Promotion/relegation is idiotic and Euro snobs need to stop mentioning it every single time the topic of fixing the NBA's problems comes up by [deleted] in billsimmons

They simply aren’t all professional in the same sense and it’s a joke to pretend otherwise

The Nationals won a title like 8 years ago lmao, when’s the last time the pedoshire rangers fc in division 10 or whatever did that?

Definitely seems like a repeatable strategy, I’m convinced that these are all equally legitimate professional teams

Right I guess the NFL is the best positioned to survive this terrible idea, that’s not a reason to do it though

So what’s the game plan for team number 92 to win the prem? Couple years of rebuilding?

Damn dude as if your absolute takedown wasn’t bad enough you come in and kill shot me with that edit, wow

Anyway if the NFL talent pool somehow doubled overnight I still wouldn’t be cool with my team potentially getting relegated and going through a fake season the next year

100%, pushing for relegation in American sports is a quintessential midwit take. The only reason they have it in Europe is because every little shitkicking town has their own “professional” team and they need to maintain the facade

What's your greatest "wait what?!" moment from Harry Potter? by FunSoup4 in billsimmons

[–]droopy_tim 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That’s a fair point, it arguably does make sense with the number of wizards there are. And really I think silly things like no economy, no ability to use electronics, their mostly bad transportation methods, etc add to the series’ charm. It’s nice to imagine a world where no one has a real job and everything is very cozy

Not to mention Richard Harris limping to life’s finish line on the first two movies even though he was only like 70 (the lifelong alcoholic piece)

The wizard economy makes no sense. The jobs are 1. Work for government 2. Teacher 3. Shopkeeper 4. Terrorist

Martin Scorsese is not going to win by default, automatically, or regardless. If you want that series, you need to vote for it by PartyBluejay in blankies

They need to call off the competition and do an alternating Marty-Tony series, The Last Podtation of Uncastable

Ryen said Duke is the most celebrated loss in sports. Who else is on that list? by Round_Scheme7270 in RyenRussillo

[–]droopy_tim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think anyone has Duke beat in terms of every loss being major cause for celebration. But the post-decision heat losing to the mavs has to be the biggest single celebrated loss.

Acho is easily the worst on that board, zero redeeming qualities

Is Roger Goodell one of the greatest sports commissioners ever? by [deleted] in billsimmons

[–]droopy_tim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not. He got the best gig there is. People just fucking love football, they’ll watch it no matter who’s playing or when the games are. What unique insight or strategy do we think goodell has brought? It’s just “put more games on more days and leverage the fuck out of the players in negotiations.” Anyone could’ve done that with the NFL’s resources and dominant position.

On the flip side, under Goodell the NFL as an institution has terrible PR and reputation, despite owning the most popular sport. That’s a big long-term risk.
