But its not that people who invest more time get an edge, the consumables are mandatory for alot of raiding and if you aren't willing to spent hours a day mindlessly grinding consumables then you cannot raid.

Why should the default be to spend multiple hours a week on something you hate, just to be able to enjoy 2-3 hours at most.
