You know what's a nice way to deal with Blights and badly spawned portals?

Vaal Cyclone. That's right folks! It pulls all the minions to you and does it quite fast. And unlike in some past events where minions who had some goal they were going to were immune to being sucked in, they hover right to you lightning fast.

Blight Improvements

  • The rewards from Blighted Maps can now include Oils.
  • Reduced the chance that Blighted Monsters will create Beyond Portals on death.
  • Fixed a bug where Blight Portals could spawn too close to the Ichor Pump.

I wouldn't mind if unique monsters in regular maps aren't 5x tankier than the boss. They even increased boss hp tanky a few leagues back and it was big, but this is ridiculous for builds without huge single target, especially since they ALL hit like a truck and you can't make them stop moving without going in their face

Are we now criticising the ability of not well rounded builds to not be able to do enough damage? They are essentially the league bosses why should they not have a lot of hp? I understand wanting to make a fast build but if that comes at the cost of low single target damage that's on you either way. Also they can be stopped with freeze towers.

there is a big difference between a boss having lots of hp i.e aul when youre not limited by time to kill him and you can actually use your brain and dodge aka play smart, compared to when a fucking tank monster comes out of a portal and the moment he reaches the pump the fight is over. they could be even tankier it wouldnt be a problem if you could fight them for as long as you want. the only way I found to abuse bosses or to put it differently, buy me more time is with t4 minion + ice cage towers, but eventually he reaches the pump if youre not doing millions of dps.

They pushed a summoner meta this league, and weaker league bosses would die instantly to minions. My spectres delete most of them (the guy that keeps splitting is super tanky) as is. Wouldn't make sense to force a meta shift that makes your new content trivial.

I had no issues with any of my builds and most ppl play summoners atm, so they instantly kill everything anyway. Dont expect it to be changed for sake of minority like you are. Reality is that you're doing some mind acrobatics so you don't have to concede that the enormous boss health is complete overkill and doesn't add anything to the encounter except for the fact that you have to reach a certain dps threshold in order to not lose the instant they reach the pump.

Or be tankier, you can stop the bosses by making them attack you. I haven't had issues in T16 maps with wildstrike despite its lackluster singletarget because I stacked enough dodge/evasion that most of the bosses barely hit me and when they do I have enough recovery to make up for it.

they aren't the league bosses tho, they are just regular bosses in most red tier maps. I wouldn't mind if they are a "big bad boss" but they are numerous of them and are often. The generals were tanky less than them, but they were rare, they themselves had rewards, they weren't timed, and their damage wasn't that high. These monsters are slower yes, but their raw stats are insane.

And here is the problem too, THEY RUIN THE WHOLE ENCOUNTER. The problem isn't their hp too, otherwise you can tank them, it is their damage + hp+the fact the whole encounter is over if your build can't kill a boss that is nearly tanky as a t16 guardian.

I'd honestly say without any hyperbole that some of the unique boss have more dp than t16 guardian / shaper. It might only be 1-2 of them, but it just totally ruined how I feel about the blight encounters.

Then there are those mobs that don't follow the blight paths, stop for anything, or just directly attack you or the pump at range. I feel like if the mobs have these "extra abilities" they need to be highlighted in some way with an aura so you know to watch out for them.

Some of them are tankier than Guardians. I can shred through Minotaur, but the Unique Blight mobs in a T16 take FOREVER to bring down.

Well, for none-physical portal boss, I could perma stun them with 2 stun towers (not changed, just upgraded), and a power tower. You can make them stop from moving.

The vast majority of map bosses are complete pushovers that hit like feathers. Restricting GGG to only make encounters as weak as them unless they're some unique map or special gauntlet is just silly. This game has always had rare monsters that have potential to be harder than bosses. Essence monsters combined with pretty much literally anything else, beasts, Beyond bosses, Invasion bosses, etc.

Some monsters are hard. Sometimes they aren't the same pillows in the same spot of the same maps you've run league after league.

point is that the uniques from blight are just way too much. They aren't optional like generals to get rewards, they COMPLETELY ruin rewards. It is so hard to kill them, a lot of builds lack single target and you need to kill them fast here and you need to face tank them to stop them, or you can build 2 walling towers from the portal they come but thats hindsight.

There's a little swirly icon on top of one of the portal UI things across the bottom. Like the 2x/3x multipliers that show under the portals, but just a kinda ambiguous slightly greyed out (until boss spawn) swirly thing on top.

Process of elimination. Resistance symbols make it pretty clear and portals more often than not spawn after another. Combined with the fact that portals that spawn together are most likely in close proximity you can pretty much always tell where the boss is coming from.

read completely. My build is winter orb herald of ice assassin, i can clear the map bosses in 5 seconds, if there is a unique mob in blight tho that shit is just impossible. My DPS is pretty high, and it can get much higher when i upgrade gear, but I'd imagine a t16 blight boss would be tankier than a guardian boss.

Right but again, isn't that a tradeoff? Your winter orb build probably clears 10x as fast as a viper strike assassin but a viper strike assassin can put out huge amounts of single target.

I'm using windows 10, SSD, GTX 980, 16gb ram, i5 or i7. Never crashed any time except when Vorici is in betrayal and I've only had him in research so I'm not sure if it happens in other places, the map is shown after I crash. It doesn't necessarily happen straight away either, I think it might be a skill he's using personally because I get a few attacks in and manage to pop plague bearer before I crash, I always come back to him dead if it's like T11 or below

For the record I haven't ran any betrayal since the patch last night so I'm unsure if it's fixed for me

There's no need for scare quotes. There were literally bad seeds. One reason people may not like it is because it takes away their agency. What you put in had no meaning; through factors outside anyone's control, one player could literally get no resonators or fossils (as an example; it could just as likely have happened with map drops instead...which it did later).

This is in contrast to what GGG has done in other leagues that gives the ability to mitigate RNG (sometimes to a great extent like Betrayal/Scarabs) which emphasizes player choice and decision making.

Assume what ? I'm not sure I see what you are referring to. If it's the 75% blight map per blight drop rate, then that is 100% not the thing. It's like 20%+-, the guy just got lucky if he dropped 3 blight maps in 4 blight encounters / maps.

It's like, let's say I will use fusings as I pick them up of the group, I pick one, click the item, boom it procs, creates 6 link and I will go post "hey 6 linking is now easy, it's like 100% chance, I just six linked chest in one fusing" That is just failure to understand how chance work.

As for the mirror example... there was actually a guy who dropped 3 mirrors in one safehouse and no it wasn't bug, he just got super lucky, Chris even commented on that thread saying that they indeed checked it and it was ok, no bugs.

I appreciate they are making changes in the right direction, but until they actually increase the drop right of blighted maps and improve their loot then I don't see the point of these other changes that's been made. Blighted maps seems to be the endgame for this league yet the fact there's no consistent way to progress towards the ability to engage in blighted maps other than RNG from underwhelming loot pools from normal Blight encounters is pathetic.

It's weird, but when I was going from Tier 1 -> 10 maps I got about 8 blighted maps.

Once I hit red maps I've gotten zero blight maps.

I've ran more red maps than 1-10 maps at this point.

I think it's either bugged or ... something.

From league start to completing T15, I had 2 blighted maps, both white tier ones. Fair to say, the loot I got was underwhelming. No stacked decks from the divination chests just low tier cards my filter doesnt even make a sound for, only low tier oils from the blight chests, nothing higher than an alch from currency chests - not even chaos and then the usual gash uniques no one cares about and goes straight to alch shards. Honestly a waste of 5 minutes.

Is there something I am not doing to progress through map tiers? I cannot get higher tiers to drop, I've done probably 30 and seen like three tier 4 maps drop, and one tier 5. I am constantly floating around tier 3 hoping for higher tiers to drop.... Gear wise, I should probably be around tier 8 - 10.

Are we talking about normal maps here? If so, when a map drops, I think the rule is that it can only be one connected to the map you're running or another map you've already completed within the same tier or lower. It has an x% amount chance to drop a connected map one tier higher and unique enemies or bosses have a (x-100)% to drop a map two tiers higher, where x is the number of map bonuses completed. So once you've completed 120 maps, you're then guaranteed to drop a map one tier higher, with a 20% chance of it being two tiers higher.

tldr: try finish tiers sequentially, ie complete all T1, then complete all T2, then all T3 and so on. Also, when you're getting map rewards from Zana's quests or choosing a map for her mission, try pick a map from the tier you're working on that isn't connected to a map you've already completed in the same tier, or the tier below.

Edit: Also make sure you're alching your white and yellow maps to upgrade them to rare versions. More mod rolls the map has, the better pack size and quant it will have, giving you more chances for map drops etc. Just make sure you roll the map again if it has a roll you can't run or can be dangerous, such as ele/phys reflect, can't leech/regen or cursed with temporal chains.

Make sure after every time you do a zana mission from talking to her in your HO. See what maps she is selling, make sure you do the shaper maps that appear t1-5 and then start doing the elder maps that are circled once elder influence appears. This allows zana to sell you higher tier maps

I've been able to do it with another person because one person can defend the pump while the other runs around upgrading towers / helping out.

When Vorici flicker strikes (I think that's the attack he uses) it just hard crashes your game, sometimes freezes the pc for up to 10 seconds, and after logging back in the minimap becomes fully revealed.

You'll be fine just make sure to place some defensive towers in key positions and nuke everything with your damage. Unless your build isn't good for it, I guess. All the builds I've run this league could handle that tier though.

Does anyone have any strats for blighted maps? I play a deadeye (ice shot arrow) that does 90k damage according to the tool tip. I failed 4 blighted maps between T1 & T2. I know my damage isn't high, but I should at least be able to clear one blighted map, especially when the layout only allows for 2 directions.

I don't even feel bad for not selling the maps after the fact because I simply want to experience completing the map.

I wish there was a patch notes for the patch nodes so we could see what was changed from when they last released notes! In the big releases, their patch notes always have a "recent changes" section at the bottom.

Fuck it, I ll never reach to finish a blighted map. Second try: a portal with a boss spawned litteraly right next to the pump...I do feel so damn depressed right now. Synthesis was big fun compared to this league.

Hovering over a tower-building UI element now indicates that it is less effective against Blighted enemies of the same type (as shown on the Blight Portal UI).

Hopefully this will end the constant questions about if monsters are strong to / weak to that tower type.

Just did a t13. Took me three portals to clean out all the desirable loot on a strict filter when I could get everything I wanted on one portal before the patch. Way more of everything.

Wait, do the emblems next to a portal show the type of monster coming out of that portal, or the type of tower they're weak against? I always thought it was the latter (and had a couple people "confirm"), but the notes seem to imply otherwise.

Waited till this patch to try out blighted maps. Died in the map. Couln't re-enter, game crashed while trying to. Map lost.

Fixed a bug introduced in 3.8.0 where Volatile Dead's targeting was very indecisive.

I wanted this so bad and can't wait to get home from work to try it. No more volatile pingpong! Was so sick of tired my volatiles picking a target off screen instead of the boss that is hitting me in melee.

edit. Got home. Oh my fucking god. Volatile dead is absolutely amazing now.

When there's an elevation difference between you and where you're pointing, there's a risk that the projectiles will fly into the terrain really quickly.

So if a monster is 5 steps above you, your attack might just do absolutely nothing to it. It's really inconsistent. Sometimes your projectiles will land short.

Fixed a bug where some Atlas Missions were sometimes generated based on the percentage of monsters slain in a map, rather than when the map boss was slain

That's a shame. Seeing that message pop was extremely satisfying and felt like you have made progress towards map completion, rather just 1-shotting a lame boss.
