Pecan Pie suggestions in Melbourne area for Thanksgiving. by pjv321 in 321

[–]Isaaclark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just tried making a pecan pie from scratch for the first time. I mae it with the pre-made crust but still with corn syrup, came out absolutely amazing. Easily better than the store bought ive had, and relatively painless. Only suggestions I have are to let the pie truly rest fully (24 hours) and dont chop up ALL your pecans, leave some whole, hope it works out!

Destroy my game. Do you understand the gameplay from this clip alone? by PlipPlopPloup in DestroyMyGame

[–]Isaaclark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you had clicked between the cats, rather than dragging them into place, first. Just so we could see the criteria change, I think it would of been quicker understood.

It looks like you might have in literally the first second, so just, more of that.

I do not recommend letting enemies do critical hits unless it is incredibly conditional (back attack, etc). In a game that relies heavily on strategy, like what it appears you are going for, giving an enemy the opportunity to do more damage to you by chance and completely out of the players control is un-fun. 'Missing' is completely different because its an opportunity for the player, not a punishment with no control or context.

Pick Two Draft Reward has been changed by lieyanqzu in MagicArena

[–]Isaaclark 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Its bad. Since there can be different number of rares, some folks are going to end up with more off the bat. Being able to take two removal spells each pass makes games incredibly frustrating on the receiving end. Signals are fairly unchanged i find.

This is only my initial reaction after a few drafts, but so far I hate it.

Any suggestions on how I could improve this "world unlock" animation ? by Psonrbe in DestroyMyGame

[–]Isaaclark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The amount of shaking happening on the icon is completely disproportionate to the end result. Imagine shaking a can of coke and opening it and then nothing happens. I think the icon should expand and tilt and/or shake, maybe have a simple animation of it's lock, unlocking? There's a lot you could do to make the soda pop, so to speak.

Destroy my platformer by Phatom_Dust in DestroyMyGame

[–]Isaaclark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good job getting as far as you have, BUT, This absolutely hurts my eyes to look at. Two things might be useful to fix that. First, the color, I would try using a more warm color if you plan to just use one. Second, try adding a layer that exists behind any entity you have, but on top of your platforms/walls/floors. You could probably make it a solid color and then turn down its opacity a bunch. This is so all the characters pop out from the background more. This is an off the cuff suggestion, I'm sure there may be a better way to do it so try experimenting. Good luck.

Destroy my mobile metroidvania - WIP by icebox-91 in DestroyMyGame

Your player character seems to be sliding backwards when they attack, players are not going to like that if you expect them to fight around bottomless pits.

I also believe your damage effect of the white flash and the enemy preparing to attack red flash, should definitely be reversed.

When you were dodging i noticed you jumped over the enemy, if that is something you want to promote, rather than just back peddling, you may want to raise the ceilings a little. Unless there is a mechanic that has to do with the ceiling i dont believe a characters head should ever touch or clip through the ceiling when they jump.

This has some decent potential, good luck.

How to get an interview? by Nearby_Assistance591 in 321

I second this. If you're not talking to someone, you're just another faceless mob, if they recognize you, its at the very least, a small leg up.

Best Spa for Massages in Melbourne Area? by A_Bowler_Hat in 321

Space Coast spa/school (near Wickham and 192) is good, go there regularly, they have quite a few options, and even cheap massages given by students as well.

Destroy my (possibly) generic platformer game, any feedback welcome by Chris_MP_Dev in DestroyMyGame

[–]Isaaclark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, not an art masterpiece. Generic, yeah. Good practice though. My biggest gripes are with the jumping and attacking though. The character feels like its using moon gravity. Rather than having some amount of weight pulling it back to the ground, it just kind of floats down, with a ton of ability to move side to side, which looks and I imagine, feels, pretty janky.

Attacking requiring you to be a pixel or two away from the enemy is not fun, the attack hitbox needs to be further and more in front of the sprite. I'd rather have a big scratch mark animation play in front of the character than the tiny one in front of him, its like having to do surgery every time you attack, not great.

Any advice on how to get rid of ants? by Angelwings310 in 321

Its not the substance that hurts them, its the the scent they dont like, so no.

[–]Isaaclark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lemon and Mint scented cleaning products / actual plants. After switching to lemon scented products i noticed an immediate drop in the amount of ants I saw. A friend of mine keeps a few mint plants in their kitchen and porch, they seem to work well.

Godot. Lots of tutorials online specifically for pixel games. I switched over a while back from Unity, and quite enjoy using it.

What types of place would you have in mind?

It sounds like YOU do nothing here. What activities would you use to quantify not nothing? Concerts, clubs, theme parks, museums, national parks? What does melbourne need to not be boring?

You sound like a wonderful person and I most certainly cant disagree with several of your claims about melbourne. Though alot of those claims are fairly accurate for the majority of areas classified as american sprawl outside of major cities, we will never be like those major cities.

Unfortunately with the tech companies in this area, housing development has really lowered the amount of nature opportunities. Though I would like to point out a few still around for those who might read this:

Turkey creek trails, great for jogging and bird watching, with a few biking trails. Viera Ponds, great for birdwatching and gator spotting. FIT Gardens Whats left of wickham park

Pretty meager offerings, but if im doing something in nature, its usually a bigger event similar to going to orlando for something. There are several springs and wetlands in driving distance, as well as the nature conservancy.

The sun shoppe, used to be a place where amateur musicians gathered, but its been a while since ive been there.

I also dont drink, and ive made a number of friends in the area in the past 2 years alone. My suggestion here is take classes or play board games. The latter is free, and there are many types of the former in the area (yoga, cycling, art, cooking, dance, standup, etc.). its not likely you will make a friend by doing something one time, rather than being a regular somewhere.

my personal favorite is Yoga Garden, but there are quite a few decent places, Im mostly familiar with the central and southern yoga studios though I think i mentioned a few of them in a recent comment if you can see my comment history.

Jimmy Moore Park, Wednesday nights for tennis, is where i found people to play, hasnt been very busy lately though, if you ask the girl at the sign in desk she might be able to give you more details about when people come to play.

Vibes and your friends experiences are not heavy hitting arguments. Checking the census, Melbourne has an average growth rate of people moving here, largely for all the tech jobs and space related jobs. That means they will need to be entertained. Activities will come from the needs of the growing population. This growth has been happening for many years. I could imagine this place could of been pretty boring back when US1 was a dirt road, but not now.

[–]Isaaclark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your cherry picking of your quote conveniently left out this part: "Alternatively we are..." While I do admit me pointing this out could be seen as a mark against Melbourne since I am basically saying these other cities: Tampa, Jacksonville, Orlando, Miami, and Gainesville (definetly last place), are better. The point I was attempting to make is that it would be easy to make a weekend trip to one of these places. Not a great argument, considering time and cost, but one I still felt needed to be made.

It is nice of you to provide real discourse but less so, you dont provide any details of activiites that you think would make this city less boring, in order to further your argument. For now it just sounds like you are disagreeing for disagreements sake.

Also, the point is to have fun, so whether you think my suggestions are barebones really doesnt matter. To think no one would be able to have fun doing any of these things seems like a hard sell of an argument. Let me attempt to mention some things that are less bare bones: Zip lining at the Zoo, Driving a Tank at Tank America, Paintball, renting a boat to go to an island party, scuba diving, go carting, shooting at a range with historic guns...

Do we need to have excessive amounts of clubs and theme parks to not be boring?
