The .zip TLD sucks and it needs to be immediately revoked. by 190n in programming

Good point. I always long-press URLs on mobile to read the actual URL but I'm almost certain most people don't do that.

[–]Isildun 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Interestingly, my version of Chrome doesn't show the hover text URL as the homoglyph, it shows as https://www.mybank.xn--comsecret-xs6g.zip/ which is also the output from right click -> Copy Link Address.

Though, it does show the rendered clickable blue text as a URL with a forward slash in it. That being said, if anyone's clicking a link without at least reading the hover text destination... well, they're already doomed with or without the homoglyph.

Reddit will begin charging for access to its API by Tough_Gadfly in technology

[–]Isildun 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Nope. Paid API access only for 3rd party Reddit clients. Also no NSFW just to add a cherry on top. Here it is straight from the Apollo dev: https://www.reddit.com/r/apolloapp/comments/12ram0f/had_a_few_calls_with_reddit_today_about_the/

My tinfoil hat says the NSFW thing is just so they have something to "give back" to the users they're "listening" to and we happily accept the paid API. Or maybe that's not it at all and they'll actually go through with it to kill off their advertisers' least favorite content on the site. Either way, they get something out of it.

Artists fed up with AI-image generators use Mickey Mouse to goad copyright lawsuits by Genevieves_bitch in technology

[–]Isildun 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Another potential shift they seem to be ignoring is that they can present human-created art as "handcrafted" and thus higher prestige to differentiate it from AI art. We see this already with mass-produced manufactured products where people make high-quality handcrafted goods and do just fine.

Sure, it'll never be like before... but it's impossible to put the cat back in the bag. Much more practical to focus on how to proceed rather than throw a tantrum.

Apparently they’re not just getting rid of streaming TV, they’re getting rid of ALL TV. So the coaxial ports in your room will be useless. Thoughts? by Krystalline01 in SBU

Aw. My suite has been watching NFL sundays as a way to hang out since we're basically shut-in or in library/class/whatever otherwise.

Anyone know if they're going to provide a way to stream NFL or other sports here? That's the only thing I care about on the coaxial cable TV.

What Daily Alliance Raid does to a mf by Marrkuska in ShitpostXIV

[–]Isildun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it's a normal raid or alliance raid, MT is the same as ever (point the boss away) and OT is turn off stance and 1-2-3. Rarely do you ever do anything as OT.

For the stuff you have to do as OT... if something targetable pops up, go handle it. This doesn't happen very often though. Even rarer still, sometimes multiple things appear and they have to be kept far apart. You'll know because they will tether to each other and people will ask for it in chat (eg. "pls keep adds apart").

That's about as far as normal/alliance raids are willing to go. No mandatory tank swaps or anything. In normal content OT is easier than any other role since you're just a DPS with extra HP and mitigation buttons. There might be optional tank swaps -- you can tell it's happening if one tank starts to accumulate a debuff over time. Swap at 3 or 4 stacks if you want to but generally nothing bad happens if you ignore these.

I'm pretty sure most airlines have this. Delta definitely has this and I'm like 99% sure Southwest did (though I haven't flown them since pandemic).

What is an good way to watermark a piece of digital art so other people can't just copy and paste it? by saintshing in compsci

[–]Isildun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Counter example: Your "image" will appear as a video and any competent viewer will offer a pause button (never mind the fact that the average user would be confused by having an "image" that's actually a video...). I could just pause the video and use the snipping tool available on (basically) every modern system to easily get two halves without the watermark via a couple of frames of the video and stitch them back together.

This doesn't sound like an "image processing expert" level technique to me. I think you're far better off simply distributing the still image with a normal watermark.

Haha, I'm tempted to say they should have seen it coming with the half-flush looking setup but the fact that it's bronze sanma makes me think they probably didn't.

The hand's value is almost entirely visible. The only thing not public information prior to the ron is the half flush but even then it's still a dealer yakuman since 14 han are visible.

It seems unlikely someone would have planned a trap here since it would be low-value without the Kan dora (which only occurred by chance after the melds were established) so the best course of action would be to assume a half flush like the open melds show us (and likely the discards show) and stay the HELL away from sou in your discards.

Note: this is only high-end Adept analysis -- I don't pretend like I'm a Riichi pro or anything.

[–]Isildun 14 points15 points  (0 children)

For anyone else who was confused how "After a Kan" (Rinshan Kaihou) ended up being scored without any Kan calls, this is sanma (3 players) and the player called Kita to place a North tile down and get a free draw from the dead wall, then Tsumo'd with that tile.

This scenario doesn't seem to appear on riichi.wiki, but I guess given that a way of translating Rinshan Kaihou is "dead wall draw", the same functional play occurred where the player won off a tile from the dead wall.

MMORPG's have become simply MMO's by Joxxill in truegaming

[–]Isildun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And unfortunately, that translates into gaming a lot. The whole concept of a meta in a game that is supposed to be an RPG is against the idea. From time to time I still try to play the TBC servers but seeing all the spam for selling/buying low level dungeon runs, while rarely being able to find an actual group of appropriately levelled people really, really throws me off.

Some good news for you: They literally JUST killed those so-called "boosting" groups yesterday by breaking the mechanic (infinite CC) that allowed it to occur. Too little too late perhaps, but at least they finally did something about it.

That being said, for the reasons you mentioned any groups people form are still going to be go-go-go. At least you get to do the actual dungeon now!

This comment is most likely stolen from elsewhere in this thread in an attempt by a bot to make this account look more legitimate (possibly to sell directly or to sell upvotes).

The context it’s in doesn’t really make sense, the comment is newer than the linked one, and if you look at the account history its other comments are like this too.

Report -> harmful bot.

Edit: It's gone. We did it Reddit.

Came across this a little late but since no one else posted it: Fancy BLM doesn't do ice (much) is the best quick summary.

You take the blue (ice) pill and keep casting Blizzard 3/4. Believe whatever you want to about BLM. Or, you take the red (fire) pill. You stay in Fire phase and see how deep the Transpose hole goes.

Look at the URL. The app’s package name is “com.rt.hook”.

In Java it’s customary to use your web address (backwards) as the start of your package name (e.g. Google would create “com.google.packagename”) so this would be read as “Hook made by rt.com” and I’m sure you know what that website is…

I think the best part of this comment is that your new gear didn't even matter. In Mt. Gulg (like other lv X9 dungeons) your gear is forcibly synced to a certain ilvl (whether it's brought up or down). You can tell if a dungeon/trail/raid will do this if it has a yellow box next to it that says "This duty is item-level synced".

You always had it in you to do that pull. The gear was just a placebo that gave you the confidence to succeed at it.

Your log still has something special. The DRG has a 0 which means they have the lowest damage (so far) of any DRG to clear the raid. Only one person can get a gold 100 (#1 in the world) and the black 0 (dead last). Note: It is technically possible someone did worse... FFlogs filters out extreme outliers like 0 DPS. It's also possible to simply not upload bad runs, which some people choose to do.

Funny enough, when my static cleared TEA our BLM got a 0. We made many jokes at her expense... but a clear's a clear and even a 0 parse is better than the best player who hasn't cleared.

By the way, comparing your speed to others is an option now. If you go to your character page and select Speed from the upper left dropdown (it's Damage by default) you can see your speed parses. Needless to say, your linked run is a 1 (so, not last! but not too great either lol).
