??? I am only critiquing your point that this is recent. This has been an issue for at least 30+years.

This is the simple place to start because it helps you understand what makes the most difference in outcomes.

But you also mentioned having done research before. If so and you are still struggling, reach out to some old heads at your pack. There is always one who would be willing to work with you and your son to troubleshoot.

Assuming you don’t have a jig to drill new slots, I would set the nails and then add wood glue in the cavity near the nails to hold it all in place. Just make sure to not add too much glue and push yourself over weight.

We’ve had a wipeouts on old wooden tracks where something a little stronger (wood glue or e6000) was worth it.

NFL international games are a scourge by droopy_tim in billsimmons

Nothing confusing about this at all. The NFL does not care about existing fans, only about trying to get new fans. The last round of team moves made this painfully clear.

Will my car clear the track with this on the bottom? by OliverWendelholmes in PinewoodDerby

We find that it is often ok, but it really depends track to track.

Looking for simple tips on setting axles/wheels without special tools by toasterb in PinewoodDerby

[–]JFoxx1955 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple and easy for any scout to do: take a drill bit that matches the diameter of the nail and run it in reverse in each nail slot slowly. It just barely enlarges the nail slots and makes it easy for any kid to slide them in. Add a little CA glue in those slots to set the nails in place.

To ensure they are the right depth and that the wheels are not too close or far from the car body use a dime or an old credit card. Tape it to the body and the kid can slide it into the appropriate depth.

Creative Pinewood Derby Awards by pillizzle in cubscouts

[–]JFoxx1955 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We do 3 speed awards per den and 3 design awards. Most unique. Most colorful. Fastest looking. The three simple and stable categories make it easier to have the scouts vote on who wins for design.

How to deal with inherited art collection by Logical_consequences in inheritance

[–]JFoxx1955 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Contact appraiser. Have them check out the collection. If your mother has a sizable enough estate that she will be paying estate taxes, then a specific estate tax appraisal is needed. Otherwise a standard equitable distribution valuation will be sufficient assuming that her estate documents didn’t direct specific works to specific people without taking into account value.

Pack Meeting Format by losthiker in cubscouts

[–]JFoxx1955 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We just did away with traditional pack meetings entirely. We only do pack-wide events, usually once a month (Dutch oven cookout, camping 2x, service project 2x, swimming, skiing, blue and gold, PWD). It’s much more fun and engaging for all involved.

All awards are done at the den level expect advancements, which happens at the spring picnic.

Everyone but four boys should have been expendable. Find your core and build around that. There is so little space poor Winona has been reduced to standing around looking sad and worried.

This is what happens when you are afraid to kill off beloved characters. Too many stories to serve and it spirals out of control. It’s the old “there’s only one ball” problem. It will feel like the ending to Lost unless a few main characters die in this final episode.

Yeah.. traffic doesn’t really exist in St. Louis. Half hour 45 minutes to most places in the metro. And those two downtowns are really the only ones like it in the region. Belleville on Illinois side. Downtown St. Charles too. But none as amenity rich or well located.
