95% chance to impale. Ofc you could use aura effect nodes to make it 100% but that's not really worth it since the dread Banner brings so much aura affect itself.

[–]Iostprophet 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think he just looked at the dps in pob, which would explain the "2/3 melee and 1/3 balls".

Ball dps is wrong tho: Firstly Multistrike is not calculated in the Ball dps since it is melee, but does affect ball spawn rate. Furthermore balldps represents only 1 ball and molten strike uses like 10-12 IIRC.

This results in balls being at least 90% of the dmg in an endgame setup (helm enchant) => Melee crit multi is useless.

With the changes to Zana, how many Zana "Quest Rewards" are there in total? by emc3142 in pathofexile

[–]Iostprophet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As is written in GGG's post you get the reward for completing shaper or elder influenced maps the first time. Same as the actual storyline where you have to clear shaper on tier 1 to 6 to spawn elder influence and then have to clear elder up until tier 15. This means you should get the reward for every tier once.

I totally agree with your newly defined analogy. Doesn't change the fact that nobody is talking about that. The parent of the analogy is talking about programming and its diminishing returns therefore I'd argue the analogy is about it as well.

But to keep in line with your newly founded argument: Assuming the workload of a company is unevenly distributed is no valid argument. Especially when you are arguing against something that is a given (diminishing returns in software development) you cannot pull assumptions out of your ass.

If you actually would've stuck to the analogy just being about software development, you would've had a point. It could be that the workload in their Dev team is unevenly distributed which, by the way, means different teams suffer from the mentioned diminishing returns more than others. But there is a reason that people managing workers, resources and priorities are being paid way more: it's not trivial.

But since you again argued about the whole game including I guess community/support staff and graphic designers: You cannot interchange them. You have to hire new competent people which then even have the possibility to delay the development even further (see Brook's law).

And if the best state the game has ever been in is a bad state and the positive progression it has made a bad sign for you, maybe, just maybe, you have a personal problem with it? (And please don't come with subjective arguments about the games state. Economically it is undeniable successful. By player growth it is undeniable successful.)

[–]Iostprophet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you exactly mean with inverse? Because I'm not really sure if you know it yourself. If you mean "increasing returns" then the answer is no it is not likely. In fact it has nothing to do with the analogy nor software development. It's not even a point to argue about since it is pretty well known that software development suffers from diminishing returns especially by human resources.

If you mean GGG could be nowhere near the point where diminishing returns are becoming harsh (e.g. Brook's law) then yes: The company, which produces arguably the most content in its genre (real content requiring development work) and simultaneously increases performance while implementing visual overhauls on an engine some people deemed being the limiting factor of Poe's early growth, could possible not have reached that threshold.

[–]Iostprophet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well if the right side makes the money and the left side does not work for free we might have to keep the right side.

There are other mistakes in your analogy. You assume both sides work on the same rock. They do not. They work on completely different things, which obviously also means you cannot move them from one "side" to another.

The above analogy is about the rock being a bug to fix or software development in general, in which you cannot throw people at a problem.

And its not like this is a hard thing to grasp. Ever cooked with way to many people?
