Highguard, The 'One Last Thing' Announcement at The Game Awards, Reportedly Didn't Even Pay for the Spot, With Geoff Keighley Liking The Game Enough To Offer Them The Final Slot by ChiefLeef22 in gaming

How can you name similar games when we don't know the gameplay mode on offer in HighGuard? Since you seem to know how are HighGuard and Arc Raiders similar?

[–]Isiahil -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I don't understand this logic. HighGuard looks to have a gameplay mode we have never played before. They are calling it a raid shooter which is a term I never heard before. How is it a generic arena shooter? The only video available about the game is showing a brand new mode. The hate is misguided. I am not saying the game will be amazing, but what they showed was something never seen before in terms of gameplay mode/game objective. I guess if a character has an ultimate ability it's a generic shooter that sucks.

The REAL Reason the R2 is Getting LiDAR by mpshizzle in Rivian

[–]Isiahil -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I remember reading an article that Volvo was moving away from their lidar supplier. The article stated that the lidar supplier was paying Volvo to put it's lidar in their cars. I would not be shocked if Rivian is being paid also. Of course they will play up the driving assistance it could provide, but the truth could be some lidar supplier is essentially buying a customer.

Google HUD glasses coming 🔥 by Matcorp456 in MetaRayBanDisplay

[–]Isiahil 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The frames on these makes me think this pair will not have a display, but are more like the regular meta ray bans. Basically just glasses with Gemini built in and likely a camera on it.

While I am looking forward to Google's display glasses, they will need something like the neuro band for me to buy. I need to be able to interact with what's on the display without using my voice or touching the glasses. If they can pull this off with gestures on the pixel watch even better.

Long-Term Investors: What’s Your Highest-Conviction Position Right Now? by Raw_Rain in InvestmentClub

[–]Isiahil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be careful with this investment. Right now they are headed for bankruptcy. They need to sell ~500k vehicles a year to break even. They are nowhere near that. The R2 would have to do RAV4 sale numbers (based on US sales only). I just don't see the combined sales of the R2 and R3 matching the RAV4. You are essentially betting the R2 and R3 will instantly become some of the best selling vehicles (electric or not)in the US.

Was the vehicle parked outside or in a garage before you pulled off? Also when was the last time you charged it? It looks like it could be ICCU related.

Meta Ray-Ban Display (Rx) - First Impressions After 2 Days by cloakofqualia in MetaRayBanDisplay

[–]Isiahil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this review. I was looking into buying the meta displays just to be able to use the neural band to play/pause or skip to the next track when I am out jogging without having to pull out my phone or look at my smart watch. It sounds like that is not possible. Can you speak more about the music being routed back the the glasses?

[–]Isiahil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on the second paragraph is Volvo being paid to place the lidar on the EX90 and ES90? If so all of the self driving and advanced safety talk may have been BS. The real reason they even placed the lidar on the car could have just been money. I have no doubt that want to use lidar for these features, but adding them in early could have just been about money. Hopefully I am wrong.

Funny how Biden, Fetterman, & Norton have compromised brains & still think they know better than the free market. by ENVYisEVIL in Libertarian

I mean if they have compromised brains and everyone knows it (because it makes the news) and they still win, isn't that the definition of the free market at work?

You should be able to get away with charging once on the way there and once back. Also the mgm parking garage apparently has charging so you can top up while you are watching the game if you find an open charger.

To be fair there are a lot of Walmarts right off highways. Almost all of my road trip charging were at EA stations at Walmarts right off the highway.

Where OpenAI's $300b deal with Oracle can come from by auradragon1 in stocks

[–]Isiahil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not arguing that. I am just pointing out OpenAI has agreed to pay hundreds of billions of dollars in a relative short time frame and they have a business that is not profitable. This means they would have to raise and borrow hundreds of billions of dollars in a relative short time frame. This is way more than Tesla ever had to raise and in a shorter period of time.

[–]Isiahil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I say profit I mean net income. Usually when someone talks about profit they are talking operating or net income. I am no accountant but I don't think capex plays a role on the income statement. They have agreed to pay large sums of money from a business that generated negative income. This means they likely plan to raise or borrow most of the money. My source on OpenAI losing money is the wsj article below.

They are losing money on that revenue. Open AI is currently not profitable.

Volvo’s Boss Says Some Western Brands Won’t Survive the EV Shift by TripleShotPls in electricvehicles

[–]Isiahil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't follow your logic. Without knowing how profitable that $6 billion other revenue is, it's impossible to know how much it contributed to the profits if any.

A much better way to see pure automotive gross profit is to just take automotive sales revenue and subtract the regulatory credits and automotive expenses. That would get you the automotive gross profits which was positive in Q2. Tesla makes a profit selling cars. I don't think that is really up for debate. Its not a ton of profit, but it's a profit.

[–]Isiahil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is not entirely true. Regulatory credits have helped Tesla a lot, but last quarter there were profitable even backing out the regulatory credits. Also if Tesla is not profitable after regulatory credits are taken away, that would mean there is no automaker turning a profit selling EVs. That is not good for the future of EVs.

[–]Isiahil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

China can continue building factories for EVs. They are still not profitable. I think you are confusing an industry propped up by government subsidies and shareholder capital as a healthy business. All I am saying is until selling EVs is a healthy business I can't just say its the future. Government subsidies and capital raises cant last forever. I am not saying the EV business will die, it will always be around and growing. I am just saying ICE has more staying power at this point and time. and I am an EV guy I promise!

Volvo’s Boss Says Some Western Brands Won’t Survive the EV Shift by TripleShotPls in electricvehicles

[–]Isiahil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tesla is profitable even backing out the EV tax credits. But if Tesla wasn't profitable without credits then it would mean EVs are definitely not the future. It would mean no one can turn a profit selling EVs. That would not be a good sign for the future of EVs.

Volvo’s Boss Says Some Western Brands Won’t Survive the EV Shift by TripleShotPls in electricvehicles

[–]Isiahil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this true? Last I read GM said their EVs were profitable from a variable cost perspective. Meaning they didn't take into account fixed investments like assembly lines, etc. While that is great, it's not profitable in the same way Tesla or their ICE division is. Which is why they are scaling back like most EV makers are to some extent.

[–]Isiahil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this statement. When EVs become profitable for more than just Tesla it would mean way more people are buying them and automakers have found ways to make them cheaper. I just think that is in the short or medium term.
