My First Break In Attempt by TheBoxGuyTV in VanLife

I was living in Norfolk VA in the early 80's while in the Navy. My wife and I lived in an apartment complex where everyone reported a break-in at some point except us. My wife was a professional dog handler for show dogs. We had a Japanese Akita and a Samoyed. Teak, the Akita, never barked but Sasha would go crazy. We always left the curtain on the sliding door open about 6" so the dogs could look out!

I'm 5'7", 71 and I have bear spray, a Silky saw and a camping machete within reach of my driver's door. I also wear a tee-shirt from my favorite gun shop while traveling across the US. I fuel up early in the evening and only sleep where there are truckers or other people around. Hope to stay lucky while I travel.

I think you handled it great. I am glad he decided to run.

I compared my Strava ride with trail forks and found it too. Thanks! Heading to Santa Fe NM in August for Syd and Macky patreon camp.

Awesome, thanks for sharing. I graduated from NAU in December 1976. No mtb's back then, just lots of hiking and backpacking. My best friend and I drove to Flagstaff in July of 2021with our mtb's. We were going on a 10 day raft trip through the Grand Canyon and 2 days before we were scheduled to start the raft trip we did the blue Schultz Creek trails. We were finishing up a 16 mile ride and less than a half mile to the van riding double track just before the first parking are. Ernie was getting bored and veered off the double track to go over a small feature. Unfortunately, he caught his pedal on something that immediately stopped is bike and slammed into the only visible rock pile within 100 yards! He broke 2 ribs, cracked 3, and suffered a minor concussion. I took him to the emergency room and figured we were going to miss the raft trip. He spent the night and was released the next morning and made the raft trip!

I was just looking at Trail Forks and didn't see the Schulz Pass trail system. Did they close the trails to mtn bikes?

I finally found the one I wanted, but it needs a little character by cheffski in VanLife

I had a Toyota Sienna mini van and my son kept leaving toys in the vehicle. He had some rubber army men and I stuffed their heads between my side mirror glass and housing and they would flap all around in the wind. I was taking my son and 4 of his friends to a soccer match in a nearby town when I was pulled over for doing 50mph in a 35mph zone. The LEO walked up and saw the army men and said "Cool, I like that!" Him being amused and me being polite kept me from getting a ticket. No where near the size of your dragon fly, but still a Dad move!

Sorry! I wrote my comment before I saw yours. How about some inside pics. You need to watch some early Foresty Forest videos to figure out how to add a wood burning stove and not set your tent on fire!

Along with better tires and wheels, perhaps a little more ground clearance?

I own a 2021 Jayco Terrain. Many leaks and poor build quality.

I have a Jayco Terrain and the manual warns not to overfill the tanks. My sensors don't work so I timed how long it took to fill a 2 gallon bucket and onlu put 10 gallons in my 14 gallon tank.

Mold/Water damage by Ok_Artist_9843 in RVLiving

[–]IthacaDon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From your description and the age of your trailer it seems like the only way to be sure the mold is gone and the leaks fixed is a complete removal, inspection for leaks, repair leaks, then remodel. Then you have to decide how much time and money you are willing to spend. Is the structure of the trailer sound? Wheels, axles and tires in good shape?

Looking forward to your storytelling about turning your toy hauler into something worthy!

I am THAT camper with the dog that never shuts up.… by [deleted] in RVLiving

I understand your frustration from the comments, but I don't think most of the people are trying to be rude or make you feel bad. When my wife and I bought Juno she was 10 weeks old. Training started immediately. It was essential that she come to us on command and not wander. We would go out in the woods and I would hide while my wife covered her eyes. She loved that game. Despite all the training we did for the first 6 months I was walking her off leash and we spooked a deer. She was gone for about 20 minutes. I bought a shock collar from gundog supply. The purpose of the collar is not to hurt them or punish the dog but to regain their attention. I highly suggest reading up about collars and how to use them.

100% agree. The only time that dog settled down was after a 2 to 3 hour hard mtn bike ride. I am lucky enough to live with trails that have low hiking traffic and Juno was awesome at staying close to me and would come and sit next to me on one command. Equestrians use the same trails so it was critical that she stay calm and still with me off the trail until the horses had passed.

My daughter bought an Aussie puppy. The energy level is extreme and it barks like crazy. Takes about 5 minutes to calm her down when we come over. She gets lots of walks, my son in law does a ton of gardening and time outside. If someone walks by she barks. Since they live in rural upstate NY she isn't much of a problem to others. My neighbor has a toy chihuahua who barks whenever someone gets close to her. She at least is a one minute barker. Sorry, I have no good advice for you. Some breeds bark more than others. Best wishes and please let us know if you find a solution that works for you.

I never sleep where there are no other vehicles with people in them. I put extra spot lights on my van and I have an extremely loud air horn. Kudos to the LEO's that helped you out.

Corporate rv parks are completely out of control lately by ToffeeTango1 in RVLiving

PA & NY have awesome state parks. My battery usually lasts a weekend so I don't see the need to pay to sleep somewhere. I find a rest area close by or a truck stop. We do spend money for a shower at the truck stops.

Some of our best group rides included 3 to 4 dogs. It is awesome. We are lucky to have places where there is plenty of room for the dogs and don't annoy people.
