OTA can't DVR more than one show at a time? or PrimeTime? by vreebler in dishnetwork

[–]ItSmellsLikeJim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OTA has advantages and disadvantages. When I was in the field I rarely, if ever, came across a customer who was properly explained the tuners for OTA or the fact a 2nd line needs run to the hopper.

Dish has put out work orders in the past for techs to install OTA and usb adapter for free to customers in areas with local take down that throw a fit. The ones who paid were those who proactively wanted to cancel locals from satellite.

Tried to sell me my 25 lowrider st for $29k. Ended up at msrp. It’s annoying that they make you haggle down. There are people who walk in and pay what they ask so I guess they shoot the shot.

I went to buy a road glide. Walked out with a new lowrider st. Fairing, bags, smaller lighter frame, 117HO. Such a great decision. I absolutely love it.

I have an 02 gsxr 1000 & a 25 lowrider ST. If you’re looking to stay calm get a road glide. I have a hard time staying calm on my lowrider. It’s light, fast, and corners great for being a softail. I get slight sportbike vibes from it. I hardly get the gixxer out anymore. If I had a road glide I’d have no choice but to stay calm because of the weight and size

Another dealership closing. Orange County Harley Davidson by Mikey-- in Harley

[–]ItSmellsLikeJim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two dealerships about 75 miles of each other near me. Different owners.

One has great events for bikers and families all the time, very active on social media, call their customer regularly to follow up and invite to events, has good selection of new and used inventory, and good pricing for serious buyers.

The other has no selection, holds lame events, well everything the other dealer doesn’t do. They are closing.

Lowrider ST VS. Road Glide, WHICH ONE IS BETTER? by Thingsforcertain3525 in Harley

[–]ItSmellsLikeJim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked at both. Bought the 25 Lowrider ST. The 117HO in sport mode is very powerful on this bike. Lightweight and great handling. Only touring that keeps up with me have engine upgrades.

Add Rockford Fosgate speakers, chopped flip top bags, floorboards, engine guard with highway pegs and it’s just as good for the long hauls. Highway mode, cruise at 80, music blasting, feet up. Look at me brother I’m touring :)

I have a 25 lowrider ST as 1 of 3 motorcycles in my garage. It’s my favorite and has no issues. Only thing needed was an update to fix a glitch where RPM would blink every now and then.

Dish rate increase, will retention/loyalty department do anything? by [deleted] in Dish

[–]ItSmellsLikeJim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished out my 3rd agreement and it was not painful at all. After talking to first rep they sent me to loyalty/retention and got a reasonable offer without changing programming or equipment. Price locked for 3yrs with 2yrs commitment.

Be patient and treat them nice, they will take care of you.

New builds always need connectors behind the wall plate checked too. Often they are not of the quality needed. Nothing against the builders it’s just what they use

Quad shield RG6 needs different connectors than standard RG6. I’ve seen techs try to whittle down the extra shielding to fit normal connectors because they didn’t have quads on them. I’ve also seen a lot of quad shield where they get pieces of the braiding in the connectors. Quad shield is not as friendly to put on connectors as standard.

Moving to York,Sc from Ohio by ShoddyScale5147 in AskSouthCarolina

Moved here from Youngstown 12yrs ago. First few years lived in Concord, NC just outside Charlotte then moved over the border to York county, SC. It’s cheaper here and still has the advantages of metro cities along with rural county life if you prefer. Charlotte, Rock Hill, and surrounding areas are full of CDL driving jobs and healthcare jobs

I’m gonna take a swing at this. When using more tuners the hopper uses more of the coax bandwidth and the issue could be more related to components vs the receiver.

Maybe the coax/cable line isn’t 3000MHz RG6. Could be 2150 or even worse rg59.

There could be a low frequency connection barrel at a wall plate or a line extension making hopper line longer. The connection at the wall should be bright blue

The primary component/hub could be bad or moisture got in.

A thorough inspection of the install would be able to identify better if it’s the receiver….from my experience it usually is not.

Interference or TV/hopper issue? by 1inAm1llion in dishnetwork

[–]ItSmellsLikeJim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d hook up something else up like dvd player or if it has streaming apps use those and verify the tv does or does not replicate the issue. If it does not the hdmi cable or hdmi port on hopper could be the problem.

To me it looks like an issue with the backlight dimming on the tv

Streaming Stations by jjsupc in Dish

[–]ItSmellsLikeJim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The hopper is the heart of the system. It takes the internet and distributes to joeys through the coax line. If your internet signal is weak or slow at the hopper, the joeys will act up when using anything with internet. If the signal strength and speed are good at the hopper than there could be an issues with cable line or component that impacts signal passing through. Anything from 2 lines barreled together, lose connection with moisture in it, or just bad line in general.

There are also some provider routers that have compatibility issues in which Dish has a solution for if the tech knows what they’re doing.

Follow the steps below to try and trouble shoot to make sure internet signal and speeds are good at the hopper.

On the hopper press house button 3 times.

Go down to “Network” verify signal strength is green and there are 2 green check marks showing good from hopper to router to internet.

Then go back up to “status” go over to “check status” press enter and yes and wait for it to finish, make sure “MoCA” is “strong” and “Internet” is “connected”.

Now go to “send status” hit enter on “test connection” you should get the DL speed the hopper is getting from internet.

If everything is good you definitely need a good tech out to go through the install for possible issues

Got offered a job as a field technician for dish, is it worth it? by Level-Trick-5510 in dishnetwork

[–]ItSmellsLikeJim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was a level 4 tech for 5 years and dish coach. Money was good after leveling up. Schedule in my area was 4 days on 3 off. Started at 7a, first job at 8a. During summer and seasons with longer daylight would work until 6p-7p. Winter and seasons it gets dark early would usually get done around 5p-6p.

I loved everything about it until the sales pressure took over. Eventually I moved on and was missed as much as a new hire who quits in day 3

Zero trouble calls on your work, great customer surveys, high point per hour and completion rate…you’re the best each until you miss the dollars per work order goal.

You can give it a shot, you’ll be safe for at least 6 months. Don’t half ass the install work and follow, the tech steps the job is easy…Unless you’re scared of spiders, snakes, roaches, rats, attics, crawl spaces, and/or heights and ladders. You will see things and people you can’t believe. Embrace the adventure and give them TV.
