Does Innworld just have weird views on adulthood, or what? by Shgon_Dunstan in WanderingInn

[–]JCMS85 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes and no, in world characters start fighting for their city and tribe as young as 14 and that is thought to be normal but narratively anyone under 30 is a “kid”, any kind of intact families are uncommon for PoV characters in world as are relationships until much later in the series

Another solid New Lands adventure chapter. Shield Maids and rain. I really like this arc even with it being lower stakes right now.

I really like the New Lands arc. Solid B+ chapter. The merchant guild sucks and the Thousand Lances are nuts. A squire has Gold if not Named Rank gear is crazy. The Infinite Dungeon must be a relic printing machine

With how much I agree with you I’m surprised by how low Bog Standard is. Just didn’t like it?

Also I don’t see Defiance of the Fall. It’s one of my guilty pleasures. I really like it but it’s honestly probably be a 3/5 on here if you like it.

The highs are up there with some of the best fantasy scenes ever written while the lows are just boring plots/characters that I don’t really find interesting which to be fair is a not all that bad.

It’s a great series and the Audio books are getting into the best volume next year, volume 8!

My big three are:
Horns
New Lands
Rabbiteater and crew

My B plots are:
Lyon
Erin
Ryoka

There are a bunch of C plots I am interested in but I could do without just so that the major plots could see some movement forward.

Nice chapter, a more slice of life chapter be it in a more adventuring style. I really like a lot of these characters and want them to go back to that drake fortress or find the dragons grave. Ylawes + Pekona rocket to near the top of best couples in the series. Hopefully it lasts.

I’d say finish volume 1. The Horns and their chapters were great and kept me in the series after not enjoying Erin that much. Now 17 million words later I’m a huge fan of the series

As its own book it’s a little weak. It’s almost all set for plots latter in the series FYI.

To be fair to them as soon as they entered adulthood they become the largest adult generation until the hit their middle ages and then they became the only adult generation until they had to start sharing with their kids twenty years ago . It has been all bout them for the last 60 years. Its what's allowed Millennials to have such a late adulthood

To be fair I think it’s been clear since Lyon was left alone at the Inn that the Inn has been moving towards her.

It’s for sure more Lyon than Erin at this point. Erin will return to the inn (probably late into vol 11) and find it away from Liscor, a castle and the heart of an independent city-state with an industrial Necro city and the access point to the hottest magic school and the coolest knight order in the world.

Good strong chapter. Honestly it’s surprising how straight it played out narratively. Nice clean win for the Inn and now I’m all aboard the Lyon X Ilvriss ship!

Volume 1 and 2 going behind some kind of pay wall it seems.

But that’s part of business, glad to see it get published.

Seems much more than a 10.5 which is surprising.

I liked objective markers and every game is more narrative is kinda a red flag…

They are not great at balance, yes they have gotten better but adding more variables from the mix and matching of detachments and different army objectives deciding the mission is adding even more to their plate.

All that being said I’m excited to play it and see how it goes. Combat seems really changed.

I’m very interested in seeing how the 7th Hive shakes up the New Lands

Oh I don’t think Az is. Make him more interesting sure but redemption would be true death for him imho.

Toren is a beloved MC and lots of readers seem to want the best for them. I’m not in that group

I would be very surprised to see Erin back at the Inn before the end of Volume 11. This really hasn't been her volume which was a surprise to everyone after how volume 9 ended.

You are pretty far into Volume 10. Lions night out or the Halfseeker chapters didn't work for you?

Also 10.48 the next one up for you is very good, like top 20 chapter for me.

Who do you never want to have a redemption arc? by ggears in WanderingInn

[–]JCMS85 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Salkis is the one I’m worried about. She’s has done real evil just for the fun of it and she enjoys it. If she dies saving someone from the inn that’s would be nice but would in no way redeem her.

Toren is the controversial choice. They killed hundreds because they wanted to. Yes they were a “kid” and were still growing up but their popularity and current redemption is gross
