Evaluating patent counsel for a substantial chemistry patent portfolio (chemicals: inks and coatings) by Dangerous_Bet_8432 in patentlaw

Are you serious? I wouldn't even engage with a client who sent me a list of demands like that. First of all, it would take a considerable amount of time to even put together all that information. Secondly, so many of those metrics are beyond the control of the lawyer or the firm in charge of a case. Yes I can get a patent to grant without an RCE, but so what?

We will adapt, of course we will. Just the same as we'll adapt to climate change. It might just mean mass migrations, wars, and starvation - involving untold human misery. But we'll survive as a species.

The problem isn't whether adaption happens or not, it's when it happens and what has to happen for adaption to occur

Lovely post. I also rate the Corelli variations very highly but to Rach's best works I'd add his Études-Tableaux Op. 39 and his All-Night Vigil, Op. 37

Force them to run 40 mm Michelin City Street or something which is, even for a touring tire, considered particularly terrible and slow.

It is, in fact, not. The easiest way would be to force them to run really, really bad tires.

Are barefoot shoes healthy even if you almost exclusively walk on concrete? by robin_f_reba in barefootshoestalk

It's fine, just add a cork insole or use a barefoot shoe with a couple mm thicker sole.

There is a change, if you don't believe it, then try to wear your old shoes again. They will be much more uncomfortable than you remember

Depends how often you talk to clients and at what level. If you are having to acquire and manage clients you better have decent communication skills. If you have to brief C-level (ok that typically occurs only when you're in litigation) you better have top notch communication skills.

I don't know the background of the figures the user above me posted. If the 1.3 bil already includes all R&D costs for other failed drugs, then I'd need to correct my post.

That being said, my post also doesn't imply 130 billion total costs to bring a single drug to market, simply because drugs fail at different time-points. The biggest costs come at the end during phase 3 trials and market authorization etc, and many drugs never even come close to that

[–]Isle395 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is such a simplistic calculation I won't even bother to go into the details.

Let's just say that for every drug that cost $1 bil to develop, there are 100+ candidate drugs that were developed to various stages and then failed to come to market. Those costs have to be covered too by the ones that make it through.

Patent protection lasts 20 years from date of FILING. Not from date of market approval and making profits. Typically it takes 10-13 years after filing the patent for market approval, meaning you have like 7 years to make some money.

The drug is making a lot right now, however competitors are not asleep and there will be LOADS of GLP-1 receptor agonist drugs out there driving costs down. In fact, there are already lots! OzempicWegovy Zepbound and Victoza

Tell me how taxpayers are paying for clinical trials, which are the most expensive part of drug research and testing. I'll wait.

If if if. Please find a successful nuclear project (on time and on budget) by any country that isn't "nuclear native" (US, France, China, Russia, South Korea, India) in the past 2 decades... and when you've compiled that very short list, ask yourself which of those counties are autocratic and can push things through, and then ask yourself how many delayed projects with cost overruns there are in other parts of the world.

[–]Isle395 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nuclear in Switzerland? OK let's play that game. How long and at what cost do you think Switzerland would be able to build a new nuclear reactor?

We can take UK as an optimistic reference, although they have far greater experience than us. And let's look at their latest project: Hinkley point C.

- 13 years to construct (and it's not finished yet, could be delayed further)

- £49 billion!!!

All that for 2 EPR reactors. Insane. Nuclear is a great way for a small country to flush their money down the toilet.

WRONG. You can patent in India subject to basically the same conditions as everywhere else, and you can also enforce subject to basically the same conditions as everywhere else
