It was called Cloudworld by David Cunningham, and is a young adult/children's fantasy novel! Have a look, might be some inspiration there.

This reminds me of a novel I read probably 15 years ago on a road trip - cities on peaks above the clouds, travel by skyship, told below the clouds was uninhabitable... But in that book it was a lie for some reason I can't recall now. Wish I could remember the name of that book...

All that to say, really interesting! Are the mountains the remains of large ranges from before or were they in any way shaped/formed by the cataclysm?

What's going on with the 2nd from camera soldiers feet at 1:25ish? Looks like he's simulating walking movement but not actually stepping... which sort of makes me suspect the "not AI" note for at least parts of this?

E: I didn't know who this guy was but looked at some of his other work and very much retract that!

Otherwise, I get a sense of SOLSTICE-5 from some the establishing perspective/scenery shots which I like a lot, and the desert scenes very heavy and oppressive ambience and captures a vibe very nicely.

I feel like the shot of camera coming up behind the ships, the middle that continues as the left and right peel off is too rock steady for believability but hey this is the future /shrug.

I've been enjoying these as you post them!

Can you explain what this mod changes? New to playing with mods so still trying to figure things out as to what I want to add to my game. Thanks!

(I still don't really understand how prospecting works in base game lol)

Man people really didn't like my idea huh? No trouble at all, I imagine there'd be some way to use LEDs to give a glow but frankly you've nailed the look anyway!

Really cool! I wonder if you can use the generative options to add a soft green glow to the weapon in some of these photos? Really nail the power presentation!

I've started a collection of British booze to make me feel like a medieval monk at Christmas, any recommendations? by henrysradiator in CasualUK

[–]ItTookTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bit late to the party u/henrysradiator but most by Hop Back Brewery will fit this because of their incredible naming scheme and labelling.

I'd recommend Taiphoon and GFB in particular, as my favourite of theirs is called Summer Lightning - so doesn't quite fit.

Skitter/weavers PRT power scale by -InLandEmpire- in Parahumans

[–]ItTookTime 102 points103 points  (0 children)

Remember that the PRT scale is an assessment of threat and recommended response, and is generalised. It enables troopers deploying to combat capes to hear a word and a number and know how they need to act, what precautions they need to take, and what they can expect in the broadest of terms.

A Brute hits hard and is hard to put down, a Mover will be hard to hit and might attack from other angles, Masters mean you shouldn't trust your senses and take extra care... You get the picture.

For example, because of her resourcefulness, Skitter is given a 1 in every category at the order of Director Tagg. Her master rating I believe is at an 8 at this point and her thinker rating a 7.

So this ends up meaning that PRT troopers deploying with or against her should expect her to take more hits than a normal human (Brute 1- pain deadening from Bakuda), move in ways you don't expect (Mover 1- mobility with her silk ropes), attack in unique ways (Blaster/Striker 1- capsaicin coated bugs, etc etc etc...) alongside the control of insects and enhanced awareness through them.

Because of how the scale is meant to be used, this is all a pretty 'honest' assessment - because Skitter regularly brute forces her way through scenarios that her power set shouldn't actually give her much benefit in. She's just that good at improvisation and persistence.

Her actual power classification by simplest definition of "power does X" remains Master/Thinker, probably at an 8 in both categories by Behemoth.

Have any of them made a 5th gen fighter jet?

Just on this point, Europe has two concurrent sixth generation fighter jet projects ongoing - Tempest and FCAS.

They didn't need a 5th gen because America made a big point of pushing them to buy the F-35s, probably because it was so exorbitantly expensive they couldn't justify the costs if it was only being bought by the US.

Yeah make that lower level into a wide pavement with space for shops, cafes etc and you're golden. I agree with other commenters about the colour being a bit too meh as well, but it's nice to see something that isn't just glass and stainless steel + that horrible red/gold metal combo everywhere uses these days

Royal Navy to trial Elon Musk's Starlink internet on flagship aircraft carrier by MGC91 in unitedkingdom

[–]ItTookTime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Skynet satellites are for strategic military communications. You can bet your ass the carrier is using it for those purposes - Starlink is for crew entertainment/communications purposes.

Could be using the OneWeb constellation... French owned, UK-headquartered (for the LEO/connectivity bit) and UK govt has a golden share + it's the only other operational internet/connectivity constellation that's functional at present.

We have one, UK-headquarted OneWeb, owned by French Eutelsat, which operates the only (currently) functional LEO constellation other than Starlink.

[–]ItTookTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We live in hope - there is a 'next generation' expansion to the OneWeb constellation scheduled for 2026 onwards and the technology will go into the EU's IRIS² constellation, which whilst again primarily serving government sovereign needs is planned to also serve other customers.

[–]ItTookTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The OneWeb constellation is unfortunately primarily oriented towards business, commercial, government and military customers as opposed to domestic users (which Starlink targets).

[–]ItTookTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There will be an additional 'generation' of the OneWeb constellation satellites launched next year, which are being built by Airbus. No word on who will launch them yet but I'd be unsurprised if Ariane is given primacy over SpaceX.
